We don't know much about caravans and therefore find it a bit difficult to report on caravans at the Elmia fair. But yesterday we were guided by caravan expert Johan Persson, who runs the caravan blog Caravanum and also writes for the magazine Allt om Husvagn och Camping. Join us for a guided tour of the new caravans!
Table of contents
Kabe Imperial 630 - for the quality-conscious person
Kabe is the caravan brand for those who want quality and a caravan that can withstand the Swedish winter cold. You shouldn't be too sensitive about costs either, because Kabe is also the most expensive brand on the market. For the new Kabe Imperial 630 caravan (i.e. a living length of about 6.30 metres), you have to pay SEK 660,000. What is special about this particular caravan is that the kitchen is large and located at the front of the caravan - a caravan for those who like to cook.
Adria Adora 613 - for the price conscious person
Adria also presents a new caravan where the kitchen is at the front of the caravan. This caravan is almost as long as Kabe's corresponding variant, but is significantly cheaper. This caravan costs SEK 282,000, which is less than half the price of a Kabe. If the quality is worse? Yes, it certainly is, but whether there is as much difference as the price suggests is another question. This is a nice and cosy wagon and it feels like you get a lot for your money.
Polar 650 - for the winter camping family
We also looked at a new caravan from Polar, which is priced between Kabe and Adria. Polar is a Swedish brand that is known to withstand the cold well. The caravan we were in was equipped for two adults and two children, but felt perhaps a little cramped for the purpose. We also thought it was a bit dark, and the quality of the cabinets and doors didn't feel as high as in the Kabe caravan. The price is £499k.
H0bby 495 Excellent - Johan's favourite
Finally, we took a look at Johan's favourite among the new caravans: 495 Excellent from Hobby. This is a rather small caravan for a maximum of 2 people, but we have to agree that it is very cosy. Of the caravans we entered, this was the one that felt the most homely and cosy. The price for this caravan is 277 tkr.

A lot has happened since I went out with my first Cabby in the 60s.

Matts Torebring says:
During 27 years, 1973 - 1998, in caravanning, we managed to own many different brands and caravans. But never Kabe and Polar. At that time we were a bit stingy. In retrospect, I think we should have bought Kabe from the beginning.

Emma, sun like sun? says:
Yes, those are really small houses. Nice and fun to see even though I have never lived in a caravan.

Ditte says:
Nice to see the new models, but for me it would be awkward to have a house after a car.
However, I have tried travelling with a car with a caravan in tow on Norwegian mountain roads and it was not exactly uplifting. We had to reverse when the road narrowed.
For many people, caravanning is rewarding and fun and practical in many ways.
Thank you for the nice tour.

Steve, I can imagine! 😉
Matts, I didn't realise you had a motorhome for so long! And of course I had guessed that you had a Kabe 😉.
Emma, these are small houses! We've never had a caravan either, so expert guidance was perfect!
Ditte, a caravan is probably not really our thing either, but there are many who enjoy caravanning. And today's caravans are really nice, so in a way I can understand them!

Well, motorhome is fine. Caravan - never! Just the thought of reversing with it or pocket parking makes me hyperventilate;-)

Chills ..... at the thought of living ..... in a caravan.
But interesting to see anyway. 🙂

Ama de casa says:
We had a caravan when I was little in the late 60s. A polar caravan I think it was (if there is such a thing?). It didn't really look like that... 😉.

Then a long time ago 😉 my parents had an Adria, and after that short experience I have to say that my opinion - based on my own experience and my parents' opinion 😉 - is that Adria is a "cheap caravan" and not the perfect one if you are more than two adults... but as I said it was then when I was a child/teenager and a lot has happened in recent years 🙂
As we stand still at the campsite most of the time when we are out and from there make excursions by car, a caravan suits us better 🙂.
My husband, a former professional driver, has no problem reversing or parking even though we have a relatively large caravan.
A little advertising 😉
The polar caravan or Polar is a Swedish type of caravan.
The caravans are manufactured in Dorotea in Västerbotten County,
The company is now known collectively as SoliferPolar AB.
Next to the factory in Dorotea is a caravan museum.
Dorotea is 5 mil from Åsele 🙂 .
