Last Friday we met up with our good friends Peter and Eva at Skeppsholmen in Stockholm, where there were plenty of activities for the ÅF Offshore Race. A nice evening with friends, sailing boats and interesting pizzas ...
ÅF Offshore Race
Between 200 and 250 sailboats are eagerly waiting to get underway from the harbour at Skeppsholmen. The ÅF Offshore Race starts on Sunday (i.e. today) between 11:00 and 14:00 and sails around Gotland. Most people expect 2-3 days at sea.
Before the race starts, there are several days of programme in Stockholm, with a smaller race around Fjäderholmarna, try sailing, food and drink, music performances and so on. And of course you can walk around and look at all the nice sailing boats!
Meeting with friends and visit to the Hjerta restaurant
You may remember Peter and Eva, whom we met during the Las Fallas festival in Valencia in Spain during our trip around Europe. Since then, Peter has also had the opportunity to be Guest of the week with us, as a person who has visited every (!) country in the world. Peter and Eva live in Valencia most of the time so we don't see each other often, but all the more fun when we do!
After checking out the sailboats and hanging out at the music stages, we decided to grab a bite to eat at Restaurant Hjerta on Skeppsholmen. Peter and I decided on an oblong little "ship's pizza" with grilled cheese and courgettes. We did not dare to try the pizza with sour herring, potatoes, onions and crème fraiche, so to speak ...
Matts Torebring says:
Boats, especially sailboats, attract a lot of people to the piers on summer evenings. We lived at Löttorps Camping, Öland, for 27 years. It was often "an evening pleasure to go to the harbour in Byxelkrok" to look at boats. Then we have been to Empuria Brava, Spain, the world's largest marina? In Sweden, I don't know if Stockholm has more boats than the west coast. It does not matter, fun to go and look.
Pizza with surströmming, no thanks! Someone said on a radio programme in the spring: "If you have moles in your garden, put surströmming in the paths and you'll never see them again". Lie! My moles eat the fish and only the tail fin comes up in the mounds of soil.

Really a cool vespa! 🙂
No you. Thanks but no thanks. Even if I like surströmming, I probably want something else on the pizza 🙂.
Fun with all the boats!

Glad you left greetings with me (a few weeks ago) so I could find you! What a fantastic blog you have. I have bounced around quite a bit and familiarised myself with you and your blog. I like your personal touch and not just hard travel facts.
I love travelling too, but unfortunately it is far too rare. Long and short trips. I grew up with caravanning, so I recognise myself in your planning of spaces. We have also recently had a caravan for a few years. Currently renovating our boat (a Sea ray weekender 300) which has been on land for a few years (for various reasons). But it is close now... The husband says that the boat will be launched for the holidays. Unclear which year though 🙂 I am starting to realise that it can actually happen this year.
You have been added to my Bloglovin list. So we will hear from you again 🙂 .
Have a nice Sunday!
Hug Lena

Sailing boats have never appealed to me. But I like the sea and then it must be a motor. Surströmming pizza - how cool that I'm someone who eats Surströmming sometimes.

Thank you for this! We have been here for several years and have friends who sail the race. Had intended to see the start yesterday from Fjällgatan as we usually do, but the foot did not want to go at all so it was nothing.
Really nice to meet friends here in Stockholm!
We have eaten at Hjerta but I would not have chosen the pizza with surströmming. I don't eat surströmming at all.
The orange scooter is absolutely gorgeous. Totally in my favour!

Matts, there are a lot of boats both around Stockholm and on the west coast. But of course it is fun to walk around boats to look, and perhaps above all it is a nice environment to stay in. Haha, interesting with the sour herring and sorrel...! 😉
Ama de casa, I don't even like surströmming, but regardless, it was an unusual combo, to say the least... 😉.
Lena, thank you so much for your comment! We were very happy that you appreciate exactly what we try to do with our blog - that is, we want to collect good travel tips and inspire travel, but we also want to have a personal blog. That's what we think is nice! We also like to have exchanges with both readers and other bloggers and you are very welcome back! Wishing you a nice Sunday!
Lennart, yes it is fantastic, you have to enjoy it while it lasts! 🙂
Nils-Åke, I cannot sail myself so I am not super interested in sailboats in that way either really, but I think it is cosy to stay in the environment with water and boats. Wishing a continued nice Sunday!
Ditte, it's great that you usually watch this competition, but it's a shame you missed it this year. I don't eat surströmming either, so I'm glad there was something else to choose from. The pizza with goat cheese and zucchini was good.
Ida, let's hope so! I usually check in with everyone who writes here, but mostly out of curiosity and because it's nice 🙂.
Jeanette, isn't it? 🙂

Pizza with surströmming is still a mockery of surströmming.

Must really make sure to be in Sthlm around ÅF Offshore race sometime, seems to be very nice :) Good choice with goat cheese instead of herring I think!

Yep, I remember your friends and the post. Nothing wrong with my memory;-)
Now I love surströmming, but to eat this delicacy on anything other than thin bread is blasphemy;-) I completely agree with Steve.
PS. But I think I would have tried it anyway;-) DS.

Steve, hmm, I haven't really got the hang of surströmming... but it was a bit unexpected on pizza 😉.
Kattis, the event was nice and we were also happy with the goat cheese 😉.
BP, haha you are so nice! "I still think I would have tried it".... Yes, if you like surströmming, it might be a hit! 🙂

Surströmming on its own and pizza on its own - but not together. Huwa!
What a lovely evening with sun and sea and good company.

Very cool vespa! And I wouldn't have chosen the sour herring either, it really doesn't sound good on pizza...
Take care! Nice pictures!

Lovely boat pictures and nice meeting with friends. Pizza is good and I think surströmming is too, but the combination is hard to imagine!

Shamrock, it's great with summer when you can meet outdoors like this! 🙂
Mias Mix, I'm glad you like the pictures and thank you!
Elisabeth, the combination sounded a bit strange even if the pizzas were a bit different (at least the one we ordered was without tomato sauce).
