Every year a huge market is organised in Gdansk for everyone in Poland, running up and down the street. The city is full of stalls, artists, performances and holidaymakers. We checked out the world's biggest drum, tried chocolate-dipped fruit and found some really good and beautiful sushi. Join us at the market in Gdansk!
Market in Gdansk dating back to the 13th century
The market St Dominic's Fair is organised every year in Gdansk, during the first three weeks of August. The market has a very long tradition and has been organised almost every year since 1260 (!), except for a few decades during the war.
The market fills the old town and offers everything: clothes, jewellery, bags, hats, toys and kitchen utensils. There's also a whole street of antiques and another street where amber is almost exclusively sold. In addition, the city is full of artists and performances. The coolest was the huge drum in the centre of town - here everyone could help beat the rhythmic music. We even snuck into a corner and helped with the drumming!

Very good to eat and drink
There are also lots of stalls selling things to eat and drink: grilled meat, sandwiches, pastries, grilled goat cheese, waffles and soft ice cream for example. I (Helena) tried grapes dipped in dark chocolate and in the evening we found a restaurant with great sushi. A beautiful and tasty end to a good day!

On Friday , our last day in Gdansk we strolled around the "antique street" some market stalls on the other streets were open. Street up and street down, have never seen so many stalls. Finally we found a cosy restaurant before the thunder and rain came.

Ama de casa, it's not just Fridays, but every day for three weeks if I understand it correctly. And yes, I think it always starts on a Saturday, so it could be at the end of July... it's a different date every year so I simplified it a bit 😉.
Daniel Majak, we never tried the cheese, but I hear now that we should have... 😉.
Ditte, sorry you had rain in Gdansk! We have almost always been lucky and had good weather, but I am aware that you have to be lucky with the weather in Poland.

Yep, I recognise myself here. Have also visited this gigantic market and checked the Amber Street with the sculptures on walls and houses. There we sat in a café and looked for a long time at the crowd and two older gentlemen playing music outside.
The sushi looked really good and varied!
PS. By the way, in Sopot there is a mini version of the Gdansk market in the square where the pier begins and Monte Cassino ends. DS.
