Caravan Stockholm 2017 is over and we think it has been a lot of fun. There will be some camping posts during the week and I (Peter) also sit with the lectures that we have recorded. They will be edited and posted on Youtube and on the blog if the website can handle it. We all have our more or less favourites in the motorhome or caravan world, and we found two motorhome favourites if we could choose.
Table of contents
2 motorhome favourites
We asked ourselves at the fair what we would choose if we had a few million. All the luxury goes away because we don't want to be travelling around in a 5* hotel. Where did the basic idea of camping go? If we had a big luxurious car, we wouldn't even have seen half of it on our trip around Europe.
They shouldn't be too long because it limits accessibility and it should be functional. A motorhome with a big screen with GPS, a really good router, a lithium battery, preferably four-wheel drive, high ground clearance and a water purifier. This is how we see camping life.
No 1: Euro Mobil Terrestra A
This motorhome is under 6 metres, high ground clearance and double floor. It has a double bed in the alcove and a U-shaped sofa at the back. You can make a bed for more people around the sofa and there is one weekend per year, so for us it is perfect. It's just a bit pricey at almost 800 ooo kronor for a very small motorhome.
Photo with Nikon 360 camera. Spin around the motorhome by holding down the mouse button and dragging around. Press the square at the bottom right to get full screen. With your smartphone, spin yourself around to get all the angles.
No 2: La Strada Regent s
This is a motorhome with four-wheel drive. The interior is a bit boring, but it gets you there. Now it was 1 million.
Our favourite from Elmia
Swift Toscane 640 HB. So much included and smart solutions in a small car. 659,000 is very affordable and this one is still our favourite. You can control a lot via your smartphone, extra safety features, open the tailgate and be in nature. Micro, four plates and oven are standard. High ground clearance and big tyres.
Motorhome brands
We don't have any favourite brands among motorhomes, but we've noticed that quite a few do, and it's a bit like football clubs. A bit like us and them.
What we also do in our caravans is that we drive around with advertising! Would we ever drive around in a Volvo with big stickers on the bonnet and tailgate that said Volvo in big letters? I don't think so, but suddenly motorhomes are ok. Why is this happening? Please write and explain because whatever motorhome I buy in the future, the stickers will go, or they will have to pay for the advertising.
Across the board says:
The Swift was really smart! It can certainly be a good travelling companion for many adventurous trips. In terms of brands, we are now on our third brand. The brand for us is not important, but the motorhome should match our "wish list" of what we need and want. So it is not at all certain that it will be the same brand the next time we change motorhome.
Advertising - a scourge really. The last car we had was "marked" with the dealer's logo above the windscreen, in the back and on the number plates. We were not at all happy with the company and therefore removed this as we did not want to advertise them at all. This car we have now, we told the seller not to put anything on it. We also do not want stickers from clubs etc even if we are members. Not because we are ashamed but because it does not look good on the car.

Lennart says:
Those of us who live in the motorhome most of the year need space, real wardrobes and showers for example!

Alexandra says:
It was fun to meet you again on Sunday and how good you were on stage? My favourite was clearly Hymer Ayers Rock, it really suited us perfectly! But unfortunately, it is not a good time to commit to a large loan right now.... from this summer I will be on leave from my regular job to start my own company in dietary counselling and then you want to sit with too high overheads. ?

Dessan says:
The small motorhomes seem to increase at the fair. That's good, because you can't drive with a larger one further down in Spain etc. A little crowded in the car parks.

Mr Nils-Åke Hansson says:
La Strada is a favourite but expensive. Certainly it is the same as in society in general status thinking. Some people like small things and others like big things, this brand or another.

Johnny Friskilä says:
It was a really elegant kitchen on the last motorhome. I think it would also be my favourite 🙂 Btw, nice to see you yesterday!

Goatfish says:
The last one - the Swift has a divine kitchen, almost nicer than at home 😀.
Advertising for someone you don't know is no fun. I hate sticky notes in general.
Happy Tuesday!

