I've said it before, but I have to say it again: there's always something going on when you live in a marina. Sometimes there's a film shoot on the dock and sometimes there are big luxury yachts gliding by so close that they almost touch our hull...
Film shooting in the marina
For the past few days, a film crew has been hanging out here on our pier, as they are filming an episode of the Mother Goose in one of the floating villas. Do you watch that show? Is it good? We haven't seen it, but it would be nice to see the episode filmed here on our jetty!
Incidentally, this is not the first time Pampas marina is on the film screen. When we were travelling around with the camper van last year, we watched the Arne Dahl detective series, and I promise we were surprised when we got to the episode Misterioso. The final scene was filmed at another neighbour's house on our jetty. It was a special feeling to sit in the motorhome down in southern Europe and see our own pier on film ...!
Luxury yachts outside our windows
Our houseboat is right at the entrance to the marina and at this time of year boats pass by all the time, but some you notice more than others! When the big Norwegian luxury yacht passed, it filled the entire width of the inlet, and we couldn't even see the floating villas on the other side... The flag? It belongs to the "Royal Norwegian Yacht Club".
Pampa's marina also houses four older model luxury boats. These vintage boats are early 20th century luxury yachts, and they are all so well maintained that the mahogany shines. Which do you like best, the modern luxury yachts or the older ones?
Inga Magnusson says:
Hmmm..... I guess I should say I like the older version best. But as someone who doesn't like the rocking underfoot, I can't get excited about any of them. I can imagine that you see a lot of Norwegian boats. They have a completely different tradition of boating, water is everywhere and they are close to the sea. People with plenty of money always have a boat and a cabin in the mountains.

Jenn - forever abroad says:
I love looking at luxury boats and wondering who the owner is and what they do to be able to afford such a boat. I still remember the giant sailboat in Auckland harbour, which had a whole crew working to clean, fix and paint it...
On Thursday we are having a summer party with work and are going out on a fancy sailing boat where dinner is served and we get to visit some islands, I am so looking forward to it - and wish that stays on boats were a more permanent feature of my life 😉.

Ann-Sofie says:
Have watched the first season of Mother Goose. I thought it was OK. But watching just one episode in a continuous series probably doesn't give you much.
The term 'luxury yacht' bothers me a bit. Why luxury? Because they are big?
Otherwise, I like the older yachts. I have a hard time with the modern big square high-rise versions of motor yachts. But they are certainly very comfortable on board.

Goatfish says:
You obviously have a completely different view than me. And your view appeals to me 😀.
When I sit on the balcony, I see motorhomes and caravans go by, either here or there, as I have the campsite across the road. But sometimes I see someone pulling a boat also from/to the boathouse - Vänern.
Even though I am a modernist, I think the old boats were really beautiful with nice lines and lots of wood.
Wishing you the same sun as I have today! 😀

JoY says:
As you say, there is always something happening. The water is like roads, boats are like cars, it moves all the time. Which big yacht came to visit, wonder who was on board. Hard to choose between modern or old, can't. A lot of work with old fine wooden boats and the modern ones do not really appeal to me. I am not so fond of the sound the engines make. Have had both motorboats and sailboats and prefer sailboats.
I have to admit that we were very impressed by the big Wedga Too! http://www.superyachttimes.com/yacht/5696097305a3e368ec22676e/wedge-too/ which we were invited to while walking in the Monaco Marina. Wow what a boat or whatever you call it. The boats around looked like dinghies and then they were still big.

Mr Frank Olsen says:
How exciting about filming!
Yes, we've seen a few episodes of Gåsmamman, it's quite good, but not among the best made in Sweden 🙂.

Across the board says:
Water life is fascinating. There is always something going on. If there are no boats to look at, the waves are moving. All the time. In many places there are fantastic boats Empuriabrava was a cool place with both yachts and villas. Right now I sit and listen to the waves of the Mediterranean ?

Mr Steve says:
You'll never be bored in the marina. Something always happens.
I'm not a boat person so I can only judge the appearance and the older yachts are more charming, but I realise that the new ones have so much more to offer in terms of comfort and performance.

Ama de casa says:
Fun when things happen around me. At least when it is pleasant 🙂
If I want to see our house on film, I might have to make that film myself, haha!
The old boats are really beautiful, but what a lot of work to keep them that way. When it comes to looking, the old ones are the most beautiful, but the new ones are certainly more comfortable in many ways. Well, it doesn't matter - I'll never "get" either an old or new one 😀.

Inga Magnusson, I haven't thought about whether there are many Norwegian boats here, but it's as you say, that Norwegians have a tradition of boating!
Jenn, yes, there are always big and expensive boats! The biggest ones we saw in Canada all had flags from one of those tax havens. Feels a little strange to show that you do not pay taxes when you are so rich, I think... You will surely have a wonderful time on the sailboat! 🙂
Ann-Sofie, your comment had gone into the bin for some reason, but now I have approved it. Yes, maybe "lyxyacht" is not good? My problem is that I think "yacht" is so difficult to pronounce in Swedish and it gets a little easier when you say "lyxyacht" haha, but maybe no one else thinks so...? It feels like people used to talk about "luxury yacht", but now it is more common to use the spelling "yacht" ...
Geddfish, a bit unusual (maybe?) with a campsite as a view! I also like the old boats (and the new ones too ;)) and there are some here that are even nicer. Will photograph them some day 😉
JoY, checked out the link and yep, impressive!!! I like both new and old boats, but it's a bit more unusual to see these nice old ones, so maybe it fascinated me a bit more!
Frank Olsen, ok, maybe we'll watch an episode of Mother Goose in the future and see what we think!
Across the board, I agree that Empuriabrava was a fascinating place! We got there thanks to some readers who recommended us on the blog! 🙂
Steve, it's probably as you say with the boats, but the old ones are at least fascinating to look at! There are four here that are all in incredibly good condition, I'll probably show them one day!
Ama de casa, we will not "get" any of those boats any day, haha. So we will have to settle for looking at them 😉.

