You may remember our dramatic journey to Kristinehamn when our FREEDOM motorhome suddenly broke down on the motorway and we had to wait in the dark for recovery? What has happened to the motorhome since then? We thought we'd tell you a bit about that - and at the same time about the new lectures at Caravan Stockholm that we have coming up!
What happened to Freedom
Honestly, we don't have much news at all. FREEDOM is still in the workshop in Kristinehamn waiting to be repaired. They have reported that the windscreen wiper motor has burned and taken some other cables in the engine room with it.
We recently received a reply from the insurance company that they not is covering some of the costs, so just pay and look happy. We don't know when it's done, nor do we know what the road conditions will be like when we get the message to collect the car...
lectures at caravan Stockholm
What we did in Kristinehamn was that we lectured about our 1 year long European trip with the motorhome. Great fun! Now we are preparing for new lectures. On 16-19 February it is time for the Caravan Stockholm fair. We will hold two lectures:
- Friday 17/2 at 11:00 on travelling with a motorhome in Albania & Macedonia
- Sunday 19/2 at 13:00 on travelling by motorhome in Corsica & Sardinia
We will also have our own table (E10) and a roll-up that says "FREEDOMtravel". There we will stand and blog, offer sweets and talk to people. Great fun if you want to come to one of our lectures - or if you want to come and talk about us at our table!
Lennart says:
Hope it works out with the motorhome before the season!

Henny says:
You are really busy even without a motorhome. What energy you two must have. Looking forward to new exciting revelations 😉.

Ditte says:
Hope for the best regarding the motorhome! Sad with the cost but just to "bite the bullet".
Fun with new lectures and if I am at home I will of course come by. Would be fun to listen to both.

admin says:
Lennart, we think it will. According to the insurance company, it was "almost" ready three weeks ago ...
Henny, yes we are always busy 😉 And haha, yes there might be something tomorrow! 😉
Ditte, yes there is not much to choose from, the motorhome must be repaired! Great fun if you would be at home and come by 🙂 🙂

Hope Freedom will be whole again in the spring

Alexandra says:
Poor Freedom, having to stand there all alone and broken. Now it is quite a long time until February but we will probably go to the fair, Elmia was so much fun so why not as well. ?
15 December 2016 - 7:47
admin says:
Across the board, yes he has to be made whole!!!
Alexandra, yes we suffer a little with FREEDOM ... but at least he is indoors now! Caravan Stockholm is much smaller than Elmia, but it's still fun and it's much closer so it's easy to go there for those of us who live in this part of Sweden.
15 December 2016 - 7:50
Travel Friday says:
How fun that you are going to lecture! Lisa and I will actually hold our very first live podcast at Caravan, hope you have time to cheer us on in the audience. We can load with sweets at your table before it's time to podcast, haha. Hugs!

nils-åke says:
Of course, it will work out with the motorhome. There will be no winter fair for us.

Mr Steve says:
When an accident occurs, the insurance does not apply. I've heard it before. Bummer!
You obviously do well when you lecture because you are re-engaged. A good receipt and fun of course for you to spread your knowledge and your message.

admin says:
Travel Friday, but oh what fun!!! Then I get a little curious about what the theme of the podcast episode is? 😉 Of course we will see you! You are welcome on candy loading 🙂
Nils-Åke, yes, it should be fixed. And we will see you at another time!
Steve, that's the classic when it comes to insurance ... 😉 Yes, great to be hired as a lecturer again!

Anette Åhnbrink says:
Of course, Freedom will be good, but there are usually holes in the wallet ... fun that you are going to the fair in Kista, we had intended to put down our annual visit to Stockholm, with both the Greece Fair and Caravan, now we may have to think about it? A little tip, which I think you already know about, but there is a very big motorhome weekend in Kristinehamn next year on crisis pilots, and there you would fit ? Have a continued good day, and we look forward to the "Friday shiver" /Anette

Marina says:
Now maybe that particular fair is not something that attracts so very much, in that case it would probably be to visit you 😉 And you never know, if I happen to be in Stockholm then maybe ...

snort says:
How unfortunate for Freedom, and how unfortunate that the insurance company doesn't pay. When you take out the insurance, it usually seems good, but when it comes down to it, it is rarely as favourable...

Roland lindskog says:
Hello to you if you want to find out why this has happened & what to change, cost if we do not do the job ourselves. Can you call me mvh Roland 0707302800.

