Changing your mobile phone - how complicated can it be?

You may remember that I dropped my mobile phone in the toilet some time ago? I was very happy that it survived, but apparently it just had a few extra months of life. A few days ago the phone died completely. And when I got a new one, all the unlikely problems with verification codes started ...

New iPhone - but no Apple ID

Fortunately, I was able to take over Peter's son Robin's old iPhone 5. All good? Well... The problems started when I tried to log in to the new phone with my Apple ID. Not only did I need an email address and password, but suddenly I needed a 6-digit code - which was sent to my dead mobile phone!

I called support and they tried to help me reset everything. Do you think it worked? No, because I had to confirm my identity with my bank card, which I had already replaced, it was not possible ...

New Apple ID - but no iCloud

Now there was only one solution according to the support team: get a new Apple ID. Not much fun, as you'd have to throw away all the old apps, but there wasn't much choice. I got a new one and logged in to the appstore with it.

But what about iCloud? I called the support team again and was told that I need to have the mobile phone's original receipt to get authorisation to log out of iCloud and switch to a new Apple ID. So, really?

New apps - but can't log in to accounting software

I now have a working mobile phone (without iCloud) and have re-downloaded all the apps. But I still can't write any invoices. The accounting programme's verification app (which I had to re-download) requires some kind of password to get started. Will it never end ...?

Verification and security are all well and good, but surely you should be able to change your phone? And when you do, must should you buy a new one? I'm very happy with my inherited iPhone 5, and I'm glad it's being used ...
