The boat show is over and so are we. Now it will be fun with a bit of everything, and today I take up a topic that I want to immerse myself in and that is water. We have water everywhere, but it's still a perishable commodity, and sometimes we can't get water without bacteria, or we simply can't get fresh water. There are solutions with clean water in your motorhome, caravan or boat. Join us!
Clean water in your motorhome or boat
Peter (born 1960 in August and one month younger than me, toddler) who runs the Blue Marine watermaker company has recognised the problem and made something clever out of it. By using a small tube to illuminate the water between the water tank and the tap in a motorhome, caravan or boat, we don't have to worry about drinking the water and are sure not to get sick. He also has larger installations for cottages in the archipelago around our country.
The water purifier is easy to plug in and you can see how it works via an app. On a boat, it's also great to be able to pump water out of the lake and it purifies instantly and you can drink it safely. Peter does business with the military and works with countries in Africa, where water is an even bigger problem. Smart stuff for what you take for granted most of the time. In collaboration with Blue Marine watermaker, we're going to try this in the campervan as soon as spring arrives.

åsa in åsele says:
Clean water is a necessity,
we brush our teeth with "caravan water" but we don't drink the water... I don't know but it feels wrong to drink 😉 .
so this kind of water treatment would be a good option.
But then maybe we should be out with the caravan a little more than we are to make it financially viable 😉.
During the summer, I go hiking/walking and Elin bathes/swims 🙂.

Peter says:
Hi Åsa. Of course it is a cost that should be sustainable. we also brush our teeth in the tap water, but it doesn't feel good. we will probably change it over time. We'll see what this little manikin brings in the summer. Hiking has really started properly and I think it's great.

Across the board says:
I have looked at that water purifier and it seems very clever. However, we have always cleaned our water tank in the motorhome with liquid lemon or citric acid, a few times per season. We always drink the water from the tank (if we have not filled it with southern water that tastes like chlorine, which is not good) Since 2001 we have done so and have never been sick with stomach flu due to bad water. By the way, it's almost time for the motorhome premiere 😀.
13 March 2017 - 7:26
Peter says:
If you know that you take care of your tank properly, it is probably possible in Sweden, but I am more doubtful on campsites abroad. We do not know how the water has ended up with them and how old are their tanks? Maybe that's great, but not knowing that bothers me a bit. We are not good at cleaning the tank and we have limited opportunities for that, so it will suit us.

Those little bacteria can really cause big problems. As with many things on the market, people buy these things when they are exposed.

Haha... the development goes forward. Nice to hear what you think then about the clean water 🙂 Then I got a little hungry for the Croatia flight there :) We have so terribly far to drive so we probably take the plane next time and rent a car as you say and drive around instead 🙂 Thanks for the info. Hugs to you

Peter says:
I really understand you. First 160 kilometres just to get to the southernmost part of Sweden is not a fun trip. We have the ferry from Nynäshamn 45 minutes from us to Poland, but it's so bad. It is still the best choice instead of driving. It's cheaper to drive 65 kilometres and the same time as taking the 16-hour ferry. Some have started to park their motorhome in open garages in southern Europe and fly down instead. There will be no driving in Sweden but more in warmer climates. Greet Kjell and many hugs.

Marina says:
Water is really something we don't really realise how much we use it for, and take for granted that it is clean, until we don't have it. Or when you have water that is in no way fit for purpose, which is still an unimaginably large part of the world's population.

Peter says:
The product that no-one can do without is water. This company that I'm writing about works a lot with microloans in Africa and they make drinking water on site with their machines. They pump by hand instead of using electricity and solar cells power the purification process. "We are so spoilt and it's wonderful to be spoilt when we talk about water.

Thanks for the tips! Right now I don't have anything travel-related going on at all and it feels both a bit worrying and empty ...
But it will probably work out, I think. Came home yesterday, so a few days at home may not be so bad either 😀.
Have a great start to the week!

We need long-term and short-term goals in life to have something to look forward to. We are booked for August and are now working in the autumn on what to do for fun. We have a lot going on so it will be good. Happy Monday.

Clean water is so obvious for us who live in Sweden, so I don't understand why people buy bottled or tinned water here!
However, I buy drinking water abroad, where recommended. In France and Germany, however, I have been drinking domestic water.
When we had a caravan, we were very careful to clean the water tank.
It sucks in the travel arm now 😀 a bit of Istria would not be wrong 😉 .
Hugs!

I can only agree. There have been a lot of fairs and far too little travelling this winter. We are going to Malta soon and it will be absolutely wonderful. As I said, it sucks in the travel arm. hugs

Ditte says:
Water is really important and it is strange that people here use the water from the tap for both showering and drinking. Feels a bit unnecessary. And even more unnecessary to buy bottled water in Sweden and many places where the tap water is fully drinkable.
Just for the boat, we filled the tank with fresh water because we were sailing in salt water and this water purifier probably doesn't help with the salt.
But surely it is perfectly ok in motorhomes and the like and boats if you are in fresh water.
It's nice to have an extended flight to Zagreb and it makes it easy to get away.
13 March 2017 - 12:06
Peter says:
They are also suitable for salt water so there is no problem. The first thing the blankets take care of is brackish water and then they screen it for bacteria. For salt water they sell to more southern countries. It feels like they're selling trips left and right right now, and we'll see if they can handle it because the staff must be able to cope as well.

What a clever gadget - the water purifier, especially important in foreign countries. Glad you're going to use it. By the way, how is Freedom doing? Is he still in the "den" at the workshop?

Matts Torebring says:
We connect our motorhome to the water tap via a quick coupling at our own site and flush both the grey and fresh water tanks (standard in our motorhome) after every trip. Yet we don't drink the tap water in the motorhome. We have worked for 20 years with UV lamp in our water dispensers. Today it is silent about this, as we have such good water in our country. But of course a filter and UV lamp is probably not wrong.
13 March 2017 - 19:02
Peter says:
I think it comes in handy if you are travelling outside our country, which a lot of people do. We don't have access to everything you have with a villa and water, so for us it's a good manoeuvre. Then you can end up on a campsite abroad and stand for a while in 40 degree heat and then the bacteria come quickly. This will be good.

Mr Steve says:
Smart solution for water treatment. I imagine there is a big market for this invention.
Madeira deserves the name 'Green Garden of the Atlantic'. I realised this on a visit there in the early 1980s.
Unfortunately, I never got to Croatia during my active travelling period. Have not least through you understood that it is also a gem.
14 March 2017 - 6:49
Peter says:
I have been to Croatia as you know but not to Madeira. It is not possible to do everything but we try. There have been some problems with water in Sweden as well. Surely there was some place in Sweden a few years ago that got bacteria in the water? Today, we don't know what's coming, so it's good to have new inventions.

Inga Magnusson says:
Interesting to read about water purification. As you write, it is often not necessary in Sweden if you are travelling on campsites and can get fresh water. But in many countries it is difficult. I wonder, of course, how the actual purification process works? Are chemical substances added that kill the bacteria?
