Solta - a beautiful island! Based in Split, Croatia, there are many opportunities for great excursions. We went on a boat trip on the Adriatic Sea to the island of Solta and to the Unesco city of Trogir. On the island of Solta we experienced lively Croatian folk dancing in the harbour.
Trogir, located about 25 km north of Split in Croatia, offered a wonderful atmosphere with fishermen, boats, market in the harbour, cathedral and ring wall. Join us in Solta and Trogir!
Croatian folk dance on Solta Island
The boat trip from Split to Solta with the boat Kleopatra had been great in the sunshine, but was pleasant even in the rough weather. The island of Solta has about 1500 inhabitants and in comparison to the neighbouring islands has had a modest tourism. Therefore, large parts of the island are unexploited and it was a little extra fun to come here!
As soon as the boat docked in the harbour, we were treated to a demonstration of Croatian folk dance. The rhythms were slightly exotic, but otherwise we almost laughed at the similarities with Swedish folk dance. When the women in the dance raised their fingers at the men, it felt a bit like Swedish midsummer ...
At the hotel Martinis Marchi we got a tour and a "light lunch" (really wonder what the Croatians mean by a "hearty lunch" haha). The building was originally built in the 18th century and when the new owner has renovated, they have kept old details and decorated with antique and heavy furniture that gives the place a cool atmosphere!
To Trogir by boat
We have visited the beautiful city of Trogir beforebut were curious to arrive in the city from the sea side and take nice pictures from that view. Of course, we were a bit disappointed when it started to rain, but we just had to put up our umbrellas ...
Trogir is a wonderfully charming town with narrow alleys and old houses, surrounded by a wall on a small island. There are plenty of reminders of Venetian rule and a magnificent cathedral.
For our part, we were stunned to see the staircase that Peter photographed when we were here last autumn, and which he recently posted on Instagram. The staircase was the same!

What a cool picture of the stairs! The umbrella (in the nice colour) was really the icing on the cake. So actually you were quite lucky that it rained, otherwise it would not have been there. Thinking positive is never wrong 😉
How well taken care of you were! 🙂

Åsa, haha, yes, right? 😉
Ama de casa, yes the umbrella was a fun pop of colour so I agree, it's important to see the positive! 🙂

I'm curious what the "light" lunch consisted of.
When we were on a boat excursion to the Kornati Islands, the "light" breakfast consisted of raki and cakes 🙂 ).

Anonymous, haha raki and cakes, it reminds me a bit of Albania and Macedonia where we were served raki from time to time 😉 The "light" lunch was a big buffet with meat, root vegetables, fish stew, squid ink pasta, risotto, ham, cheeses and pastries etc 😉 .

What a cool sight to see the stairs again. I remember the picture from your previous trip. and it's super nice. And with the orange umbrella...extra nice!
The weather cannot be directly influenced, but both Trogir and Solta seemed to be nice acquaintances and a boat trip is always nice.
I can imagine that there were many experiences this weekend and that you had fun.

What nice pictures from your trip. Oh so much fun that you recognised "your" staircase. Love the composition with the umbrella.
However, I am not fond of Croatian folk dancing, which is similar to the Swedish version, which I don't like either;-) But it is clear that Croatians want to show their traditions to guests. We do that too.

Anette, very nice despite some rain! 😉
Anonymous, glad you like the pictures!
BP, glad you like the picture with the umbrella! 🙂 Haha, why don't you like the folk dance then...? I'm not super interested in folk dance in any way myself, but a show like this I thought was a bit fun!
Steel city Anna, it was a very nice trip, albeit short 😉.
Matts, yes, Trogir is a cosy town!
