Yesterday morning we woke up in our cabins on the sailing ship Gratia, moored to a rock at Träskö-Storö in the Stockholm archipelago. The morning started with a great ship's breakfast with eggs and bacon, scones and porridge, and of course cleaning. Then it was time to sail to Stockholm and Strandvägen.

Through the archipelago in sunshine
It was really cold when we woke up at Träskö-Storö on Sunday morning, but slowly, slowly the sun rose and made the air warmer. We unloaded the ship and started the journey towards Stockholm. It was really wonderful sailing! Occasionally we got up real speed, and in between we could enjoy a quiet journey in the sun.
Here is a Nikon KeyMission 360 photo! If you're using a mobile phone, click on the image and get full screen, turn the phone around yourself and up and down. If you are using a computer, click on the small square at the bottom right and get full screen, and then drag the mouse in all directions to experience what we experienced.
Lunch on deck and sailing to Stockholm is WOW!
We also want to take the opportunity to praise our chef Emil, who served us really good food during this trip! Despite a tiny space and constant rocking, he has conjured up good breakfasts, lunches, coffee and dinners every day. On the way home, creamy spaghetti with oven-roasted vegetables was served on deck.
Towards the centre of Stockholm
As you sail into the archipelago, you notice more and more activity. On the islands we started to see cabins and gradually we met more and more boats. Finally, it was time to glide towards Strandvägen in the centre of Stockholm, where people sat on the outdoor terraces and welcomed us by taking photos.
on Strandvägen
Until the school holidays, the sailing ship Gratia will have Strandvägen in Stockholm as its home port. The ship will make shorter trips - from day trips to trips lasting a few days - but will otherwise remain in place. When school ends, it's time for slightly longer sailing trips for young people aged 13-18.
If you're passing by until then, you can take a look at the ship! Are you (or someone in your family or circle of friends) also curious about sailing school ships? Continue to follow our blog FREEDOMtravel - we will tell you more in the coming days! You can of course also check out Swedish Cruiser Club Sailing School Foundation.
This sailing event was organised in cooperation with the Swedish Cruiser Club Sailing School Foundation. The texts, pictures and opinions are as usual our own.

You were certainly lucky with the weather, even if it was a bit cool.
Nice to see some Stockholm pictures taken from the water.

Yes really lucky! Especially when you see what weather we got now after the weekend 😉.

Totally ok Lina! 🙂

It looks really nice, but cold! That's how you can understand why sailors look "weather-beaten".
08 May 2017 - 8:42
Helena says:
Yes, it was nice weather but quite cold. It gets cold on the lake too, when it's windy ...

We did a similar sailing trip almost the last thing we did before we emigrated. A day trip with a large sailing ship on Sweden's national day. It was really beautiful. We should find a similar excursion here. We have never been at sea in Portugal unless you count the car ferry when we had the campervan.

Helena says:
What fun that you also sailed with such a ship! There must be different types of boat and sailing trips in Portugal as well?

Ama de casa says:
What a fantastic voyage you have made, and the boat is absolutely beautiful and well maintained! Must have spent many hours getting everything from both wood and chrome to shine so. Wonderful that there are such enthusiasts who take care of these ships and let them gild life for both the eye and the soul 🙂.
Welcome ashore! Hope it's not rocking too much there on the shore now 😉.
08 May 2017 - 9:42
Helena says:
There are real enthusiasts who look after these boats! They spend a lot of time on them, completely voluntarily! And no, now that we're living in a houseboat, we don't notice the rocking after boat trips anymore... 😉.

Absolutely incredible in every way. First photo - the one of you two
is WONDERFUL. You can see how well you are doing, and how happy and satisfied
you are. Vaxholm - great photo.
The crew must just LOVE sailing.

Yes, but we are not completely on land, we have only moved to our houseboat 😉 .

Nice on the lake but then you want real heat!
Take care........
08 May 2017 - 17:43
Helena says:
Of course, it would have been nicer with more heat, I can agree with that! It is important to get dressed properly 🙂

How nice that you have been bitten by the sailing bug. And of course there is a difference between sailing an old school ship and a smaller and more modern boat, but I think sailing is great.
Great pictures and it has been fun to follow the sailing trip.
08 May 2017 - 18:07
Helena says:
Yes, there is a difference when everything is done by hand and in co-operation! Of course, wonderful to sail in normal cases as well, but this was special 🙂.

What an experience you have had and so many nice pictures that you have brought home. Just don't understand that you have time, get in touch and be able to blog at the same time as sailing.

Helena says:
Blogging while travelling and being busy is actually a challenge sometimes. I usually try to plan so that I write something during the trip that requires less thought ... and save the things that require thought until I get home ....

Fantastic pictures! Oh how lucky you were with the weather - a blue sky in all the pictures! When I then look at all the people - not least you yourself - who are dressed as if you would start an expedition in Antarctica, I am glad that I am sitting here in the heat and reading your post. The picture of you and Peter is an absolute highlight - despite the clothing;-)
08 May 2017 - 21:31
Helena says:
So glad you like our pictures! We had really nice weather, mostly with sun and blue sky. But yes, it gets cold on the lake! Not least when you are also outdoors just all day...!

Christine - 29°. says:
So wonderful to sail and what a beautiful boat. Too bad about the cold winds, but you still look like you had a sunny and nice time. 🙂
PS. If you would crop image no. 2 so the horizon is straight (not sloping), the image will be even more effective / cooler. 🙂
09 May 2017 - 15:45
Helena says:
I'm aware that I didn't manage to keep the camera completely straight there (difficult at speed and tilt). But to fix that you have to tilt the image a bit before cropping? Guess you need like Lightroom or something like that then? We don't have that ...
09 May 2017 - 16:37
Christine - 29°. says:
Know that it is difficult on the fly. 🙂
But surely you have a "blog camera"? I do not remember exactly which one you have, but through it I would guess that it is possible to rotate the image. (So not the full 90° but only the little that is required) It can be done without editing software even on iPhone's and in Instagram so I really do not think you need any advanced program like Photoshop or Lightroom to fix it. But anyway, it's just extra finesse on an already nice picture. 🙂
09 May 2017 - 20:57
Helena says:
Thank you for your answer Christine! 🙂 It's Peter who has a "blog camera" ... I have a Nikon system camera, and that's what I've been shooting with. From there I take the photos into the computer. I use the simple editing program that comes with the Office package, but I don't think you can rotate images in it ... Otherwise, I agree that it would be good to rotate it a bit!
