Skiing in Alpbachtal in Austria

We are, as you may know, on a ski trip and yesterday we went to the major lift systems here in Alpbachtal in Austria. After yesterday's soft launch we ventured straight up to the top and even Beata, who had never skied before, joined us. The view up there was of course fantastic! And how did it go? We offer a post with many pictures from our trip from the top and down to the valley.

Great views from the top

We took a cable car up to the top and Beata, who had only had one day to practise on the family hill, said "there's no turning back now". No, you have to get down somehow! But we started by enjoying the fantastic view. Although it was a bit cloudy, it is a dizzying and completely magical feeling to be on an alpine peak, 2000 metres above sea level.

Slow journey downwards

Alpbachtal in Austria has a large ski area with lots of different pistes and lifts. The slopes are blue, red or black and there are also specific slopes for those who want to snowboard or 'play' with moguls and special courses.

We made sure to choose blue and red runs and took it slow, mainly for Beata's sake. But honestly, it was quite nice to just glide down at a leisurely pace and enjoy the view. We also made a stop at one of the many bars/restaurants on the slopes to rest our legs and enjoy a beer.

Skiing in Alpbachtal in Austria

It is clear that we are a bit rusty when it comes to skiing, but it works. Even Beata managed to get down, even though she had to make long turns and take many breaks (and sometimes fall over).

I made my worst fall in the lift queue on the first day, and then once yesterday when I was about to start and accidentally hit my own pole. Peter has also made a few falls, and I actually managed to capture one of them in a photo... To summarise: a really lovely day in the middle of the mountains. skiing in Alpbachtal in Austria!

Restaurants on the slopes

When your legs get tired (and I promise you they will!), you can stop at one of the many restaurants on the slopes. Here you can warm up with some gluhwein, or why not a beer and a Tyrolean soup with dumplings?

Reith im Alpbachtal

We live in a cosy little ski resort called Reith im Alpbachtal. Here you can stroll among cosy Austrian wooden houses, while looking up at the mighty Alps. Here you can also sample local delicacies such as cheese, marmalade, 'fruit syrup' and brandy.
