Segway in Malta - around beautiful Dingli

Yesterday we got to try Segway in Malta, with a tour around beautiful Dingli. This was a great way to experience the surroundings and nature, we must say! In addition, we can recommend a fantastic restaurant in Dingli.

Dingli in Malta

Dingli (Ħad-Dingli in Maltese) is a small town in Malta with just under 4000 inhabitants. It is located near the coast, surrounded by beautiful nature and farmland.

Dingli is located in the south-west of Malta. It is just over 16 kilometres west of Valletta and takes just over half an hour to reach by car from the capital.

Dingli Cliffs and St Mary Magdalene chapel

Dingli is famous for the cliffs known as the Dingli Cliffs. These are simply the steep cliffs that plunge into the sea outside Dingli, offering a fantastic view. Here is also the chapel of St Mary Magdalene, which is a small Catholic chapel from 1646. When the chapel was built, it was on the same spot where another chapel had stood before, since the 15th century.

After admiring the view for a while, we were ready for the adventure of the day: a segway ride in Malta. And it was right here, at the chapel, that the tour started.

Segway in Malta

We did our segway tour with a company called SegwayMalta. They organise segway tours in different parts of the island, so you can just as easily book a tour in Valletta if you want to. Personally, I would always choose a smaller place with beautiful nature, like Dingli. Valletta is best experienced on foot anyway!

Also, it was more fun (and a bit more challenging) to drive on twisty and hilly gravel roads than on straight tarmac roads. But if I (Helena) can do it, anyone can do it, so to speak. I usually argue that I can't drive anything with a motor, haha.

Segway in Malta - through green nature

We have been to Malta twice before - once in summer and once in autumn. Summer is great if you're going on a swimming holiday and can handle the heat. Autumn has a pleasant and nice climate, even if it's dry. But spring - that's when it's green! In that sense, it was a new Malta we experienced yesterday. Plus lots of flowers in yellow, red, purple and blue.

Restaurant Diar il Bniet in Dingli

Wow we say! If you ever visit the village of Dingli must you have a meal at the restaurant Diar il BnietLocated at 121 Triq il- Kbira, this restaurant is owned by a family that really takes care of the food from farm to table. They grow many of the ingredients themselves and also sell some products from their own farm, such as pickled fruits and vegetables, jams and olive oils.

We started the lunch with a really good mixture of small and good picks (picture below) and then it was gratinated minced meat filled zucchini with grilled vegetables and small boiled potatoes. Really, really good! Whilst we were enjoying the food, the Prime Minister of Estonia came in for lunch, accompanied by his bodyguards. So we were in good company, we must say!
