We are talking about generation Y and those born between 1980-2000. We start with Generation X, which is from 1960-1980 and was quite easy to control and understand. There were not 1000 different restaurants to choose from. There weren't as many car brands, clothing brands, organic, food choices, entrepreneurship. We became quite easy to understand and we formed into groups and families. A vacuum cleaner salesman knew how to sell by knocking on doors. Try it today, haha. Who are Millennials? Join us!

Who are Millennials?
The children who grew up with keyboards in their hands and who prefer to text rather than call. They are 1.2 million after our baby boom in the 80s. This is the group that marketers want to reach, but they keep getting lost. They are individualists and sub-groups and are heavy users of adblock so no advertising should interfere with their lives.
Values
They grew up with recycling and take it for granted. They really want a better world and when they get older and can influence things, they won't back down. Millennials have also encouraged our older managers to be nicer because here no one takes any crap. If the boss does something wrong, he will hear about it compared to the previous generation who complained about the boss in front of others and went home feeling bad.
This group is not worried about change because they know that everything is changing at a rapid pace. They are not interested in a super luxury car or luxury production at all. Good stuff and a brand that stands for something is hugely important. Ideally, you don't want to own anything but have access to everything.
Power
Youtube is the relaxation for this generation and they want to have fun. To be able to laugh at crazy things that others do and not as a ready-made format from television. These cohorts also have a lot of power, because they can make or break a company in 24 hours through social media. Marketers are therefore very careful about what they say and sell and must stick to the truth. I think they are super cool!
Generation Z
Born between 1996-2012, we will hear more about them in the future and they are pure multi-machines. They move at the speed of light and do many things at the same time. Focusing on one thing is instantly boring. You have 8 seconds to grab their attention or they will move on mentally.
Education and colleges will not be important because it is already old when you finish. They grow up with economic instability and reduced security. They believe in short-term programmes that are timely and relevant to what they want to do.
Other news
- First Camp spent €40 million last year and the same amount this year to upgrade its campsites. Will it be more expensive now? They've invested in newer receptions, cafes, restaurants, playgrounds, adventure golf and state-of-the-art cabins. Are motorhomers interested? I don't think so.
- I'm so tired of Trump that it's not happening, haha.
- In San Francisco, driverless Volvos are currently running in partnership with Uber and development is ongoing.
- Ving is focusing more on Vietnam and the island of Phu Quoc.
- Start-up companies are all the rage. Small companies with innovative ideas are being bought up left and right by big companies so as not to miss out on new ideas.
- Ryan Air breaks new records in January and more people are booking flights. We understand that people live to travel and enrich their lives.
- Now it's your turn. What do you remember and reflect on from this post?

Alexandra says:
Then I am as old as your eldest son. ?
Yes, I definitely think that those of us in our 80s and beyond are generally more "free" in our thinking and view of things. Most things are kind of changeable for us.

Lennart says:
So true, but the question is whether it gets better?

Lena - good for the soul says:
Interesting about the generations. I also think the Ys are really cool. I think we X-ers have a lot to learn from them. As much as we don't want to admit it 🙂 .
Have a great start to the week!

Marina says:
Generation Y is definitely an exciting generation and the description fits very well. As a mother of two "such" (87+89), I can only nod and smile. No Jantel laws do not apply here...;)
"Not owning anything but having access to everything", so much the head on the nail! A wonderful generation and sometimes I wish I had been one of them (although I feel pretty good as an X too), what opportunities there are today, absolutely fantastic!

Jenn - forever abroad says:
Generation Z yes, now you are no longer the latest generation on this earth.... However, the attention of 8 seconds felt like a long time, think more like 2-3, haha 😉.

Ama de casa says:
Things may not have been better in the past, but they were probably simpler. Not as much to choose from or pick and choose between. Became difficult enough for me when there were TWO channels on the TV! Haha! 😀

Peter Bergström says:
Alexandra: Changes are difficult for the older generation. Data can be difficult and we don't really want to ask for help, and then when we get it, the younger generation teaches too quickly, so they don't remember everything that was done. I have friends who complain about this, and my tip is to record everything on your phone when you get help and then go back and look at what you did. If you understand changes, it's easier for everyone, and that's the problem.
Lennart: I myself wondered from 2000-2010 where this will end. Now I really think it will get better and I look forward to the times to come.
Lena - Good for the soul: Hi Lena! I couldn't agree more and I love hanging out with this gen Y. Their minds are so unrestrained, and they utilise all the resources available to them. A bit un-Swedish but damn effective. Kraaaamar.
Jenn - Forever abroad: Haha! At best, you get 8 seconds. They really are rockets and you've been bypassed, haha.
Haha AMA DE CASA! Aftonbladet or Expressen was also a difficult choice, haha. Of course it's easier to choose between two channels, but much more boring. It was also dangerous because it is one-way information. Lost in the pancake was a hidden communist idea that was passed on to children, I think. I firmly believe in the new era that is coming and I am very optimistic. The next generation will do a very good job for everyone.

Peter Bergström says:
Marina: I'm glad I've thrown computers and phones at my children as a basis, because we will get them back. We are entering the digital age and they have to be part of it. Many people said that we spoilt our children with the latest computers and now we should be happy about it. Sweden and the US are the leading players in the world today, creating new companies and new ideas all the time. Just sit back and hand over, because they will do a great job. We laid the foundation and they analyse and optimise everything for the better. This generation doesn't think about money, they want to create something good, and I like that.

Mr Steve says:
As I read this, the future looks really bright again.
06 February 2017 - 13:39
BP says:
I agree with Steve, even if the technological development is way too fast for me. Not really keeping up with it;-)
The latter annoys me to no end, given that Trump churns out up to nine tweets a day that infuriate the whole world. Haven't sent a single tweet yet - oooops.
06 February 2017 - 15:32
Peter Bergström says:
Steve: Sure, it's nice that those we have actually educated, and quite a few who have come here from other countries and who want to push forward. Hooray for Sweden:-).
BP: You are not alone but Trump will be, haha. What a circus! You cannot and should not keep up with everything in development. Get the young people to help you and take the raisins you want. Just sit on the train and let the young people do the work and it will probably work out.

Biggeros says:
Is it not the case that we can teach each other a thing or two both X/Y. It used to be easier in the labour market and there were fewer demands.
Today there is no need for door-to-door salesmen when there are Internet sales? Of course, technology is advancing at a rapid pace.
06 February 2017 - 16:39
Peter Bergström says:
Biggeros: Of course we learn from each other and that is a must. What I meant by Door-to-Door Salesman is that some people fell for this, but the younger generation has learnt so much already, and they don't fall for just anything. They are more straightforward and speak up, so they are born with a chip on their shoulder.

Matts Torebring says:
I am a 47, do I belong to the meat mountain then? We have also stayed at First Camp in "Lule" and Strömstad. We go back with the motorhome with pleasure. So finally, it's time for the "ÜberTrampet" in the USA to be "Tramped" down.

Emma, sun like sun? says:
The son is of the latest generation and yes, it goes fast there. Or son hab had a friend at home I would watch a film whereupon the friend brought the plate on the sofa in case it would be boring for a while in the film! I took the disc away from her, they actually also have to learn that it's not always fun, good and cool, sometimes life is a little tougher too.

Deciree says:
It is true that young people are rockets compared to you. Think how lucky we are to have these rockets in the family:) The roles have been reversed ... now I get help from the sons more often than before :-)) Trump I would also like to trample down ... morr. Hugs