Imelda says:
The Swift looks really nice! Small cars are our melody, you get around everywhere. If you want to stay in a luxury hotel, you take in such a hotel, not really associated with camping life. That's when cruises come into the picture! ?

JoY says:
Definitely not a bigger car for us, we want to be able to get out and about on the smaller roads. We have looked a bit at smaller cars and should there be one at some point, the Swift looks to be an option. We want to have bikes golf stuff and skis with us?
Labels and decals, like on the rims are ok hihihi

Anki says:
I would definitely choose Swift from these - really smart and just the right size 🙂 .

Marina says:
Yes, sometimes you can wonder where "the campsite itself" went...

Peter Bergström says:
Good to hear that I'm not the only one reacting to free advertising. If everyone speaks out, they'll have to lower the price of advertising so that we'll go around with it. Interesting Anette.
Lennart: I understand and I just wrote how we see it ourselves. Of course, everyone has different conditions and everyone wants different things. It's probably lucky, I would say. We had a lot with us when we travelled for a year, but we also came home with 20% that we had never used. It is difficult to pack correctly.
Alexandra: It's really nice to meet in person and thank you for liking what we talked about. Financially, we will not change the car and it has only gone 10,000 kilometres, so it has a long way to go. We have a new design for replastering so we will focus on that, the car is perfectly ok but some small things we need to review. I understand you who want to wait and we only have one income so it will be another year.
Dessan: In several places we were at, ours is almost at the limit, so a smaller one in the future but top 6.5 metres for us.
Nils-Åke Hansson: Sure it is and I wrote what we liked. We are a bit more for adventure and want to find down to completely deserted beaches and bays, as well as a lot of fricampa.
Johnny Friskilä: Hello there! It's always interesting to talk to you because you go to the places we want to experience. A good kitchen means a lot when you like to cook, then the other things are secondary. If you are full and satisfied, you can sleep anyway, otherwise there is wine, haha.
Geddfish: I'll have to contact them and try it for a weekend, because now I'm doing free advertising all the time and that was today's post not to do.
Imelda: I agree but I don't speak for everyone. I can understand those who have a super luxurious motorhome and maybe live in it, and some have crystal chandeliers on the ceiling. They don't have the car to live the camping life because that line has already been crossed. It's a bit strange to see these on a campsite because it's a clash in my head. I also think we've reached the peak because when the next generation comes, they won't want this in their spare time. We will see.
Joy: Haha, we put the marks on the rims, haha. We'll see what happens in a few years and it's important for manufacturers to keep up with the changes because the market is changing very quickly. We have already noticed that small motorhomes in Germany are very big and that alcoves are coming back.

Peter Bergström says:
Anki: Good to hear and it was a shame that they were not at the Kista fair. Swift has taken a step further and offers so much in the basic price and also the security thinking. This will be big in the future.

Anette Åhnbrink says:
The Swift was / is nice, there are several similar models, but they are expensive, this one was affordable in price. I think it is fun that the alcove cars come back, even with smaller models and preferably u-sofa in the back, it is liked! The funny thing in the crow's nest if you look back 15-20 years, is that it was the Germans who were big, both with the most motorhomes and the size of them, that they are now going the other way, I think it is because it is getting crowded out there now, and as pioneers in finding good places to stand on, you have to resort to everything, for our motto when we have travelled in a little odd countries, follow a German, then you know it is good when you arrive! As for advertising, of course it is boring with things you do not want, but if you like us, make something personal and put on, I think it's fun! And just to be anti: it is very possible to be adventurous with an 8.50 long motorhome! Just need to have a good paint shop! But I will probably go to Corsica too, wait and see?/Anette

Ditte says:
Nice reading! I know nothing at all about motorhomes but the Swift seems good if you want to get around most places and I find it hard to see large motorhomes driving around both high up in the Alps and in Sardinia and Corsica.
The kitchen looked very practical and I hope it is wood in the interior and not laminate. Or is it only in boats you prefer wood. I don't know, but laminate feels slightly out of place.
As far as advertising is concerned, I would be reluctant to do it unless I was being paid well and I liked it.

