What a summer day we had on Sunday! The thermometer showed 28 degrees and the temperature did not drop even though it was evening. We spent a lot of time on deck, of course, and there are always lots of interesting things to look at. Today we present a selection of boats, birds and ... a strange airplane.
Full of boats
All weekend the water has been full of boats: yachts, sailboats, motorboats, canoes, jet skis... you name it! Our houseboat is located in Pampas marina in Solna and we look out over Lake Ulvsunda. On the other side is Hornsberg beach (Kungsholmen) and it's lively to say the least on these warm days.
People are sunbathing, swimming, picnicking and walking along the entire beach strip and the music and buzz is so loud that it reaches our side. The boats go back and forth and occasionally into our marina. There is always something to look at, so to speak.
Full of birds
There are not only boats and people out on these summer days, but also birds. In the marina we often see swans and we also have a heron that visits us from time to time (I will show pictures tomorrow). But above all we are visited by ducks.
Usually the ducks are seen in the water, but our "city ducks" are quite tame. They lay eggs in the flower pots at the entrances of the aquavillas and on Midsummer's Eve we had one on deck begging for food. She got fresh potatoes, but after a few bites she wanted something else ... kind of picky? The picture shows a duck that is tired of hanging out in the pool and wants to check out the view.
... and full of aeroplanes.
You must not forget to look upwards either! There are a lot of aeroplanes coming down at Bromma airport. This weekend there have also been some helicopters circling and the other day we saw some hot air balloons. The most odd aircraft we saw yesterday! I apologise for the image quality ... but does anyone know what this is????

Hi, there. How nice that you have found me, so I found you. There were many nice pictures here. Love photography. It was a funny craft..hihi.
I had a very good midsummer and now I'm back at work, very satisfied and happy.
Have a good start to the week.
Hug Petra

Mr Steve says:
One of those summer days you long for.
That strange aircraft looks like a snowmobile on pontoons to me. Not something I would willingly travel in.

What a strange craft. Never seen it before. Exciting!

Matts Torebring says:
Another fun post and the best picture I've seen of your boat, It really looks "Pampig". The right boat in the right place! I have not googled and checked out where Pampas Marina is located. I remember from the early 70's that I drove Ulfsundavägen many, many times, I have a good friend who also has an "airborne motorbike", but like you, I have only seen it in the sky. Have a good time and enjoy!

A sandwich bar like the one in the last picture would be useful when there are traffic jams on the roads. At least when there are traffic jams AND good weather 😉.
You live sooo heavenly nice!

Petra, yes, it's a funny craft, isn't it? Great to hear that you had a good midsummer! Wishing you a continued nice week!
Steve, haha, a bit wrong season for a snowmobile, isn't it? It was very interesting to look at anyway!
Katarina, wasn't it a different craft? We mostly sat and yelled, haha (and ran after the camera of course ;))
Åse, I'm glad you're enjoying your reading here! Welcome back and wish you a great week too!
Matts, yes, we suddenly realised that we probably rarely take photos of the boat, as we always take photos from the boat. .... Pampas marina is located in Solna municipality, but only a few hundred metres from the border with Stockholm. Opposite us we have Kungsholmen, and we are also quite close to Karlberg castle. Oh, do you have a friend who has one of these...? Is there a name for them or is it "airborne motorbike" that applies then, haha 😉.
Ama de casa, haha right? Perfect for traffic jams! Wondering if there is any space in it so you can load groceries...? 😉

It must tickle you to death to sit up there in that aeroplane gas station ? It will be exciting if you get an answer to what it really is?

Looks so wonderful, your view there! 😀
That craft looks very strange indeed. And while I was looking at this one, there was a summer talk show on our local channel about - right. Strange things and the unknown.
Today I have a cute house bus in the blog 😀.
Summer hug ♥

Mr Peter Rydh says:
The aircraft is a so-called Gyrocopter, a simpler form of helicopter that needs a short take-off distance to take off and cannot stand still and hover. It also appears to be equipped with pontoons for taking off and landing on water.

nils-åke hansson says:
We could probably call it an ultra-light helicopter.
I like to watch birds a lot BUT feeding them on the terrace, outdoor dining area, restaurants and squares etc. is a scourge for me. It is so disgusting that I refuse to sit on outdoor terraces. And have told the owners to put up signs about not feeding the birds.
BUT I think we had a good midsummer weekend.

