We tend to get stuck in front of our computers in our houseboat. There is always something we want to fix with the blog or something. It is admittedly very fun and engaging, but it's still lucky that we have friends who pull us out sometimes.
Last Saturday, our friends Lennart and Beata took us for an evening at the Mall of Scandinavia in Solna, and it's not just about shopping, let me tell you. You can also enjoy a whole Saturday night.
Table of contents
Food and beer
We started with food and beer at the Indian restaurant Indian Garden, located in the Mall of Scandinavia. The food tasted good, but it was not easy to order as the letters on the menu were the smallest we ever seen. Then we proceeded to O'Leary's, where we fortified ourselves with another drink while we scouted out the activities we wanted to try...
Who wins at billiards?
We started with pool, me and Peter against Lennart and Beata. For me it was the first time ever, so I use that as an excuse for losing badly... Fun to try anyway!
Shuffleboard or laser tag?
We set out to play a game where you have to press the buttons that start to light up - but absolutely... not on the buttons that stop glowing. We played in teams and managed to hit each other on the hands a lot. Great activity if you feel like you're getting tired and want to get your adrenaline pumping!
Other activities include 'shuffleboard' (a mix of curling and boules!), darts, bowling, mini-golf and 'laser tag' (where you have to find and shoot down the enemy with a laser weapon).
VIP bio
After this whole evening, it wasn't really time to go to the cinema, but we decided to check out what the VIP cinema at Filmstaden Scandinavia looks like. We arrived just in time for the credits ... If you want to go here another time, you can start with dinner at the restaurant Drama or order a take-away or snack menu that you eat in the lounge in front of the cinema ...
Have you been to the VIP cinema? Do you have a favourite restaurant at Mall of Scandinavia? Or have you tried any of the activities at O'Learys?

Wow, a busy evening I see. Fun when it happens a little 🙂

Helena says:
Maybe you need to be pulled out of your usual comfort zone sometimes 🙂.

Alexandra says:
I have been to the VIP cinema once - thought it was super! Perfect with such comfortable chairs for someone like me who has a little difficulty sitting still for a whole film usually. ? But a little boring that you have a table between each armchair, does not become directly romantic hehe.
I have eaten at O'learys there but have not tried any activities there.
There is some kind of VR glasses thing there at MoS too, you sit in an egg that moves and you see a short film in the egg.
VR glasses... the daughter tried it once, it seemed fun?
22 March 2017 - 7:04
Helena says:
We have to try the VIP cinema too, but without making out then haha 😉 I hadn't heard of the "egg"!!!?

Robin says:
Shuffleboard is unbeatable, great fun, something for everyone for sure!
Love the first photo, looks like Lennart's arm is a bit too long 😀.
22 March 2017 - 8:33
Helena says:
Shuffleboard looked fun, but we couldn't understand the rules haha. Next time! And haha, now I see how long Lennart's arm is, I did not see that before 😉.

Ama de casa says:
No, I haven't even SEEN that Mall of Scandinavia. Other than in pictures then. But it looked like there was a lot of fun to be had 🙂 .
I was quite good at billiards once upon a time. Maybe because we had a pool table in the summer cottage in Byske when I was little - practice makes perfect 🙂 Now I haven't played for many years. The last time I think was when I beat Anders at the hotel in San José. He claimed that he "let" me win because I turned 50 😉.
By the way, what a bunch of lice at the cinema 😀.
22 March 2017 - 9:19
Helena says:
Practice makes perfect! And of course Anders has to try to blame something... 😉 And Ama has probably seen a few pleasure complexes on the other side of the pool instead! 😉

Dryden - Traveller's Edition says:
I've never set foot on the MoS even though I've been down there and worked just a short distance away. Next time?
22 March 2017 - 10:02
Helena says:
You hang out in Stockholm often nowadays, I have noticed 🙂 MoS is not so bad actually! 🙂

Mr Steve says:
There are certainly things to choose from in the big city, I see. I like the VIP cinema.
22 March 2017 - 11:39
Helena says:
Yep, that's one of the great things about a big city! Then, of course, the country has other advantages! 🙂

