Haymarket by Scandic is a brand new hotel located in the old PUB building on Hötorget in Stockholm. Last Friday, we, along with a bunch of other travel bloggers, were invited to breakfast here, and we have to say that we were really sold on the cool 20s atmosphere.
Nice 20s atmosphere
Upon entering the entrance of the Haymarket, there is no reception desk. Instead, you can hang out in the film-inspired lobby and choose whether to visit one of the three restaurants: Greta's (healthy and eco-conscious café), Americain (cocktail bar) or Paul's (American brasserie).
The theme is well thought out and it's decadent and sophisticated 20s. Staff wear vests or suspenders, the bar plays soft jazz and Greta Garbo (who was working in a hat bar here when she was discovered) has inspired the hotel's film theme.
Consistent food theme
The three restaurants at Haymarket by Scandic serve different foods, but there is a common thread. It has been inspired by the health trends of the American upper class in the 20th century, with a strong focus on vegetarian options.
There are also influences from 20th century European cooking and from what was exotic and trendy at the time, like the Caribbean and the extremely expensive pineapple, for example. And then some environmental awareness, some chefs from famous restaurants and some decadence on top of that....
Stay at the hotel?
If you want to stay at the hotel, there are 405 rooms, ranging from smaller rooms to the large suite, with a roof terrace of 97 square metres. We got to check out one of the "regular" rooms and it was not overly luxurious, but with a pretty cool style.
If you're a guest at the hotel, you also get access to a very special service where you can ask for help with more or less impossible things, like getting a table in fully booked restaurants or getting ahead of the queue at popular clubs - and they'll do it!
We are not planning any hotel accommodation in Stockholm, but I am keen to try the lunch one day, which should cost around 145 SEK. Have you visited Haymarket and what did you think?

No, I haven't been to Stockholm for a couple of years. The last time I was there, PUB was still PUB.
However, I have stayed a few times in the hotel that was there on the upper floors of the PUB building, which was then Rica. Most often, however, we stayed at the Rica that was located on Slöjdgatan. Is probably fairly completely renovated now I would guess, although I had nothing at all to complain about then when it was Rica. Especially not the location 😀

Great concept and fun to be invited!
I've been following the construction for a while, but will have to pay a visit there when I get home. The design certainly seemed appealing.
There are more new hotels in Stockholm now and it feels good to have both variety and choice.

Inga, oh what a cool place! They have gone further than Heymarket, I must say 😉.
Ditte, you've got it! I don't really understand how we have missed the building... 😉.

It is becoming increasingly rare for us to stay in hotels in Stockholm. We always get a room and breakfast at our daughter's house in Enskede. It looked delicious to say the least.

I have read a lot about Scandic Haymarket in various local newspapers in the city. The hotel has attracted a lot of attention so far. Always fun with something new that is actually old if you say so. Will definitely look in there on occasion - perfect blog fodder;-)

We often stay in hotels in Stockholm when we visit our family. Our favourite, Sergel Plaza, is closed for renovation so this Haymarket might be an alternative. It is also centrally located and we want that.