Diana's dreams, it's lovely by the water, especially in the summer! 🙂
Marina, haha, good suggestion 😉
Frankie & Co, yes or no? A reply has now been received! Check it out just above!
Geddfish, yes, there are some oddities in our world! Will of course look into the house bus!
Peter Rydh, oh thank you so much for the answer! Think so good that you can ask like this on the blog! 🙂 Thanks for the link too! Now I understand a little better, we really wondered!
Nils-Åke, oh another link, thanks! There is a lot to read about various small air vehicles, I see 😉 We actually do not usually feed the ducks either, for exactly the same reason as you say. It was probably the nubs that happened to make us extra "nice" this day 😉.

Now I've realised.... you live on a houseboat all the time!!!? Wonderful.
Great pictures.
Looking up can be good.... I did not do that the other day..... but luckily I was sitting under a ⛱ when it said SPLASH. Bird shit is not fun..luckily only a little bit landed on my shoulder.

Snows says:
Oh dear, it was a strange thing but I have got the explanation in a comment above! How lovely you live.

Marie, yes that's right! We live in a houseboat all the time, and enjoy it very much 🙂 Haha, I have also been involved in getting bird shit on me... twice. One time it was a huge shit that ran down my shoulder, while we were abroad in a city somewhere, haha 😉 😉
Znogge, yes it is great with blog readers who come with answers! 🙂

Ditte says:
Of course it is fun to live by the water/on the water because there is always something going on. But I'm not so fond of domesticated ducks, nor of swans (they can get very angry). But the seabirds are part of living by the water so you just have to like the situation.
I understand that Stockholm has had a lovely summer heat this weekend and the city is more alive than usual.
Lovely pictures that feel a bit like home, old Solnabo as I am.
Can miss our view from the quay in the south now that we are in the Spanish summer house where there is no sea view. But I have to make up for it.
I've seen the aerial manikin over fields a few times and it's handy for getting around and over large areas quickly.
But this one seems to have pontoons for landing on water. It was fun and the view from there is nice. Good overview.
Wishing you a good week with continued good weather.

Birds are quite fun but from a distance. Don't let them get too close or they won't be as much fun. And swans aren't even supposed to talk about ...
Yes, there were indeed aeroplanes high and low. And one in between.

Sofie - Country life with three little ones says:
Looks so cosy with boats, too bad I can't stand it at all. Feel almost sick just by travelling over helsingborg/helsingör ...
Sv: I really hope we get away with the motorhome and that it suits us, because the very concept of only driving when you want to suits the hubby's profession well because it is not possible to plan his holiday at all ....
Have a nice day!

BP says:
You probably don't need to go on holiday. You live in a holiday paradise, of course. The view of the water is simply magnificent.
I have actually seen the airship out here in Viggbyholm's boat harbour a few times - well, maybe not that one, but a cousin. However, I have no idea what it is called.

admin says:
Ditte, I have nothing against the ducks per se, but I don't really like it when they beg. Interesting that you've seen the aerial manikin over fields. I read in one of the links above that it is used for just that. Wishing you a nice week too!
Lennart, we had never seen one before ... but now we have realised that they exist 😉.
Emma sun as sun, we have some swans here too and they can also come relatively close. I have heard that swans can be aggressive, but I have never seen it with my own eyes.
Sofie. then it sounds better with a motorhome! 😉 Of course, a motorhome is good when you can't plan. It's just to load some stuff and drive. Hope you get away!!!
BP, yes it does feel like a holiday paradise in this weather! Interesting that you have seen the same aircraft! Apparently it can be called a gyrocopter according to a reader above.

Comsi Comsa, yes it is a small villa... According to the Swedish Tax Agency it is a "small house on unoccupied land" 😉.
Stare Ström, it's very nice, especially in the summer of course!
Anette, yes, it looked a bit tricky haha, but readers have now informed us that it is a "gyrocopter".
Kate, water gives a sense of freedom! When we are travelling with our motorhome, we also often look for water.
Åsa in Åsele, it is important to enjoy when summer appears! 🙂

Rose, this time is really great to be at sea. Wishing you a great week too!
Dryden, yes I know, the word direct debit was hilarious, I think I prefer the word gyrocopter 😉.
Petra, yes there is always something strange here... sometimes in the water and sometimes in the air 😉 Take care! Hugs

Really nice houseboat. Must be wonderful to take your home to different places and be close to the water. The partner would have loved it. Solna is also a very nice area that I hold very close to my heart 🙂.

Annster, glad you like our houseboat! It can't be driven though (no engine) but is firmly anchored at the jetty.
