Market in Gdansk dating back to the 13th century

The market St Dominic's Fair is organised every year in Gdansk, during the first three weeks of August. The market has a very long tradition and has been organised almost every year since 1260 (!), except for a few decades during the war.

The market fills the old town and offers everything: clothes, jewellery, bags, hats, toys and kitchen utensils. There's also a whole street of antiques and another street where amber is almost exclusively sold. In addition, the city is full of artists and performances. The coolest was the huge drum in the centre of town - here everyone could help beat the rhythmic music. We even snuck into a corner and helped with the drumming!

Very good to eat and drink

There are also lots of stalls selling things to eat and drink: grilled meat, sandwiches, pastries, grilled goat cheese, waffles and soft ice cream for example. I (Helena) tried grapes dipped in dark chocolate and in the evening we found a restaurant with great sushi. A beautiful and tasty end to a good day!
