So, how good and nice can it be to go out to eat one evening? Last Saturday we joined Peter's eldest son Robin and his wife Alexandra, as well as Robin's mum, sister and sister's boyfriend, at a tapas restaurant in Stockholm. It was an evening of heavenly tapas, mango daquiris, juggling bottles and of course lots of talking and laughing.
A pleasant evening
We had no special reason to meet and celebrate, but on Saturday Robin thought the family should meet and go out to eat. We started with a little mingling at Robin and Alexandra's house, walked to Scandic Haymarket for a drink, and then proceeded to Aqui Tapas & Bar on Kammakargatan. Alexandra had been there before and talked warmly about both the food and their Mango daiquiri. Of course we wanted to try it too!
Heavenly tapas
At Aqui there is a long menu with different tapas dishes, and it can be reasonable to order about three per person. Since we were a slightly larger party, we could instead order their ready-made tasting menu, for 300 SEK/person.
When it was time for the staff to bring in the food, they asked us to remove all personal items from the table and move the glasses to the far corner of each seat. And soon we realised why: it was very food to be served!
Everything was delicious, but if we had to pick a few favourites, it would have to be these. bacon-wrapped dates and the gratinated goat cheese on toast with honey. Mmmm! But there was also nothing wrong with the grilled halloumi cheese, the marinated chicken wings, the grilled rack of lamb or the garlic fried prawns.
And then there was the wheat tortilla with cheese and vegetables, the fried potatoes and the plate of Spanish charcuterie, olives and manchego cheese. To name just a few examples...
Nice atmosphere
The best thing about Aqui was probably the comfortable, relaxed and almost familiar atmosphere. The staff were cheerful and chatty and always checked if there was anything we wanted. If you're seated so you can see the bar (which I was), you can also be entertained by... juggling bottles!
We can definitely recommend a visit here, but be sure to book a table well in advance. Even though we booked in advance, we didn't get a table until 21:00 in the evening. Do you like tapas? Do you have a favourite tapas place?
Ditte says:
Good morning! Nice to wake up to this! Truly enticing in every way.Have only heard of Aqui&Tapas and it is on my list to visit. And even more so after your post. I like to eat tapas often when we are in Spain.
It's nice to see everyone and go out to eat. And tapas is always right.
I have often gone to the Boquerian in Moodgallerian. Mondo Tapas at Observatireilunden and a favourite is Tapas Vinbar- Valvet at Slussen. An old house with cosy vaults, good tapas and a lovely environment.
I have also visited Stockholm Tapas, but I think the quality there varies and it is very crowded between the tables, at least at their restaurant on Kungsholmen.
I return when I get to Aqui.

Looked delicious!!! The only place I have eaten tapas in Stockholm is STHLM Tapas and it was good the time I was there and then I have eaten it at a place called Tilltugg in Uppsala and it was probably slightly better. 😀 Like small picking food when you get many different flavours 🙂.

Ditte, absolutely, feel free to go there on occasion! 🙂 And thanks for more tips on tapas places! We have passed the Boquerian a few times and it looks good and nice, but it does not feel like you should go there when you are too hungry, but more when you want a snack for the drink!?
Lena, we usually make bacon-wrapped dates at home sometimes too, and then we also put an almond inside. Tasty 🙂
Diana's dreams, a favourite for us too!
Lennart, I imagine you have a few places to choose from! 🙂
Alexandra, picking food is great! Both tapas and Lebanese meze are a favourite for us!

Tapas are very good. We tried the chain Pinchos in late autumn and it was also very good. Pinchos has a slightly different concept, where you sit at the table and order via an app on your phone (about new technology in the previous post).

But how good it looked there:) Nice to be able to go out all like that and socialise and eat well. 🙂

But, my goodness, so good! I love all the wonderful ingredients you list!
Of course, in Stockholm there is a large selection, but I can certainly find tapas in Lidköping.
What a nice family evening! 😀

Oh how good it sounds! I would love to eat more tapas, but I miss places that have lots of both lacto-ovo-vegetarian and vegan options.

Looked very good on that table!
Soon we will be eating it in Spain 🙂

Tapas are sooo good and nice! And those really looked absolutely superb 🙂 Fun also to be able to gather the whole family like that and have a nice evening. Not everyone who can do it in those constellations. Heavenly fun!
Tapas ... Now I got really hungry! Just wondering if you can find any tapas here where I am? 😉

Tapas are always right. We recently ended our walking days along the Costa Brava with an evening at the village pub with tapas. The bill consisted of various "sticks" and flags that were attached to the dishes and the wine list was simply "red or white". Incredibly tasty and flavourful. We have tried to recreate some of the delicacies at home, with varying results.....
Now we have received several tips on good places in Stockholm!

