Camping in Zagreb! When we left Istria, we drove back to the capital of Croatia and stayed at Camp Zagreb. If this campsite was ordinary and boring, it wouldn't get its own post, but this campsite is super modern and very well located. Join us for camping in Zagreb!
Table of contents
A modern and fresh campsite in Zagreb
Camp Zagreb may look simple at first glance, with pitches on gravel in a circle and a number of different wooden houses, but everything is new and modern. ultramodern. I don't have a picture of the toilets, but if you imagine glossy black walls and toilet doors with decorated glass panels, you're pretty close.
Wellness and "salt room"
One of the houses has a wellness centre with massage, jacuzzi, Finnish sauna and "salt room" (which, according to the website, is supposed to help with just about everything, including fatigue, stress, insomnia, colds, skin diseases and asthma...). You can also cycle, kayak, fish or go horse riding around the lake. There is of course WiFi throughout the site and a restaurant overlooking the water.
Camping in Zagreb - with lakeside restaurant
Camping restaurants are not always exciting, but this one proved popular. I don't know if it was the food (pizza and other light meals) or the relaxed lakeside location, but people came from all over to hang out in the two different outdoor seating areas or on the terrace.
A beautiful moon reflected in the lake, some music and a warm evening - not bad at all. We ordered pork tenderloin and got a sort of stew with lots of vegetables, crème fraiche and cheese (not too bad, but very filling).
Visiting Zagreb
When you visit this fine campsite in Zagreb, you will of course also want to take the opportunity to discover the capital. Zagreb is a cosy and interesting city. Here you can stroll along the Tkalcic promenade, check out the large cathedral, eat good food in the restaurants or hang out in the city's parks.
To get into Zagreb, you can choose between shuttle bus + train (20 min), taxi (25 min), private car (25 min) or bike (1 hour).

It actually starts to suck in the camping nerve. Too bad (or maybe lucky? 😉 ) that we have thrown away the tent 😀.

Åsa says:
Seems cosy! Especially the salt room and ride, but also the restaurant. Zagreb. I had an adventure there during the war, at the casino among other things, but it's time-barred now.

Lennart, a very nice campsite we thought!
Ama de casa, camping cabin...? 😉

Mr Frank Olsen says:
This does look inviting, but also quite expensive.
From what I have seen of prices in Croatia, it looks generally expensive, often over 30 € for an overnight stay. With our budget for the long trip, we can't afford many such nights 🙁 How is your perception of prices in Croatia compared to the rest of Europe?
25 May 2016 - 9:51
admin says:
Anette, "only 40 miles" haha... Yes, Zagreb is definitely worth a stop! Both report on Zagreb and on the plate will come!
Znogge, there may still be some low points, but I don't think we are often dissatisfied. In that case, it may be that it is too expensive or perhaps the location is wrong or something like that.
Geddfish, yep, tomorrow it will be city pictures! 🙂
Frank Olsen, we camped in Croatia for two months last autumn and never paid as much as 30 euros (with the exception of Dubrovnik!) If you come in the low season (i.e. not July-August), our advice is to use an ACSI card. Then all ACSI-affiliated campsites cost between 15 and 19 euros per night including electricity.

Anna, New York - My Bite of the Big Apple says:
Fantastic with such super modern camping! I smiled a bit when you described the toilets because I have the opposite experience from Zagreb. I travelled by train through (then) Yugoslavia a long time ago and the toilets were a joke. At the railway station there was a several cm (!) high water level over the toilet floor, where the toilet otherwise consisted only of a hole. Guess some things have changed since then. 🙂

Ditte says:
If there is such comfort, many activities and the location is good by a lake, you can cope with gravel in the places where you stand.
It's also good to be reasonably close to Zagreb and all its amenities.
Welcome home! And I look forward to reading more about your journey.
Understand that you had a great time. Nice to also possibly read more about the advantages and possible. disadvantages of the "plate" you rented.

Anna, haha, interesting to hear! Yes, there is probably a lot that has changed since then! 😉
Ottar, there will of course be a report on the plough! Probably the day after tomorrow.
Ditte, we liked this campsite! And yep, we will of course report on our experiences with the site! 😉

I think you haven't shown a single ordinary and boring campsite during this trip. On the contrary, the campsites in Croatia seem to be incredibly large, well-maintained and luxurious.
Can't wait to read about Zagreb!
By the way, I like today's picture of the sheet metal. The reflection of the bench and the two people in the bonnet is absolutely superb:-)

Lena in Wales, so you have been in Falsterbo and Skanör? Was very busy yesterday, but will check out your blog today 😉.
BP, many of the campsites in Istria are really big! Then again, some are more special and others more "ordinary" perhaps. However, I must admit that the motorhome is decorated like that... 😉.
Imelda, how nice that we can show you something new from Croatia! 🙂
Matts, agree that the nature around Zagreb is beautiful!
