For a few days we have been telling you about the amazing sailing trip we experienced this weekend, with the sailing ship Gratia. Are you, or someone in your family or friends, keen to try sailing? There is something for everyone who wants to get out on the water. Today we tell you a bit more about sailing courses for young people and adults!

Sailing courses for young people and adults
Stiftelsen Svenska Kryssarklubbens Seglarskola organises mainly sailing courses for young people aged 13-18. The courses take place on board one of the Foundation's ships (Gratia, Gratitude or Atlantica) and involve being at sea for one or more weeks.
You become a close-knit group during a sailing trip like this! You learn a lot and you have to work together as a team. Then, of course, there is also a lot of hanging out and enjoyable moments together.
Sailing for adults
There are also a variety of sailing holidays for adults to choose from. For example, there are sailing trips for young adults, adventure sailing in the Scotland, short sails and day sails. In addition, sailings can be organised on request by companies, associations, schools and private individuals. Read more at Swedish Cruiser Club Sailing School Foundation website.
Film from our sailing trip
Peter has put together a film from the sailing trip we were on, Friday to Sunday. Please click on it so you can see it in big screen and don't forget to turn on the sound on your computer before watching! (There's some flickering at the end - we'll try to upload a new version when we have time.)
Voluntary work
We would like to extend a big and warm thank you to the entire command team on Gratia, and to everyone else in the Swedish Cruise Club Sailing School Foundation. All these, mostly young, people work completely voluntarily as captains, helmsmen, instructors and cooks. They also look after the ships all year round. All because of their love for sailing and for the ships. Cool, isn't it?
Sailing - not just for "the rich"
We spoke to some other participants in the weekend sailing course, parents of young sailors, who were keen to convey the message that sailing is no longer just for "the rich". They said that sailing has become cheaper compared to the past, and that there are many opportunities for those who want to try it.
We can primarily recommend sailing with the cool ships Gratia, Grattude and Atlantica, but it's good to know that there are also other options. These include sailing schools and 'integration sailing', which is aimed at people who are new to Sweden.
Lisa in the village says:
Thank you for the film screening.
What a great teamwork.

Helena says:
It is really teamwork to sail such an old-fashioned sailing ship!!! Glad you liked that we made a film! 🙂

What a wonderful film you have made Peter. Nicely filmed with the drone too, thumbs up.

Really lovely days you had! Looks wonderful 🙂
Hmm... Sailing trips for young adults? I wonder if I should sign up for one... HAHAHA!!!! 😀
10 May 2017 - 11:02
Helena says:
Haha, yes, age is in the head, and you don't get older than you make yourself ... or was it ...? 😉

Ruth in Virginia says:
Absolutely nothing for me, but nice to see "from a safe distance".
10 May 2017 - 13:00
Helena says:
Some things are better enjoyed from a distance. This is the case for me with carousels 😉.

Marina says:
It's kind of interesting with those activities that used to be considered "only for the rich", how that has actually changed, but at the same time it's a bit difficult to get rid of the "rich man" label completely.
10 May 2017 - 15:31
Helena says:
But really? Perceptions of how things are probably stick around much longer than they should sometimes 😉.
10 May 2017 - 19:27
Matts Torebring says:
An interesting and enjoyable film, but which also shows what kind of work it is on board to make everything work. I understand that you had fun on board.
10 May 2017 - 18:17
Helena says:
Yes, there are some "crafts", and teamwork! Although sometimes you can also just sit back and have a good time 🙂.
10 May 2017 - 19:27
Lennart says:
Interesting but we prefer motorhomes!
10 May 2017 - 19:28
Helena says:
Motorhome is not bad either! We are still waiting to get ours from the workshop ...

Ditte says:
I myself have been on a sailing course organised by the Swedish cruiser club and we were there when we had a sailboat. And sailing is not directly more expensive than other "sports".
Great fun that you have been bitten and maybe it will be a sailboat for you too or that you might rent one this summer. Of course it is different to sail a large and old faryg like Gratia against a smaller sailboat but teamwork is always present when sailing and it is really wonderful.
Great fun to read your posts from the sailing. Nice to see the film too.
10 May 2017 - 19:50
Helena says:
Nice that you have sailed with the Swedish Cruiser Club! All sports of course cost a lot, but it's a shame if you do not dare to look for opportunities because you think there are none! Glad you liked the film 🙂

Role o Carina says:
Interesting film to watch, you shouldn't be afraid of heights 🙂.
We probably like the Motorhome more 🙂 .
Take care and enjoy.....Kram
10 May 2017 - 20:49
Helena says:
If you are going up the mast, you must not be afraid of heights! Peter has no problem with that, but I'm afraid of heights ... luckily there are quite a few to choose from during this kind of sailing - always someone who wants to! 😉

Absolutely wonderful pictures! Almost makes me interested - but only almost;-)

Helena says:
Haha 🙂 Glad you like our pictures!

Perfect post for our part, my brother-in-law has got a sailboat so we have talked at home about learning to sail. Would be cool to be able to take a sailing trip in the Mediterranean eventually!?
11 May 2017 - 18:53
Helena says:
What fun with a sailboat! Sailing in the Mediterranean is something we would also like to try at some point!
