This weekend was All Saints Day and we met my (Helena's) mum and brother and their family to spend time together and light a candle on my dad's grave. Mum also treated us to a meal at Skänkstugan in Täby. This little restaurant in the countryside is really cosy and also offers good food, so of course we have to tell you and show you some pictures. How was your weekend?
Restaurant in a 19th century cottage
Nygårds Värdshus (pictured) is located in Täby kyrkby outside Stockholm. Among other things, Christmas dinners are organised here, and weddings and other parties can also be held here. Right next door, in a small cottage from the 19th century, is the restaurant "Nygårds Inn". The taproom.
In the restaurant you can have lunch or dinner in a cosy environment while the fire burns in the stove. The food is seasonal and the menu offers Swedish flavours. You'll find things like vendace roe, game tapas, pheasant, reindeer, meatballs and desserts with blackberries or cloudberries. There are also really local beers, such as Ytterby Indian pale ale from Roslags Näsby brewery. Very tasty and delicious!
3-course All Saints menu
We chose a 3-course menu composed specifically for the All Saints weekend, and we were very pleased. For starters, we had a chèvre pastry with asparagus, which was served with beetroot. The main course was char with boiled potatoes, lightly cooked vegetables and mushroom sauce. Finally, we had a sorbet with berries and crunch. Very good food in a very nice environment. This is how food should be served! Recommended if you happen to be in the neighbourhood!
Mr Steve says:
What a nice place and such a beautiful house. It is so wonderful to see when old houses are preserved and not modernised.
It's also a wonderful meal. I love char, but unfortunately real Arctic char is very rarely available in the shops.

Steve, can only agree! It's a special feeling to be in this kind of environment!
Lena, it was good 😉
Henny, yes, perhaps you can see it that way? The food felt very Swedish, and we discussed that Swedish food is almost the least common in restaurants. It feels like Thai and Chinese and Italian etc. are more common 😉.

But my goodness... The water is flowing here now. So good! Their food on the menu appeals to me, many favourites such as onion roe and game, and meatballs are never wrong 🙂.
The fact that it's a cosy environment doesn't make things worse 🙂.
Here it has been a hectic weekend with lots of nice things 🙂 .

Fun and nice with such restaurant gems in an old environment.
I'll certainly keep the man in mind if there is a trip in that direction.
Both the food and the environment look appealing.
Here we are still enjoying a nice summer with +23 until late in the evening and it is nice to sit outside for a long time and enjoy. The Swedish late harvest feels far away.

Pleasant, delicious, appetising in a beautiful setting. Could it be better?
Here the autumn storms are whirling around among the white flakes on the ground, so it's an indoor day in my opinion. But I'm going out.
Skyline Sunday hug!

Truly a cosy house that will hopefully be preserved in that condition. The perfect place to have a cosy dinner. At least my owner is now home in Sweden, 27 hours late...?

Evy Knoph, there is a lot of good food in Sweden! When we were abroad for a whole year, we also missed some things, including Swedish prawns 🙂.
Ulla & Torgny, it was very good and the presentation of food also affects how you perceive it!
Ama de casa, busy day with lots of fun doesn't sound bad at all!
Marina, a little bit of heat doesn't sound bad either 😉.
Ditte, what lovely warmth you have! Here it's snowy rain across the board, so it's really nothing to miss! But of course, these are perfect days for cosy meals indoors 😉.
Geddfish, we also have horrible weather with snowy rain and gusting winds. Tough on you for going out!
Husisblog, oh no, 27 hours of delay does NOT sound fun. But hope they had a really good time while they were there!!!

Delicious meal with mum!
We had dinner at our home with my sister who has now moved from Sundbyberg to Malmö, great fun with Skåne returnees, we think in the family 🙂 🙂 🙂.
The parents are resting in Löddeköpinge, right in the middle of us!

Yes, and I always complain that there are no decent places to eat in my neighbourhood, or almost my neighbourhood. Thanks for exploring my neighbourhood:-)
The environment is fantastic as are the pictures of the food by the way. High class on both! Also checked the menu and stuck to the "game special" during October and November. Great! Even better that the place is open for lunch during the summer. So thank you:-)

Ontripdk, isn't it easy to get hungry when looking at food pictures on blogs? 😉
Katta, I have not been to Edvsiken, although I have heard about it. Guess this place is a little smaller. But it is very cosy and good food!
Matts, a cosy little place in the countryside. Small and feels personal, and good food. That's what we like 🙂
Lena, it sounds like you also had a nice family dinner! Understand that you appreciate the "return" 🙂.
BP, haha, yes, it's good that we're checking out your neighbourhood 😉 Wildlife special doesn't sound bad at all!

Ruth in Virginia says:
Love those old buildings; mansions or manor houses.
which is used as a restaurant. The rooms are so much more
welcoming than they are in large restaurants. Also think, that the owners
are very proud of them with the consequence that the food is extra tasty.
Such a menu cannot be found ANYWHERE in the US.
Asparagus and beetroot! Char and boiled potatoes! Yumyum!!!!

Ruth in Virgina, oh, I would probably miss these flavours if I lived in the US. But of course, that's always the case when you move away from your home country, there's always something about food that you miss ...
Alexandra, thank you very much!
