This weekend we visited our friends Lennart and Beata, who live in Bromma in Stockholm. Instead of being invited for dinner (which we thought we would be), they wanted to invite us to their nearest sushi restaurant. We love sushi so we had absolutely nothing against it, but we didn't realise that we would be invited to what is perhaps the best sushi in Stockholm...!
MGL Sushi in Bromma
Sushi restaurant MGL Sushi is located on Pippi Långstrumps gata in Annedal in the Bromma neighbourhood in Stockholm. Next to it is a kindergarten, a classic suburban pub with cheap beer and lots of ordinary residential buildings with apartments. Definitely not a place where you expect to find a 5-star sushi restaurant, but that's exactly what you do!
Beautiful, varied and fresh ingredients
We each ordered a 12-piece mixed sushi for 115 SEK (top picture) and got an insanely good and beautiful sushi plate with all sorts of different exciting pieces. When we finished eating, we couldn't help but order another 12-piece plate to share - not because we were so hungry, but because it was soooo good!
This time we got another plate (the one below) with even more beautiful and interesting sushi pieces. Right now it feels like all other sushi restaurants can throw themselves against the wall. I want to eat here every day! Do you like sushi? Have you tried MGL Sushi in Bromma?

Looks amazingly delicious. Shushi is really something I never get tired of!

Hard to get tired of! 🙂

Lennart says:
Sushi is good!

Joanna says:
so wow! I love sushi!!! And yes, now I want to eat there every day and not the 11 poor pieces I usually buy in a styrofoam box....

Helena says:
The only thing wrong with this great restaurant is that all other sushi restaurants became more boring, haha 😉.

Johnny Friskilä says:
I love sushi and like to make it myself at home. But that strawberry on smoked eel or mackerel or whatever it is, isn't that a bit too innovative perhaps? 🙂
23 May 2017 - 8:36
Helena says:
Haha, you might think so. But the strawberry was probably mostly a general decoration, I don't think it belonged to any particular sushi piece... 😉.

Mr Steve says:
I have tried sushi, but then never again. One of the few dishes I have missed.
23 May 2017 - 8:41
Helena says:
Sad that you do not experience sushi as good ... but luckily you can choose! 🙂

Monet says:
Oh my goodness! Good sushi restaurants are something we lack in an otherwise great food country like France. They exist, but they are not plentiful. The French are not overly fond of "raw fish" but are happy to try gubbröra and matjes. We have discovered Picard with an incredibly fresh and good frozen range. Among other things sushi, quite ok if you compare with "styrofoam pieces". Have you tried Picard? Available in Täby Centrum among others!

Helena says:
We also found that it was a bit difficult to find sushi in Southern Europe, at least when we were outside the main cities. Unfortunately, I have not been to Picard yet, but I have said for a long time that I want to go there. There is a store in Solna centre and one at Fridhemsplan too 🙂 .

Ama de casa says:
I love sushi! But I haven't tried that restaurant - it looked really nice and tasty.
There are very few sushi restaurants here, but I saw the other day that a new one opened in the city that I have to try someday. Thanks for the reminder 😀

Helena says:
We had a really hard time finding sushi restaurants in Spain, but it's nice to hear that they exist! 🙂

Henny says:
I've had great sushi in California and have a hard time with the "Styrofoam" sushi in my area. But the one you got looks really tempting. I guess I'll have to enjoy your pictures instead.

Helena says:
"Frigolite sushi" doesn't sound very exciting, but maybe it will do sometimes 😉.
23 May 2017 - 13:38
Ditte says:
I'm really fond of "good" shushi and it's not so often you get it in Stockholm. (There are a couple of great places in the city but in a completely different price range) Here to Bromma you may not go in the first place so good to know that it is worth a trip here for this good sushi. And also incredibly affordable!
23 May 2017 - 10:38
Helena says:
There are certainly some good places in the city too! Going to Bromma for sushi feels a bit unexpected, but I will go there again! 🙂

Ruth in Virginia says:
What a nice surprise.
A feast for the eyes, the long plate is simply artistic.
But when it comes to eating sushi - No, thanks! Have tried some
times; did not get better. 🙂

Helena says:
Isn't it beautiful? Sad that you don't like sushi, but luckily you can choose! 🙂

Across the board says:
But so fantastic. Sushi that is so good! And how cheap it was. Written up this on the "to visit list"
23 May 2017 - 11:54
Helena says:
Really affordable! 🙂

Matts Torebring says:
You already know that I write honestly and say what I think. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to firmly reject "raw fish".
23 May 2017 - 19:41
Helena says:
It's a good thing that we can have different opinions 😉.

Annalena says:
I'm allergic to fish and seafood and usually don't care too much when that stuff shows up, but now even I was craving sushi... God, it looked so good! 😛 So glad you found a new favourite!
23 May 2017 - 21:55
Helena says:
Sad to be allergic to seafood... But sushi is also available with avocado, tofu and omelette, or whatever. Maybe it will work?
24 May 2017 - 6:45
Solan says:
Ha, to think we have a good Japanese restaurant so close. The Public in Sumpan has excellent lunches. Picard is also on Landsvägen in Sundbyberg, an excellent shortcut when you have guests who are e.g. dessert-loving. A good selection north of the big city 🙂
23 May 2017 - 22:14
Helena says:
Yes for you it is actually close! 🙂 We really have to check out Picard on occasion!
24 May 2017 - 6:47
Deciree says:
Wow how nicely laid out it was 🙂 Understand that you liked it because you eat sushi... which I do not do because of the allergy. But the picture was really nice.