Of course it's delicious! Plus, it's a really nice way to eat. Right now, the tapas concept seems to be catching on. In little Karlstad alone, a number of such restaurants have opened in recent years and they are super popular.

What a nice family group!!!!
The food - A bit overwhelming. What did my stomach say about getting
so many different things in ONE sitting? 🙂
(does not like dates in any form)

BP says:
Absolutely LOVE tapas:-) It is what you live on when you are in Spain. But I have never actually visited a tapas place here in Stockholm, even though our local restaurant offers tapas for AW every day after 3 o'clock.
Very incredibly appetising food you show. The food photos are absolutely stunning and make me drool.
Like Ruth, I also dislike dates. Ruth and I seem to have a lot in common... not just an interest in football;-)

Yummy, so many good things. Everything looks fantastic.
Nice to have some entertainment from the bar as well.

Oh how good, I really like tapas in all its forms... When we were in Spain, I lived largely on tapas:-). Can really recommend a great place in Vasastan Jim & Jacob as they serve super good sliders with a Swedish touch. They won the Stockholm Prize 2016.

Biggeros says:
Looks really good!!! I am used to different types of tapas restaurants. It is always fun to try new dishes. I like most things and if there is something on the menu that I can't decipher, it will be a surprise. Here tapas is cheap and good and also drinkable. Thanks for the tip on the restaurant?

Criss-cross, interesting! I had never heard of the Pinchos chain or the concept of ...
Deciree, very nice! 🙂
Geddfish, the choice is of course greater here, but surely Lidköping can come up with a tapas restaurant? 😉
Annie, they were quick to offer a vegetarian option, but vegan might be harder to get...?
Rolle and Carina, wonderful! The right environment too 🙂
Ama de casa, haha, wonder if you can find some tapas there in Spain...? 😉
Anonymous, we also tend to get inspired abroad or in a restaurant and then try to cook ourselves. Sometimes it turns out well, and sometimes not 😉.
Marina, nice that there are more tapas restaurants around the country! I like this way of eating, really no matter if it's Spanish or Lebanese or Asian... 🙂 ).
Ruth in Virginia, there was no one who went hungry from there if you say so ... It was a little too much, but not so hysterically much too much. There wasn't much left on the plates when we were done 😉.
BP, but of course you have to try the tapas at the local haket!!!! 🙂
Anette, yes I was looking in that direction and had a show on and off 😉.
Petra, oh thanks for the tips! I don't even know what sliders are...? 😉
Biggeros, new dishes are fun! And even better if it's not too expensive! 😉

Matts Torebring says:
Wow, that sounds good. The only problem for me is that I choose a place where I know I can park the car. Then it will be a smorgasbord at Ulriksdal or a festive dinner at Villa Källhagen. There I can park my motorhome or car in both places and eat in peace and quiet.

What a lovely tapas restaurant. I love tapas, but now of course the selection has been somewhat limited as I no longer eat meat. But, what does it matter as I am no longer out and about. It can be a pleasure just to watch.

Ninny says:
Mmm, it looks so yummy!!! Tapas are so good!
Eating out is always nice. We actually treat ourselves to it often, almost every Friday we end the work week with a restaurant visit... It's so nice to just sit down and eat, not have to cook and wash dishes and so on Friday night. Mostly it's just me and my husband, but sometimes we have company with us. Since we do it often, it will of course not be in the most expensive places, but expensive does not always have to be equal to good...!

Matts, Ulriksdal or Villa Källhagen does not sound wrong either! 🙂
Husisblog, just don't forget to book in advance if you're going there, because it's popular! 😉
Steve, tapas probably works great if you're a vegetarian too! They asked if anyone in the party was a vegetarian, and if that had been the case, there would have been a few more vegetarian dishes.
Ninnie, how nice to end each week with a restaurant visit! And going out to eat is a luxury in itself, even if it's not a particularly expensive restaurant.

Meeting and socialising while eating/drinking is never wrong.
Lots of food and you can never leave hungry 😉 .
Tapas are not something I usually eat,
tapas are rarely if ever served in the eateries I visit,
I don't think tapas are really a rural thing 😉.

...if I like tapas? Soon the bikes will roll into Seville from the car park. Two tapas in everybody's mouth will fill you up right here. A tapas can look like anything and be very different in size. But always good, olé!

WHAT wonderful!!! I want to go there the next time I'm home in Stockholm.
Yes, I like tapas. Very much so. It's also the perfect food when you're in a large group of people, chatting and chatting.

Åsa in Åsele, haha, no we were NOT hungry afterwards! And hope the tapas comes to the sparsely populated area soon 🙂
Znogge, agree! And this was a great place 🙂 .
Solan, nice to hear from you! And great to have tapas within "haying distance" 🙂 ðŸ™'
Annika, I think you should definitely do that! Agree, so much nice food to socialise around 🙂