Peter Bergström says:
Anette Åhnbrink: Haha, but not many people think that I have to take a scratch to see something. The cars are getting nicer and nicer. We drove our car down through bushes and large conifers during our long journey that covered the road, but we were going through. We will re-plaster our car a little later so it will be fine, because now it is very scratched. Of course you're going to Corsica which is so nice and anything goes, right! Our car will have to go until the driverless ones arrive because then everything will be completely different.
Ditte: Words and no songs, that's it. Common sense goes a long way, but it also depends on what you want. We see a lot of camper vans in southern Europe and they always have to take big roads and big campsites. We're not going to block ourselves in any way and that's our lifestyle. Others don't want to go for free camping but more to more luxurious campsites and then it's fine with a nice motorhome.

BP says:
I know far too little about motorhomes to comment. But one thing I can say because I've blogged about it myself - Tuscany seems to have a big fridge too, which I think should be a must when camping.
When it comes to advertising, every car has both the logo on the badge and the dealer's name on the licence plate holder. You can hardly get away from that. I don't know if it's the same for motorhomes. This should be enough, because I don't want to drive around as an advertiser ...

Solan says:
There are now motorhomes for all types of people. Good! No. 1 reminds me of our Karmann Gipsy, under 6 metres and a sofa bed. We had it for 24 years. Our current one, a Dethleff of 7.5 m is in its 5th year...Two German motorhomes, then. Advertising...no giant logos and ugly stickers. But no major problem as long as you think the car behaves reasonably well!

Matts Torebring says:
Travelling in a little smaller motorhome would confuse me. I would probably not even make it to Denmark, I would turn around in "Mölletofta". Maybe only to Jönköping. Spacious shower, as now across the entire width of the car, the wardrobes, the garage and all the other niceties.
I've been working for more than 60 years now. Of course I want the best layout when we're travelling, without compromise.

Ama de casa says:
The first one looked undeniably very handy. Quite small and neat. But for that price you get quite a few hotel-camping nights...
But I like the camping life too! Lovely freedom there. But today when we went down from the mountain in the Sierra Nevada, we passed a campsite. Felt no direct desire to live in a tent right then but felt satisfied with the waiting hotel room 😉.
(Yes, yes. I know a motorhome would have worked, but it's not in my camping experience 😉 )

Husis blog says:
The owners have no direct favourite brand when it comes to motorhomes but see different advantages and disadvantages with each one. Right now they drive me, a Dethleffs and are satisfied and the future will show if they change, sell me and maybe not have a motorhome at all anymore. Although this is a horrible thought for the owners...?. They are more used to their car where they have been driving German cars for the last 23 years.
The adverts from the seller are removed immediately. Never got a better price for either car or motorhome for driving around with advertising in the rear window or on the number plate. However, my motorhome brand remains as they do not want to strip the entire car, even though FREEDOM's striping is nice.

Peter Bergström says:
BP: As we don't just want to be on campsites, a good fridge is a must, otherwise it goes away. Advertising on the licence plates is one thing and it's discussed all the time. Then we have the name of the house manufacturer and nobody mentions it. KABE, ADRIA, DETHLEFFS, CARTHAGO, you name it and it's all over the cars on all sides, but nobody talks about them. I'll bring it up.
Solan: The Germans are good at what they do, but now it's time for Volvo to enter the market so we can drive Swedish. Small cars are coming but without a steering wheel, so we'll see if there will be a rear-facing sofa in the front instead.
Matts Torebring: Yes, it's stupid to buy a motorhome if you're only going to Jönköping, haha. You know what you want and you can afford it, which has its advantages. If you've worked for your money all your life, you should be able to live on it too.
Ama de casa: I used to think that way too. I thought about campsites and caravans and the life our friends lived, and I didn't want that. Camping is a must sometimes to go in and wash, fill water, empty, check the car and then go out again. Being able to stay anywhere without booking or knowing where to go appeals to us. FREEDOM!
Husisblog: You must be able to order your motorhome without their logo if you buy a new one. It should not have to say DETHLEFFS all over the car and I call that free advertising. You probably shouldn't close down in the next 5 years because you are needed in the market, right:-).