Goatfish says:
What is insurance for? For paying premiums and never getting anything back, when that should be the case? Good thing it's not the summer season for FREEDOM!
It would have been fun to come in February, but Sthlm is too far away, as it feels right now.
15 December 2016 - 10:17
BP says:
Bad luck with Freedom and typical insurance refusal to pay. I've heard that verse before...
If I were you, I would not speed up the repair. The way the weather is going, you can't drive the car with summer tyres anyway. So it's fine where it is - in my opinion ...
Fun with lectures on stage and your own stand. We usually visit that fair so there may be an opportunity to check you out;-)
PS. Of course I read your comment too;-) DS.

Husis blog says:
I hope FREEDOM is as warm and happy as I am in our winter idea. It's just as well not to rush the repair of FREEDOME, unless you intend to drive in the winter and have already bought winter tyres....
It's a pity that my owners live so far from Stockholm because otherwise they would have gone and listened to you and had a chat with you, but the owners hope for another opportunity.

Lena Gunnarsson says:
Fingers crossed it doesn't cost you a fortune.
It would be nice to hear about the Albania trip but we are still in Spain in February.
15 December 2016 - 18:01
Inga Magnusson says:
What adventures you have in Värmland. I have missed it. When you pick up the motorhome, you can continue the E18 a bit more to Årjäng and visit us here. ;- ) It's about 12 kilometres or so. Kristinehamn has a nice art museum, worth a visit! And a Picasso statue, but you can both have and lose it, I think. Hope everything works out with the car.

åsa in åsele says:
I'm so sorry to hear about the mess with your motorhome,
I really hope that it won't be too expensive.
I saw BP's comment and really agree with her.

Rantamor on the retina says:
But that's the problem with these insurances, you really have to pay, but when you start fighting for compensation, you often end up losing and getting pissed off.
But if the windscreen wiper motor was on fire then you should have received compensation, because fire insurance is always included....or ????
Well, it's a shame anyway
I hope things work out for Freedom so you can get back on the road in the spring for new adventures.
I have that sense of ownership of the motorhome that I get too attached to it and grieve if we change the motorhome.
We're pretty happy now, but we're thinking about getting two separate beds in the back so we don't have to crawl over when we get up at night.
You become a bit of a night owl over the years.
Enjoy the chirping from Rantamor.

Matts Torebring says:
It doesn't sound like a simple fault on the motorhome. It's happened a few times on our coffee machines, where entire cable harnesses are damaged. I know it can take any amount of time to fix. I hope I don't scare you. Think about the lectures instead, it's probably much more fun.

Deciree says:
It was a record time to have the car at verkstad☺️ Hope they fix the car and that they do not ruin you. Hugs

So fun with new lectures about your travels. Hope it soon resolves with the motorhome and that the road conditions are so that you can bring it home!

Anette, yesaa now we think you should immediately replan and come here! 🙂 Thanks for the tip about the motorhome weekend in Kristinehamn! We have probably heard about it, but have no good control. In any case, FREEDOM is already in place 😉.
Marina, I understand that it is not the number one fair if you are not looking for a motorhome, but it would be great if you came by and said hello 🙂 .
Znogge, I never really understand when insurance applies, but rarely when you need it ...
Roland Lindskog, thanks for that! I think our husis will get help at the workshop where it is, but I will tell the CEO you wrote to Peter.
Geddfish, yes, you do sometimes wonder what you have those insurances for... We did get out a little when many of my clothes were water damaged, but it is one of the very few times I have been involved in getting something on an insurance.
BP, it's a bit tricky with the repair of the motorhome. If we get it in the middle of winter, it will be super complicated for us ... It was our last motorhome weekend, and then we should have driven it to winter storage ... Yes, you must come to the fair and say hello! Now it's still time to meet!? 🙂
Husisblog, we have been told that FREEDOM is indoors in the garage where they work, so it should be warm and cosy enough, we hope. No, getting the motorhome out in the middle of winter will be a problem in itself ...
Lena, we haven't heard any prizes yet so we just have to hope. Spain sounds like a nice place to go in February 🙂 .
Inga M, it sounds super nice to take a longer turn on occasion and maybe stop by! Who knows? 🙂
Åsa in Åsele, we haven't received any price information yet so we can only hope, we have no idea ...
Rantamor, if there had been a fire in the cables first, the insurance would apparently have applied ... but now it was the windscreen wiper motor that burned first and took the cables with it - and then it was apparently a completely different situation. Then the insurance apparently does not apply ... Of course you get attached to your motorhome! PS. I'm already a night pee, but so far I manage the crawling 😉.
Matts, it's good that we don't need the campervan this winter. I'm actually most worried about having to pick it up in winter weather. Don't know what we'll do then...
Deciree, right? One wonders if they have forgotten about it ... 🙁