Ruth in Virginia says:
Shuffle board - It's kind of a game for retirees in Florida
and on cruise ships, but that was before it became possible for the
Mean-Svensson to tick. 🙂
We bought a pool table when we moved to Alaska and brought it here.
Has a large rec room with both a pool and ping-pong table. The
was great to have, when our son was a teenager. The boys liked
to hang out here at home. - May I shyly say, that I was very good at
table tennis (had played in a club in Sthlm), but the billiards, well, just so-so.
That template is absolutely incredible!!!!
22 March 2017 - 13:34
Helena says:
Ruth in Virginia, wondering if shuffle board is originally American? I had never heard of the game before actually... How fun to have your own pool and ping pong table! Understand that you get better if you practice...! 🙂

Ditte says:
Certainly you need to get out sometimes and fine when it is basically "pedestrianised". Have not been in MOS in the evening but have visited O`Learys at the globe which has similar activities. There I liked the mini-golf and bowling best.
Will definitely try MOS even in the evening. I have tried Indian Garden both in Solna and here in Söder. But a magnifying glass is good to have.
22 March 2017 - 13:41
Helena says:
A magnifying glass would really come in handy! And we are as usual fascinated that you have been everywhere, how do you find the time...? 😉

BP says:
Firstly, a big compliment to the header image. It is outstanding!!!
What a fun and exciting evening you had! Great fun!
I have played billiards only once during a training camp in Cyprus. It didn't take me many minutes to destroy the cloth on the billiard table...
Beata looks like she did a yoga exercise as a match preparation.
Have been to O'Learys at Norrtull but only drank beer there. I have not visited MoS in the evening either.
But given that MoS and Täby Centrum have the same owner, I can only congratulate the whole of Solna on an "activity centre" that Täby lacks...
22 March 2017 - 16:43
Helena says:
Glad you like the picture! Destroying the canvas ... how do you do that???? And I can say that Beata's yoga exercise made them win the first match. But we certainly won the second one...! 🙂

Husis blog says:
That Mall of Scandinavia was not for my male owner. But on the other hand, he was only there during the day, maybe it's more fun in the evening...?
22 March 2017 - 19:14
Helena says:
The male owner might appreciate the evening activities more. Shopping is often more popular with women... Except when it comes to us, I think Peter likes shopping more than me! 😉
22 March 2017 - 22:15
JoY says:
We are ashamed to admit that we have never been there! We have to pull ourselves up too?
Hugs from the Alps
22 March 2017 - 19:24
Helena says:
Yes, now is the time, isn't it? 😉 Ohhhh, the Alps! Wonderful!!!

Marina says:
Nice that there are also evening activities there. I have never been in this complex, somehow it doesn't feel like it attracts, it may be because that particular need is probably saturated for many years to come...;)
There is something called "Goldclass" which probably corresponds to VIP cinema. Then you pay approximately Swedish prices (otherwise the cinema is very cheap!) and then you can also eat / drink something before, take into the salon where you can fold the wide chairs properly and get a blanket to wear (which is a good deed considering how cold it is in there!!). And if you happen to get hungry or thirsty during the film, just press the green button and a waiter will come and take your order, which you then consume half lying in the lounge....
23 March 2017 - 6:20
Helena says:
Haha, interesting! Iofs I'm not surprised that this is in Asia! Guess we are a bit behind when it comes to things like this in Sweden ... 😉.
23 March 2017 - 19:39
Deciree says:
Haha agree with Robin...about the arm:)) Looks like it is too long 🙂 You seem to have had a super nice evening there. Of course you should gild every day preferably:) I have never dared to enter this shopping centre actually... maybe best so:) Hugs

I have not been to the Mall of Scandinavia. So for me it was the first time to learn what VIP-BIO is. However, you have been to O learys but not in Stockholm. However, in Karlskrona =) I have played billiards but not shuffleboard. Sounds interesting. Nice weekend!!!
