Yesterday we came home from a week's summer holiday in Poland. We have had a very nice and relaxing week together with our friends. Here are some pictures that we have not had time to show, as well as some tips for you who would also like to summer holiday in Poland.
Good end to our holiday
So we spent a week in Poland with our friends Lennart and Beata, who have a holiday apartment there. You may remember that things got a little unnecessarily dramatic when Peter and Lennart went sailing on a catamaran? Fortunately, they got their revenge!
We bought new fasteners for the mast in Gdynia and when the mast was mounted they set off again. This time the wind was pretty good and they got a lot of speed during a successful catamaran trip!
We also had one last, very nice, dinner with Beata's sister and her small family. Even though the family doesn't speak English (and even though our Polish is very limited) we have a good time every time we meet, with the help of gestures and Beata's translations.
Why summer holidays in Poland?
This time we visited our friends Lennart and Beata in Poland, but we have also been here several times on our own in our motorhome. We think the Polish coast is a great place for a summer holiday. Here are five reasons to holiday on the Polish coast in the summer:
- It is close to - You can fly cheaply with Ryanair from Skavsta to Gdansk or you can take your car/caravan with you on the train. ferry with Polferries (from Nynäshamn or Ystad), ferry with Unity Line (from Ystad), TT-Line ferry (from Trelleborg) or StenaLine ferry (from Karlskrona).
- It is cheap - Restaurants are often only half the price of what they cost in Sweden. It's nice to go out to eat when it doesn't have to cost a fortune!
- The beaches are fantastic - The sandy beaches are long, and you can choose between exclusive Sopot, tongue of land Hel or countless smaller places such as Rewa or Dziwnow.
- There are plenty of campsites - The campsites are affordable and located all along the Polish coastline, we have written about the campsites we have visited.
- There is much to see - If you're staying near the coast, you can check out the historically interesting city, for example. Gdansk, charming Gdynia or visit the castle Malbork.
Is there any reason to not What about summer holidays in Poland? Well, it would probably be the weather in that case. If you're lucky, it's fantastically nice and warm in the summer, but it's a bit like in Sweden - if you're unlucky, it can rain and get a bit cold.

Do you have time and opportunity to travel around and discover more during your summer holiday in Poland? Then we can recommend great cities such as Wroclaw, Poznan and Torun. I have never been to Poland... But it looks very nice! However, other places are ahead on the wish list, like Croatia and Malta. Yes, and Ullared of course 😀.
Glad that the boys managed to sail the catamaran with the happy sails in the end. Must have been good for their self-confidence 😉.

Hello!
We were in Sopot on the way home from Warsaw and it was unexpectedly beautiful.
The only thing that was not affordable was the Polish ferry Gdynia-Karlskrona. Including food, it went on 4000kr one way and a family member got Salmonella.
Hugs

Nice that it was a new sailing! And how lovely it looked!
In Poland I have visited Gdansk and Gdynia but that was in November and we took the ferry from Nynäshamn and I will never take it again. Storm and lousy boat.
But the visit itself was fine (two nights in a good hotel) and I liked both cities but kept dreading the return journey and considered flying.
So if I go to Poland again, it won't be by boat from Nynäshamn.
Krakow is attractive, but I would probably not choose Poland for a bathing holiday, If I had friends to visit in Poland, it would of course be different.
Who knows? Maybe it will be a visit, but since I don't sunbathe anymore and want warm water when I bathe, it probably won't be the Polish coast.
If we had travelled with a motorhome and travelled around, I would probably have thought differently.
I have really enjoyed travelling to Poland through your posts with enticing pictures and nice texts.

I think you have shown very good positive aspects of Poland. Everything depends on a lot of circumstances of course.
For my part, a bus trip "around Poland" has been on my wish list for a while. If it comes off, you never know 😀 Goes a lot on the "feeling right then" 😉
Thank you for coming with you 😀.
Summer hugs!

Lennart, we think Poland has a lot to offer 🙂 .
Dessan, glad you like the picture! It really looked like that one night, almost unreal!
Ama de casa, haha, of course Ullared is at the top of the list 😉 And yes, the boys looked happy after the sailing trip 🙂 .
Cecilia, I agree that the ferries can be quite expensive, Polferries ferries are quite worn out too, I have heard that the other company (whatever it is called?) is better.
Znogge, yes it is really close and therefore easy to go to!
Steve, thank you very much 🙂
Ditte, Polferrie's boats feel quite worn, we agree! Our friends who we visited usually take the ferry from Karlskrona instead and they say it's fresher.
Geddfish, bus trip around Poland sounds interesting! Yes, there are various factors that come into play. When it comes to Poland, I think the weather is an important factor. If you are unlucky, it can rain and be a bit chilly, and then it will not be the same experience ...

So nice to read a lot of positive things about Poland!
Haha this language thing makes me think of my grandmother, she is the most beautiful woman in the world and comes from Finland. She knows no English so when she meets people from all sorts of countries (she is friends with a fiddler up north in Tjautjas, who has many guests from all over the world) she still manages to communicate with them somehow. "Me and xx from Italy have so much fun together even though we don't speak the same language", or when she even managed to have a phone conversation with someone who doesn't speak Swedish... Admirable! 😉
For example, here in Finland, I call the doctor and get the answer "Actually I don't speak English at all" in quite perfect English....

Travelbug, thank you very much 🙂
Jenn, haha so fun to read about your grandma! And most fascinating to be able to communicate on the phone - THAT is impressive! I know when you talk on the phone with people who break or who you may speak English with, and who you usually think it's fine to talk to, on the phone it still becomes more difficult when you can't see each other and can't use gestures ....
Rolle and Carina, at least that's our experience.
Fantasy Dining, glad you like Gdansk too! I was in Warsaw when I was about 17 and travelled by train. I was not so impressed then, but now I have seen very inspiring pictures with other travel bloggers so I would love to travel there again 🙂 .
Liniztravel, so wonderful with a trip to Crete! 🙂 And great if you benefited from what we emailed!

Have just heard about Sopot and seen photos from there, looks magical!
Have visited Krakow quite a few years ago, there was a lot to see, and it was soooo cheap I remember! Something that was tough to visit was the Auschwitz concentration camp....

Susjos, I visited that concentration camp while travelling by train over 20 years ago. Difficult but important visit!

With a Polish mother, I have experienced Poland since childhood and just want to point out that the Gdansk area is among the coldest I have been in Poland. If you want a beach, go to Szczecin and Swinoujscie instead-it's warmer.
If you only want heat, go further south.