Anna, Travel on a Cloud says:
Wow, you have to be in the right circles! 🙂 Oh, what fun if you came on a corner. No, unfortunately I do not watch detective stories on TV. But I like to look at luxury yachts. Then they should be big and majestic, like High Power III I encountered in Cavtat in Croatia a couple of years ago. I pretended for a moment that it was mine ... 😉 .

Renate's travels says:
Fun! Life is not boring in Pampas Maria in other words! 😀 Have seen the first episode of Mother Goose. I don't have a regular TV myself, so I won't be watching any more episodes anytime soon, but it's funny that they're filming almost right on your doorstep!

Lennart says:
The older one was very nice.
Old well-maintained wooden boats are awesome!

Maggan and Ingemar says:
Since my husband was a boat builder, we have been to a lot of boat shows. Of course, these new luxury boats are fantastic, but I wouldn't want one anyway. And the old wooden boats have their charm but need so much care. Then I like to stay on the shore, but it's fun to watch the different ships passing by, here it's mostly sailing boats. I have not been involved in any film shooting, but a lot of bridal couples have come down to our side of the lake for photography.

Ingrid says:
Now has the daughter living in Solna, so must make sure to find down to Pampas marina on occasion. Looks so lovely with the houseboats.

Anna, your comment ended up in the trash for some reason, but now I have approved it! Yes, of course it is important to be in the right circles, haha 😉 We will probably have to look at the Mother Goose in the future and see if the camera sweeps over our boat... 😉.
Renate, yes, it's really RIGHT outside the kitchen window, haha. I see how they are waving the microphones 😉.
Lennart, old well maintained boats are beautiful, aren't they? I will probably take pictures of the other three some day too 😉.
Maggan and Ingemar, for our part, we have mostly talked about a small boat, so we can get over to Kungsholmen type, haha. Fun with bridal couples who want to take pictures, then I understand that it is nice! 🙂
Ingrid, it's really nice here! There's a restaurant too, and it's open to walk around the piers.

Ditte says:
Isn't it a wonderful feeling to either live in the marina as you do or like us on the quay. And extra fun now with the Norwegian yacht. It was also fun to watch the film and what a feeling to sit in southern Europe and see your bridge.
I think many boats are the same with us because if you want to go out and into Lake Mälaren, you have to go through the Hammarbyslussen if you do not take the road via södertälje. Now not even the small boats can pass the Carl Johan lock because it is closed.
These big boats are usually not privately owned but chartered and I don't even know if I think they are all boats. More like high-rise buildings without feeling.
I think the old boats/yachts have much more feeling and they look like boats.
It's not exactly a sport to drive the big yachts with bow thrusters, radar and all the other equipment.
I miss sitting on the balcony and looking out. But that time will come.
Thank you for sharing.

Ruth in Virginia says:
I never realised that there are yachts in the north.
The first thing I think of, when I see the word "yacht" is a
photo of Jackie Kennedy and Onassis. The second image will be
princess Diana with her Mediterranean boyfriend in the same
surroundings. After all, most yacht photos come from Monte
Carlo and the Riviera. But a yacht in Lake Mälaren ..... a bit difficult
to imagine.
Wondering what the rich guys and super-beautiful wonders...
for women to spend the whole day on board? I also wonder if
there are rich women who are yacht owners and have a few Adonis.
on board?
No, I know I'm asking too much, but it's fun.
13 June 2016 - 17:01
admin says:
Ditte, yes, many boats are certainly the same! Fun to look at the boat life, right now it is hectic traffic 😉.
Ruth in Virginia, yes, there are some yachts here! Although I also associate them more with the French Riviera etc... Interesting thought whether there are yacht owners who are women! Probably a vanishingly small percentage... I guess. I also tend to check how many women DRIVE yachts. It happens from time to time, but not very often ...

BP says:
How nice that Pampas Marina is chosen for filming and that probably your houseboat will also be included. Or - at least I hope so. Have not seen the series you mention, but may well do so in the future just to check if Freedom is included.
I don't think you can compare the new luxury yachts with the old ones. The new ones are technical marvels without the least bit of charm, but at least this Norwegian boat has been used to sail to the Pampas and not just lie still in St Tropez.
The old boats are incredibly charming and are really loved by their owners who put their soul into maintaining them. Some of them are usually exhibited at the Boat Show, and it is a joy to look at them.

Matts Torebring says:
Now you should have an advert: "Time to buy a new boat"! That's a lot of money, but you can certainly use it around the world, all year round.

Snows says:
Many older well maintained boats are incredibly beautiful but there is something about new ones too. Anyway, it must be wonderful to live as you do.

BP, for some strange reason your comment ended up in the rubbish bin, but now I have approved it! Our houseboat is not in the first series (but our dock is). We'll have to watch Mother Goose to see if the camera sweeps over that one, haha 😉.
Matts, haha, yeah, right? Don't even want to know what one of those costs, I think... 😉.
Znogge, it's great to live like this, especially at this time of year!
Shamrock, maybe we'll have to watch Mother Goose then 😉.
Elisabeth, yes it's entertainment just looking out the window!

Ann-Sofie, yes I usually choose the latter... "Jåt" feels a bit strange in Swedish...!? 😉
Ika, here are four vintage boats that are in really good condition. Will show them one day!
Eva, lovely with a sea view! And glad to hear that you liked Mother Goose! Almost have to see then now that we watched the recording for several days 😉 .
