We set out to find the cool rock formations in the Czech Republic called Adrspach rocks, but it wasn't easy to get there. We drove smoothly from Poland and across the Sudeten Mountains into the Czech Republic, but the road leading to Adrspach was closed.
The guys renovating the road raised a warning finger and waved us away. Now how would we get there? It was a long detour, but we can say that it was definitely worth it. Wow, these must be the coolest rock formations we've seen!

Special rock formations in the Czech Republic
The Adrspach Rocks, or Adrspach Teplice Rocks, are very special rock formations in the Czech Republic that are located in a triangle between the villages of Teplice nad Metují, Adrspach and Čáp Peak, above the village of Skály in the north of the Czech Republic. Once upon a time, these rocks were at the bottom of the sea, which contributes to the special shapes they have today.
Imaginative names
The special rock formations tickle the imagination, and have certainly contributed to the different names of the mountains. For example, here you can see mountains with names like 'The Mayor and Mayoress', 'Eagle's Nest' and 'Devil's Bridge'.
Steep ... and crowded
The walk around the area is mostly comfortable and fairly easy, but at the end there were a lot of steep stairs ... Good for the breathing! We also made it through the absolute narrowest staircase I have ever been through. ever. It was a case of pulling in your stomach, so to speak ... and not having too big a rucksack.
Visiting Adrspach Rocks
If you want to visit the mountains in Adrspach, you simply go to ... Adrspach. Outside the area there is a large guarded car park and right next to it is the entrance where you buy tickets. Since this is the Czech Republic, nothing is expensive. We had to pay 28 crowns per person to enter, and if you also want to bring your dog, you have to pay four crowns extra ...
Hiking trails
You get a map showing the different hiking routes, and besides rock formations, you can see beautiful lakes and (at certain times of the year) a waterfall. On one of the lakes you can also take a boat trip. It's good to know that there is no food or drink inside the area, but just outside the entrance there are a few simple eateries.
Experience in Adrspach Rocks
Here's a 360 photo with Nikon Key Mission. Click on the icon at the bottom right to get the big screen, then spin around with your mouse or spin your toad or phone around you in this cool environment. If you have 360 glasses, you can have an even cooler experience!
Camping ... and a bit more about prices
There is a campsite right next to the Adrspach rocks, but we decided to go a bit further and moved to a campsite called Cesky Raj. The problem when we arrived was that we hadn't had time to change Czech money, and the campsite owner couldn't take cards. "Do you have any euros?" he asked in perfect English.
20 euros? This is enough for the camping fee, electricity and 6 beers.
Peter thought about it and realised that he actually had a €20 note. That would be great, thought the campsite owner. "It's enough for the camping fee, electricity and 6 beers." We begin to understand why even the Poles think it's cheap in the Czech Republic!

Soon you won't be able to show me any more cool stuff (as a pleasure on my morning journey to work). My "to-do list" is long enough as it is, but I just love rock formations, from the awesome monastery mountains, Meteora, outside Parga, Greece, to the rauks of Gotland.....
28 June 2017 - 6:25
Helena says:
Haha, we might find more cool things on this trip 😉 We haven't seen Meteora, but it seems really cool too!
28 June 2017 - 8:03
Mr Frank Olsen says:
This was an amazing place, almost like something out of the Flintstones' world? And as Britt Marie says, a bit like Meteora.

WOW!!! What incredible rock formations! Breathtakingly beautiful...
But that first sentence in the second paragraph... I'd like to hear the GPS pronounce it. HAHA! 😀
28 June 2017 - 8:47
Helena says:
Haha, well the funny thing is that our GPS insists on pronouncing all the street names as well. And she does NOT have good pronunciation, I can promise you that. And she calls the capital of the Czech Republic Praha, even though she speaks Swedish ... 😉.

Birgitta in Umeå says:
It looks a bit like Cappadocia in Turkey.
We have been there once and it was a great experience.
People used to make caves in the rock formations and live in them. Neither too hot nor too cold.
28 June 2017 - 8:56
Helena says:
Cappadocia looks amazing in pictures! Have not been there unfortunately, but it seems cool!

I choose your own words, Madly Powerful! What an experience! This beats all the department stores in the world. Do you need a plough to get there? What presentations you make, of your adventures! Don't forget to have a good time while travelling.
28 June 2017 - 9:28
Helena says:
You don't have to have a flat tyre. Big tourist buses go there, so there is probably no restriction. We ended up on a rather small road in one place because a road was closed for repairs. But there were also other roads.

So exciting and cool to find these cup formations here. Have seen similar ones in Cappadocia and outside Parga in Greece and they may be from the same era. Powerful pictures.
Very nice to come to the Czech Republic, a country where I have almost only visited Prague and its surroundings.
It's nice to have a green and beautiful campsite where there is plenty of space and also a good price point.
Keep up the good work.
28 June 2017 - 9:58
Helena says:
I understand that there are some amazing rock formations in Greece and Turkey. There is a lot to see in Europe. And in the Czech Republic! Prague may be the most commonly visited, but we think the rest of the country has a lot to offer!

28 June 2017 - 21:13
BP says:
What an incredibly powerful area. The film with the "Hitchcock" music was a highlight and reinforced the impression of these overwhelming natural structures. Spooky, scary (thinking of Stephen King's "The Shining") and ridiculously cheap.
Speaking of ridiculously cheap - yep, the campsite for 20 Euros and everything included - unbelievable!
28 June 2017 - 22:23
Helena says:
Yes, really powerful, and cheap. Often people think the prices are good in Prague, but it's much cheaper in the countryside!
