A motorhome is a home so it must of course be cleaned from time to time, which we seem to have forgotten lately, haha. This weekend we and the motorhome are going to a wedding in the archipelago. Then we will also be several who will live in the motorhome, so now must it is cleaned ...
Cleaning for the wedding weekend
We lived in the camper van 365 days last year and it shows. There are a lot of things that are broken (the footstep, the control on the fridge, one of the stove plates, etc.) and even though we cleaned the car, it doesn't really feel clean. This year we haven't used it much either ...
This weekend we are going to Peter's niece's wedding in the archipelago and then both we and Robin and Alexandra (Peter's son with wife) will live in the motorhome. So now it's time to clean! Yesterday I washed textiles and on Thursday there will be a big cleaning.
Washing in the marina
Yesterday I made sure to wash all the bedding, all the towels and all the drapes. Our thin white curtains need really also washed, but I don't really know how to get them out, haha. It will have to be another day simply ...
As I told me the day before yesterday we have a washing machine in the houseboat, but it is quite small and it is a bit to walk on the bridges between the motorhome and the houseboat. Yesterday I chose to borrow the laundry room in the marina instead, where there are two washing machines, tumble dryers and drying cabinets (costs SEK 25 for two machines). Practical sometimes! Do you have any routines for cleaning the motorhome/caravan/boat?
Dessan says:
Of course, sometimes you have to clean your motorhome. Luckily it's small and quick to clean. ?have so much fun at the wedding?

Ha ha my routine of caravan cleaning is that I don't clean 😉 my husband cleans as the caravan is his baby 🙂.

Lennart says:
We live most of the time in the motorhome, so of course it has to be cleaned.
Now it's time to look for a washing machine again!

Mr Steve says:
Cleaning and laundry are part of everyday life wherever you live.
A wedding in the archipelago sounds lovely. I hope you also have luck with the weather.

Mr Frank Olsen says:
We do a bit of cleaning when needed, we have no fixed routines for this.
So it depends on the weather, mood and how much time we have available.
About time; you'd think that when you don't work and only live in your campervan for a year, you'd have enough time..... ?
No, we are first and foremost on a trip to experience Europe, so cleaning comes second 🙂.

The motorhome needs maintenance both inside and outside! 🙂
Enjoy and good luck.........

Christine - 29°. says:
Yes, you can do much more fun things than cleaning, but it's something that has to be done from time to time unfortunately.
Have a wonderful time at the wedding! 🙂

Ama de casa says:
Nice with weddings! 🙂
Haha! That's another advantage of hotel camping - cleaning is much easier... 😉.

Ama de casa says:
But the tent cleaning was not so complicated either. I had a small broom with a shovel... 😀.

Hope you have a great time at the wedding!

Ann-Sofie says:
Cleaning always manages to be de-prioritised in our house. There are always more fun things to do. So now that we are going to sell the boat, we have a lot of work ahead of us. All cabinets and stowage spaces must be cleaned, some need to be repainted. So first empty the space and then clean. At first I put the stuff back, but quickly realised how stupid that was. They had to be removed from the boat, so now they are transported ashore and then I clean and hope that the last round of cleaning will be easier .... But I have a nightmare place and it is behind and under the stove. Our stove hangs in a device so that it is always in a horizontal position no matter how much the boat is tilted. The person who installed the stove 18 years ago should be allowed to come here and do the cleaning. The person managed to mount one of the suspension bolts so that I had to dismantle the dishwasher to get the bolt out. Dismantling the dishwasher involves demolishing half the kitchen. I had to turn into a snake man to get at it and clean it.

Then, yes it is small, but I think it takes a while to clean anyway, haha.
Åsa in Åsele, but oh, what a perfect routine! 😉
Lennart, yes you have to do it from time to time when you live in it! 🙂
Steve, that's right! And yes, we hope for good weather this weekend!
Frank Olsen, I also thought that we would have plenty of time for that when we were travelling, but then there are so many other things going on... It's not always easy to do the cleaning and laundry either.
Rolle and Carina, that's right!
Cat, haha, well, you have to have as much fun as possible 😉.
Christine, of course there are more fun things, but it's still nice when it's clean!
Ama de casa, haha, yes it is definitely an advantage with hotel camping! (And maybe even with tents then;))
Marina, thank you, it will be fun!
Ann-Sofie, I can recognise that! We also like to prioritise cleaning, but in the end you have to. If nothing else when selling 😉 I understand that you have a horse job ahead of you. And what a pain with the stove...!

