Summer finally arrived! As if it was never spring. Just a few days ago I was wearing a down jacket and mittens, and it was snowing. Do you remember? Yesterday I was sweating in my jeans and my thin, thin summer jacket. Fantastic! As you may know, I (and Peter!) walk to work every day. Here are some photos from yesterday's walk along Karlbergssjön.
From Pampas to Hornsberg beach
We started the morning by walking from Pampas marinawhere we live, and over to Hornsberg beach on the other side of Lake Ulvsunda. For those not familiar with the area, we can explain that Pampas marina is located in Solna, but extremely close to Kungsholmen in Stockholm.
The only difference is the water, or a short walk across a bridge. On the other side is Hornsberg beach. Once a gravel pit, this is now a hip and immensely popular residential area and beachside hangout.
Homes along Lake Karlberg
I took the rest of the photos on my walk home from work yesterday. I work on Fleminggatan, between T-Centralen and Fridhemsplan, and every day I walk home along Karlbergssjön. Sometimes I hear "locals" say that Stockholm is so "hectic and hard".
I want to tell you that Stockholm is more than T-Centralen and Drottninggatan. You don't have to go far from there either! Yesterday the atmosphere was fantastic: motor boats, paddle boarding, families on a picnic, people walking in shorts, dogs, ducks...
Bird life in Lake Karlberg
There are mainly two kinds of birds that hang out in Karlbergssjön (as far as I can see, I don't know anything about birds): mallards and coots. The mallards hang everywhere, including on the pavements on the other side of the road.
The coots are currently building nests in the reeds. One of them is in the nest, and the other is collecting building materials... I've seen pictures of their chicks online, and am eagerly awaiting the appearance of those red-black downy balls!

On my way from Stockholm to Linköping by bus, I passed your marina the other day. I have probably done it before but now I know it and noticed it.
It looked cosy in your little floating village there in the spring sunshine.

How nice that you passed our marina! Yes, it's like a floating little village 🙂.

What a lovely and beautiful walk you have to and from work every day!
Answer: Exchange student in Iceland. What a thing. I get more and more fascinated and impressed by the island and the people. 🙂

Yes, the walk is super nice, and even nicer now that everything is green! Iceland is both beautiful and impressive 🙂

Mr Steve says:
There's no hint of big city heat in these wonderful images.
Can assume that you come to work every morning positively charged.
20 May 2017 - 8:45
Helena says:
Large parts of Stockholm are green, nice and quiet. If you just venture outside of T-Centralen and Drottninggatan, you'll quickly get away from the big city heat 🙂.

Åke Hammarbäck says:
Yes, wonderful with summer heat and sun!
Nice recognisable pictures of summer Stockholm by the canal, lived at Reimers Holme for 4 years before we moved into the sailboat at Pampas marina. Stayed almost 2 years there, but that was before you moved there.
Lovely to have so much water where you live! A shortage here in Lund. 🙂
20 May 2017 - 8:54
Helena says:
How nice that you lived in a sailboat in the Pampas!!! When was that? I have lived in Lund, but it is a long time ago now. From when I was born to the year I turned 14 😉.
20 May 2017 - 9:19
Åke Hammarbäck says:
It was early spring 1998 that we took the sailboat from Reimers boat club fully loaded to the Pampas.
I lived there until spring 2000 when we bought an 18th century farm in Sorunda. Now I have lived in Skåne for almost 10 years!
20 May 2017 - 9:27
Helena says:
Exciting! Sounds cool with an 18th century farm! I think our houseboat was in the Pampas when you lived here, or got there around that time. I think it was maybe military green then, and it had a much smaller and lower superstructure. Do you perhaps remember it?

Wonderful pictures! Love your mix of posts.
Exactly, Stockholm has so much peace, too! Many people also say that New York is so hysterical. I don't understand that at all. My experience tells me that it is calm in relation to all the people who are actually there and have to move around.
Have a nice weekend!
Hug Lena

I think it's easy to think that a big city is very hectic if you've only been there a few times and only moved in the most hectic areas. I also think it's really hard to be at T-Centralen, but I try to avoid being there if possible ... 😉 There are many nice and quiet areas in Stockholm!

Ama de casa says:
How beautiful it is! Hard to believe it's so close to the stress of the big city. Stockholm is a fantastic city, but there are always disadvantages too. My favourite place is probably the walkway between the commuter trains and the metro at T-centralen. You start running even if you're not in the slightest bit of a hurry... I can't believe that your lovely photos were taken just a stone's throw away. Well, if you're really good at throwing stones then... 😉.
Have a great day!
20 May 2017 - 9:35
Helena says:
Haha, that walk is really NOT my favourite place in Stockholm 😉 Yes, T-Centralen (and Drottninggatan!) can be really stressful ... But as I said, this walk is (at one end) not many hundred metres from T-centralen ...

Goatfish says:
Imagine that you can live centrally and still have greenery and bird life close by 😀 That's how I feel too.
Lovely pictures, lovely summer, which came and frightened, the body was set on a winter jacket, haha 😀.
But, now we are enjoying!!!!!!!!

Isn't that right? Surely it is wonderful to have access to both city and nature! 🙂

Stockholm is such a beautiful city and the tranquillity and nature are close by. The variations are great and there is something for everyone.
Lovely summer pictures from a summery Stockholm. And all the water around adds to the nice feeling.
Karlberg Castle is beautiful where it is located and I remember the time when I moved to Stockholm as a child and lived there. There was a large playground in the park.
Have a nice weekend.

Wonderful pictures and wonderful city!
A city without water cannot be a beautiful city, in my opinion.
Stockholm is something very special, built on the basis of
bridges as it is. What a privilege to be able to go to
work in such beautiful (as in "beautiful") surroundings.

What lovely pictures on such a wonderful day. Stockholm does not know the owners so well so unfortunately it has mostly been the central parts. May nag the owners a little so I may be able to make a trip again to the big city so they can experience a little calmer pace than usual when they are up there.
Wishing you a nice weekend! Hugs

How nice it looks in the area where you live! I have a large pond just below where I live, and there are swans, ducks, seagulls and coots. A pair of coots have just had four little chicks, and it seems that the mother coot is incubating more eggs. One of the ducks also has babies. It is so nice to have life in the pond!
