On Sunday we were in Warsaw and then we only had time to go home and sleep a few hours before it was time to drive round trip Stockholm - Gävle. There are sudden changes now! The reason for our trip to Gävle is that I (Helena) have applied for a job there. I'll tell you more of course, and we take the opportunity to show some pictures from the beautiful winter road. We have winter and snow in Stockholm now too, but it is even more winter when you drive north!
Short stopover at home
We came home from Warsaw at 23:30 on Sunday night and only had time for tea and a sandwich before it was time to sleep. On Monday morning we got up at 06:00. I had a job interview and my lovely husband volunteered to be the driver.
Wanted Job as a lecturer
I am looking for a job because my employment at KI is limited in time and ends at the end of January. There are possible opportunities for extension, but it is usually a few months at a time and is uncertain, so I am also looking for other job opportunities.
Yes, Gävle is a little bit too far from Stockholm! The reason I am still applying is because the job as a lecturer in public health science at Gävle University, specialising in qualitative methods, suits me very well. Such jobs pop up in general never up. For it to be reasonable, good agreements on working hours, opportunities to work from home and so on are of course required. I will have to think about this further!
That's how long I can tell you that applying for a lectureship is exhausting. First I had to give a half-hour trial lecture to a group of expert professors and associate professors who had travelled there from other universities, and only after that was there an interview. Phew!
Many hours on a beautiful winter road
It is 17 kilometres between Stockholm and Gävle and normally it takes about 1.5 hours one way. Yesterday there was winter weather and the journey took more like two hours in each direction. Round trip Stockholm - Gävle was four hours. Luckily we had a beautiful winter landscape, a full moon and a blood red sky to rest our eyes on.

We had the same sky here at home. Looked like it was burning:) I really hope you get the job if you want it.... but will you commute every day? Warm luck to Helena. Keep your fingers crossed for sweet you 🙂 Hugs

Lennart, glad you like the pictures! It was incredibly beautiful!
Britt-Marie, thank you!
Deciree, it is too far to commute every day. In that case, it's a matter of commuting some days of the week and working at home on others. Or an overnight apartment. Or other solutions. I would like to have the job itself, but it's all about finding a practical solution. And I have other interesting jobs going on as well, so so far it's very uncertain.

Nice pictures, a magical sky.
So it's about as far between Stockholm - Gävle as we have from Åsele to Umeå... I've never actually thought about that 🙂 .
Good luck and I hope everything can be resolved for the best.

Across the board says:
Gävle - my old home town. Nice place and you can certainly put the houseboat in the harbour which is centrally located 😀.
The only negative thing about the city is that they have a buck that burns up (or down) as fast as it can 😉.
Good luck!

Henny says:
The job you applied for in Gävle sounds exciting. It would probably be interesting and rewarding. Is there no train between the capital and Gävle? If so, you might be able to work - or relax - while travelling.

Anette Åhnbrink says:
What pictures! The moon! In other words, things are going well now! It is nice in Gävle, and of course it takes two hours up and down, but as you say, it can be solved, the motorhome is good to live in! How is Freedom doing by the way?
Happy Lucia to you, from someone who can't find a job...

admin says:
Åsa in Åsele, is it the same distance? Interesting!
Crisscross, haha, yes it would be something to move with the boat! 😉
Henny, yes there are trains, and also buses. So working on the road can definitely be a possibility!
Anette, funny that you like the pictures, even though we took them through the car window while travelling 😉 The moon was magical! Freedom is left in Kristinehamn and not repaired yet (think they would order some part). Sad that you do not find work! Hugs

Ditte says:
How exciting! Fingers crossed!
I have travelled to Gävle a few times this autumn and the train has worked perfectly. But unfortunately, things don't always go as planned and you want to be on time for a job interview.
Hopefully this will work out! Seems to be an exciting and fun job and provides more security than a fixed-term contract.
I understand from friends at KI that associate professorships don't exactly grow on trees.
Good luck!

Exciting! Good luck with your job application Helena!
But commuting 4 hours a day doesn't work as you say.
I think Kors Och Tvers's idea to move the boat to Gävle was a very good idea 🙂.

The pictures are really great! It was then a heavenly luck that it was nice weather yesterday. Good timing there!
The job offer is great! Is it the job that Peter told you about? So the one you were headhunted for? The distance is a bit far to commute, but remote work is "in" so it might work.
I am convinced that you will get the job. Then you have to think about whether you want to take it...

Cattis says:
Yes, it's lucky you had some beautiful views because the E4 Gävle-Sthlm is usually not too fun to drive for the brain. I hope the interview went well and if so, I wish you welcome to my hometown and old school. A nice college that partly educated me to the engineer and project manager I am today!:)

It was a different kind of job interview. This idea has never occurred to my male owner, even though he has interviewed some future employees in his days...
But a big good luck from me and my owners!

Ditte, it was nice to go by car (and have company!) now that we got home late the night before. Otherwise, a train might be better! No, lectureships don't grow on trees, and I've hardly heard of one with a qualitative focus before.
Lena, yes the university world is a world of its own... 😉.
Anna, thank you! The job seems exciting, but it's a long journey...
Znogge, thank you!
Frank Olsen, haha, yes, or maybe we can move the motorhome to Gävle? 😉
Christine, thank you!
JoY, thanks and glad you like our pictures! The sky was really photogenic 🙂
BP, no the job Peter told me about is another one ... which is also very exciting! So we'll see how it all ends ... 😉.
Kattis, oh is this your home town and old college? What fun! 🙂 Glad to hear that you liked the college!
Anette, thank you!
Steve, thanks, we'll see how it goes! 😉
Solan, glad you are in Valencia! It's a nice city! Although I guess it's quieter there now than during Las Fallas 😉 What is your temperature?
Geddfish, please! 🙂
Cathinka, thank you!
Husisblogg, yes the university world has its own and strict variants, haha ... 😉 Thank you very much! Freedom will hopefully get better soon, but is still in the workshop ...

What great pictures. Usually it is the forest that obscures, you sit on the wrong side of the car, oncoming traffic, no place to stop, difficult to take pictures and drive at the same time. Hope you succeed as well with the job, if you feel like it.

Answer: Perfect to be popular in the labour market!!! If you can pick and choose among offers - great! Just keep in mind that you want to travel a lot too. Is it possible to combine?! Of course it can! It is you who decides the conditions, especially if you are as sought after as you are!!!! Good luck !!!!

admin says:
4000 miles, yes, good to know! 🙂
Matts, I probably took about 60 photos to get a few ... It's exactly as you say!
BP, yes, that's exactly what we think about and talk about a lot. It's not very easy to combine ... In the first place, I have to use holidays in combination with public holidays to travel. We have to have a full-time income to get by financially, so it's hard to do it any other way ... as far as I know 😉.

Inga Magnusson says:
What an exciting job search. And it seems to be an exciting job too. It sounds special to do a trial lecture in connection with the interview. I hope you knew about it beforehand and could prepare yourself. It reminds me a bit of the old days of applications to teacher training programmes, when the applicant had to give a trial lecture before admission. I remember someone not getting in because the seam on a sock was crooked. Ha ha.... guess it was only men who decided that. But I hope that stocking seams are not judged when you give a trial lecture.

admin says:
Linda, thank you very much!
Petra, Sweden can be nice in the winter! The interview went well, but this is a slow process, and I've applied for another job as well, so we'll see what happens...
Inga M, interesting to know that it was like that in teacher training programmes in the past! Of course I had prepared myself! The academic world is a bit traditional and especially when you apply for a lectureship (which involves a lot of teaching), it is common to do a test lecture ...