Clean yes! But it is a nice cleansing feeling after that occurs =)

BP says:
Mmmmmhhhhhh. So the thing about cleaning regardless of where you live is not my strong point. In your case, I would probably recommend doing the big cleaning after Robin and Alexandra's visit. Because now you have to clean twice;-)
PS. You seem to be as technically gifted as me;-) DS.

Of course, the motorhome has to be cleaned sometimes. After all, it's a place you live in.

Maria, yes it's true! Very nice when you HAVE cleaned 🙂
BP, haha, yes, it might be easier if I cleaned up afterwards! And no. I'm not overly technical... 😉.
TantGlad, thank you very much!

Goatfish says:
I can say that all the three caravans we owned were my husband's baby. He took care of most of the cleaning, both inside and out. It was best to stay away. 😉 Haha, no, I did something.
On the other hand, the carriages retained their freshness, but what fun is cleaning?
Hugs

Good luck with the cleaning, and have a great time at the wedding. Sounds wonderful to have it in the archipelago!

The motorhome is a bit of fun to clean because there is so little space. It will be fresh when everything is washed and repacked.

I have no experience whatsoever with motorhomes or tents, or anything else. Live in an apartment, but go by car from time to time. with "Gubben" <3 <3
I didn't have to do the cleaning today. The old man did, because I was in charge of the laundry today.
Answer: There were beautiful clothes at Dunkers Kulturhus.
You obviously need a little education from Henry Dunker.
He owned the Helsingborg rubber factory Tre Torn. He died childless and bequeathed his money to the city of Helsingborg.
To honour him, they built it as a tribute to him. He was the richest man in Sweden when he died.
So the exhibition of Camilla Thulin's clothes was shown at the Kulturhuset.
There you go, you've had some education about Helsingborg...

Matts Torebring says:
My then old mother once said, many years ago: "Now Rune (my eldest brother) comes home and I haven't cleaned the wardrobes, what am I going to do?". My dear wife is also a stickler for tidying up from time to time. "You're looking for every weed outside, so I keep it tidy inside," she says. Despite the fact that we clean often and regularly, despite the fact that we are a little bit at home, where do the dust rats come from?

Jessica - The Shetland Wife says:
I don't have a boat or a motorhome/caravan, and I think that cleaning the car never happens...?... But I have a moving house cleaning to "look forward to" and I've done a few of them!

At least weddings are something to look forward to 😀 When it comes to cleaning motorhomes, I have nothing useful to say...

Geddfish, great to have a dedicated man in these situations! Not much fun to clean, but good to get it done!
Criss-cross, it's less surface area so it's good that way. We've been too sloppy for a while, but we just have to get on with it.
Like, perfect to help with the cleaning! And thanks for the "lesson" 😉 There is always something new to learn!
Matts, it sounds like you have a very tidy home! We are probably more careless, unfortunately. And dust rats multiply quickly!
Jessica, moving house cleaning is tough! Then it always feels a bit sad that you do not get to live in that well-cleaned home afterwards, I think, haha
Znogge, we are looking forward to the wedding!

Have a nice trip and a cosy wedding. Would you do the photography? If so, you have a huge task on your hands, the moments won't come back. But you are two and very good at photography so the pictures are guaranteed to be great. I hope you get to show some of them on the blog.
18 August 2016 - 8:35
admin says:
Henny, yes we will do the photography. Of course, it feels honourable and a little nervous. We are not professional photographers, but at least there are two of us and we each have a camera and are also present during the party etc., so we hope they will be satisfied...

Cleaning is so boring 😛 Every spring when we bring out "Fjanten", I clean and wipe out all the cabinets before we put in all the things that are in the storage room during the winter, such as cushions and household items. My husband washes the outside and we have a small garage that is the perfect height to stand on to wash the roof and we usually wash the awning... Then I am "free" all summer!!! 😀 We have a small vacuum cleaner in the back of the garage that is used if it becomes far too advanced during the holidays but otherwise it is mostly to dry some surfaces like that and shake off the carpets... Tihi! Too lazy 😛 Hope you have a wonderful wedding weekend and that the photography goes well!

Lots of other stuff and some concrete says:
We (my husband) clean the motorhome and empty the tanks every time we come home. So that it will be ready if you suddenly feel like taking a trip. But ours is not that big ...
Hope you have a great weekend!

Annalena, it's really boring to clean a motorhome! We usually don't clean more than necessary, haha, and often we have the same division as you: I clean inside and Peter outside 😉.
A lot of other things and some concrete, I've noticed that there seem to be a lot of men cleaning motorhomes! 🙂

Caravan or motorhome, that's the question for us. But then it's as you write, it should be cleaned too, not just travelled. Everything that you "put on" takes a little time.
