The night before last it was time for Christmas dinner with my (Helena's) colleagues. Usually my colleagues don't want traditional Christmas food, and also three out of eight are vegetarians, so this year it was Lebanese Christmas dinner. Not against me if you say so!
Awesome Lebanese Christmas table
Lebanese food is one of my absolute favourites, and the food at the Lebanon Meza Lounge on Hamngatan in Stockholm was really good. The food was served on the table, on lots of small plates and bowls.
First came a whole bunch of cold meze: hummus, baba ghanouj, olive paste, chicken paste with pickled cucumber, feta cheese, goat cheese balls, okra in tomato sauce, vine leaf dumplings, thin slices of beef fillet and lots more. Then came all the hot meze: halloumi, spinach and mince pies, cheese-filled filo pastry rolls, falafel, chicken wings, lamb sausage, calamari, giant prawns...
But was it over there? No, it was time for the barbecue! We were served grilled chicken, fillet of beef, jacket potatoes and small gratinated bread. Among other things. And let's not forget the desserts of course! Now it was time for sweet baklawa, pieces of melon and other fruit and several different super good puddings.
Half would have sufficed
The Lebanon Meza Lounge is really cosy and the food is fantastic, so I can definitely recommend going there. The Christmas table includes very many different dishes and it is safe to say that we couldn't finish them.
Wondering what happens to all the food that is left over? The fact that so much food is thrown away in all restaurants, especially now at Christmas time, does not feel good and something should really be done about it! If you want to try the awesome Lebanese food, I promise that the regular tasting menus will be just fine!
Have you eaten any Christmas dinner this year - and have you tried any other Christmas dinner than the traditional one? What is your favourite type of Christmas dinner?
Lena - good for the soul says:
I have also had a Lebanese Christmas dinner once. It was really good. Then I have eaten Lebanese food later on and I definitely like it. A little lighter food in a way. Even if, as you say, you are really full.
The Christmas table here at home will be traditionally Swedish.

That looked very tasty and completely to my liking!
Yes, I have eaten a traditional Christmas dinner this year. The best is on Christmas Eve, at my eldest daughter's house in Dalsland.
And you can't eat more than just - full 😉 .
Christmas hugs ♥

We have eaten there a few times, delicious!

So good! Really good! I have visited Lebanon Meza Lounge a few times and since I also like the Lebanese food, they have been nice visits. But I have never tried a Lebanese Christmas table, but I think many of the dishes here are served all year round (which I appreciate).
I have eaten a very good Swedish Christmas table at Karlslund's gerrrgård outside Örebro and there were also lots of different vegetarian dishes as well.
But Swedish Christmas food is basically eaten all year round, but is not called Christmas food. It is probably only the lutefisk that is special at Christmas.
Here it will be Thai food on Christmas Eve because no Christmas is celebrated here. (Except that I will make a Jansson, a little tradition to make it right here.)

Lena, nice that you also like Lebanese! Now there was so much food that it did not feel so easy haha, but if nothing else, there are significantly more vegetarian dishes than on the Swedish Christmas table!
Geddfish, it's true - you can't eat more than full. It was soooo good this Christmas table, but in the end you are so full that you can't have any more anyway 😉.
Lennart, glad you've been there too and like it! 🙂
Ditte, yes the dishes on the Lebanese "Christmas table" are probably served all year round. I just simply understood that there were more dishes than usual. Of course, much of the Swedish Christmas food is also eaten all year round. The special thing is that you eat everything at once, haha. Some things I almost never eat otherwise, Janssons and Christmas ham with mustard for example. You will surely have a nice Christmas with Thai food! 🙂

Biggeros says:
Lebanese cuisine has a lot to offer. I visited a restaurant in Uppsala with good small dishes. Does it suit my taste? It's a shame though that so much food is thrown away. Considering so many people can't eat their fill. It should be taken seriously and the food that is left over should be saved and donated to those in need. Especially at Christmas
Have a wonderful Christmas holiday???

Oh! How nice!! Not a single Christmas dinner with work in sight for me ?

Cattis says:
So very good, love meze but would have liked to add some more Greek meze as well so it would have been perfect (very many similar dishes). This year I have only eaten Swedish Christmas table but would have replaced it with meze Christmas table any day if I could choose!? must remember this place next time I am in Sthlm.

It was given to us by work, talk about a bummer. But how good... And how much food, how can they eat so much...?
You have time for Christmas food anyway...
Merry Christmas on your...

I love Lebanese food so I would love to try a Lebanese Christmas table.
This year, as usual, it will be a Swedish Christmas table, although nowadays it is vegetarian.

Veiken says:
I could easily replace the Swedish Christmas table with the Lebanese one.
We were supposed to stay in the same place as Ditte over Christmas, but that didn't happen this year.
We eat Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve. That will have to do....

Biggeros, yes, in general there should be less waste. There is a lot of talk about thinking about it at home, but what about restaurants?
Anja, it was very nice! 🙂 Hope there will be some private nice Christmas table for you then! 🙂
Kattis, I don't really know about Greek meze, but it sounds good too! And absolutely, this place was a highlight! 🙂
Aila, yes, but isn't it? When we eat Lebanese food ourselves, we usually order a tasting menu, but a little smaller and without the grilled dishes, they are usually not needed 😉.
Steve, yes, you would certainly have liked this, and Lebanese cuisine offers many vegetarian dishes. The Swedish Christmas table would also benefit from a little more green 😉.
Veiken, sorry you didn't get away, but hope you have a really nice Christmas here at home!

We work so much that I miss going out for Christmas dinner. Ideally, I would like to go to Ulriksdal, a place I love. Tomorrow we will eat together all of us at work. Eat and feel good.

Talk about eating not only with your stomach but with your eyes as well. Incredibly delicious and I also love Lebanese food. Have eaten it a number of times, but never as a Christmas dinner. Oh if the portions were too big for you then it was just asking for doggy bags really. Then you and Peter would have had at least one more Christmas meal;-)
I had Christmas dinner a week ago, but it was nowhere near yours, I can tell you.

Comsi Comsa, we wish you a Merry Christmas!
Matts, hope you have a nice dinner at work together tomorrow!
By golly, falafel is good! And it's never too late to discover new things 😉.
BP, it's important to eat with your eyes too, I think 😉.

Sounds yummy! Meze is just soooo good. 🙂
I have not eaten a single Christmas table and it does not bother me... it is quite enough with Christmas food on Christmas itself for me hehe. But it would be nice to have a different Christmas table like this Lebanese one!
Merry Christmas world's best you!!!

Yummy, it looks so good! 🙂 You get tired of the Swedish/Finnish Christmas table quite easily, so I don't want to eat it so many times during Christmas. About twice, I think it's enough... 😉 But there are always so many leftovers that you can eat it for several days anyway 😀.
