Christian Muda is a travel blogger with a special interest in food experiences while travelling. When you read his blog, Food and travel blog, takes you to restaurants and cooking experiences around Sweden and the world. They range from exclusive luxury restaurants to simple street food, and sometimes they even experiment in the kitchen at home in Stockholm.
We asked Christian to share his favourite food countries and his best tips for finding good food while travelling. However, sometimes you don't have to travel so far for a good food experience. Stockholm is one of Christian's favourite cities when it comes to food and today he also shares his best tips for restaurants in our own capital.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your family?
I come from Norrköping and moved to Stockholm in 1999. Here I met Jenny, who I am now married to, and we have two children aged 8 and 11. I work as a marketing manager at a finance company and work on the blog in the evenings and weekends.
How did your interest in food and travelling start? Did one interest come before the other?
Definitely the interest in travelling before the interest in food. When I was a young man travelling by train in Europe or backpacking in Asia, the goal was to spend as little as possible on food when travelling. The interest in food as part of the travelling experience only came at the age of 25 when I started working after my studies and could afford to spend more money on food. But I have always been interested in food and cooked a lot.
What is your favourite food country in Europe and why?
I haven't travelled enough and tried enough restaurants in Europe yet to have just one favourite country, but Spain is a good choice. Interesting cuisine and restaurants in all price ranges, from simple pincho restaurants to michelin restaurants.
What is your favourite food country outside Europe and why?
I love Japan and Japanese food, so it's probably my favourite country. There is everything from perfect steaks and sashimi, to ramen and simpler but flavourful dishes. But, at the same time, there is no country right now that beats Stockholm and even here you can find great Japanese food.
What are your best tips for finding good restaurants when travelling?
- Ask friends via social channels. For example, when we were recently in Miami, one of my Instagram followers told me about a great crab restaurant that turned out to be one of the most famous in Miami.
- Ask people you meet there for tips on good restaurants.
- Choose a restaurant that is crowded. If you can't get a table there, ask a guest about another good restaurant.
Can you recommend three good restaurants in Stockholm - in three different price ranges?
Lyx: Tasting menu at Adam & Albin. A fantastic 5-course menu that can be extended to 9 courses.
Between: Little Ego. Always fully booked, but there are 12 drop-in seats at the bar where you also have a perfect view into the kitchen.
BudgetThe best budget tip is to book via the site Thefork.se, which I have a partnership with. There you can book a table with up to 50 % discount on the food at many different restaurants, such as the new tapas restaurant. Alegria which we tried recently - great tapas!
What are your immediate travel plans?
I'm going to Hamburg for a weekend in January and Lech in Austria for the sports holidays.
Have you ever celebrated Christmas abroad?
Yes, several times. When I studied in the US for a year, I chose to stay in the US for the Christmas holidays and travel instead of going home like many others did. On Christmas Day we had Christmas dinner in Las Vegas. Another time we went on a three-month trip to Asia and celebrated Christmas in Thailand. But for the last 10 years we have celebrated Christmas at home in Sweden, mainly because my wife really wants to celebrate Christmas at home!
Finally, a question we ask everyone we interview: What is your dream destination?
It is actually travelling back to Japan. Loved that country and would love to go back and see more of it.
Thank you Christian Muda for sharing your experiences and thoughts!

Nice to have a combined food and travel element. Japan is still waiting for us but I have eaten Japanese food quite often in Beijing and it is liked. And fun with Spain because there is a lot of most things and at reasonable prices. Funny that Stockholm is also highlighted and a couple of the restaurants here I have tried but they have now become so popular that you can no longer be sopntan when visiting but have to book weeks in advance if you are a group. But it's fun for the pubs of course.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

Those of us who live in France must, of course, emphasise this great food country. I don't think we are alone in this either. There's just about everything and in all price ranges. Even sushi restaurants are starting to appear. Funny enough, all Swedes down here say that the worst thing about Spain, which is close, is the food!!! Personally, Japanese food is also a favourite and it is the only type of restaurant we go to when we are in Sweden! Fortunately, the taste is like .... Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel to you both from the sunny and nineteen degrees warm Provence!!!

After all, food makes up at least 50 per cent of a successful holiday. So Christian's 'priorities' are spot on. And just like him, I love the variety of Spanish cuisine and I'm incredibly fond of Japanese dishes.
Merry Christmas to you too!

Ditte, wishing you a Merry Christmas too! For our part, we can say that we are very curious about Japan. As for Spain, we also like it as a food country, even if we find the level uneven.
Inger, thank you so much for your kind words! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Liniztravel, Merry Christmas!!!
Anonymous, if you ask us, we also choose France as the number one food country. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
BP, we also think that food is a big and important part of a trip! We like Japanese food in Sweden, so it would be interesting to try it in Japan too!
Big THANK YOU Christian for being a guest and sharing your tips and experiences! Wishing you a nice Christmas holiday and a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays.
Despite all the failed restaurant visits in France, it is probably the most exciting cuisine for us. Especially the pastries.

Anonymous above is of course Monet. Right now we have so much trouble with computers and iPads and phones and hacked passwords that we are well in line with your technology stress just on that. But I understood that you also think that France is the best food country, remember it from when you ranked your European trip. Would you like to know what Matts has experienced as unsuccessful restaurant visits? It's often difficult if you don't know French. Restaurant French is hopelessly difficult and you risk getting something you didn't expect. Could that be it? Mon

Matts, thank you! I vaguely remember you being dissatisfied at some point, was it with how red the meat should be or not? We have never been dissatisfied in France actually, but of course it can happen there too.
Monet, I almost suspected it was you, but wasn't quite sure. France is one of the few countries where we've almost never been dissatisfied with the food, but I guess it can happen there too. We almost never experience language as a problem when travelling. But iofs we eat everything, so if there would be a small misunderstanding somewhere in an order, it is not a big problem for us 😉.
