FREEDOMtravel has the great pleasure of presenting a guest blogger this summer. Every Saturday, Elisabeth Haug will tell us about the family's exciting motorhome trip this summer.
Oh what fun it will be to blog here on this fantastic site and tell you about our trip that we plan to do this summer. I will start with our planning, it is always so exciting to see how it will actually turn out.
So far we have never followed our plan to 100 %. There can be traffic jams, bad weather, broken car tyres, and all sorts of things that have caused us to change our plans along the way. Sometimes it simply feels too far to travel.
Our family
First, I wanted to tell you a little about who we are so you know who you will be following this summer. Our family who is on the trip is my husband Per, his great interest is trucks, especially Scania. It may be that you will see some inspiration from this, we have a number of pennants, lamps etc. in our motorhome.
We have major discussions about the interior of the motorhome and, like everything else in a marriage, we compromise. Per gets to decorate the car part (just right) and I decorate the rest. Then we have Elias 7 years old. A happy and talkative boy who is involved in everything new. He has travelled in a motorhome every year since he was two years old. He knows nothing else in the summer.
Then I come, Elisabeth, I want travelling to be easy. I read up on everything I come across before we leave. I want smart solutions for most things that make life easier. We have been travelling in a motorhome for 5 years and have been away for 4 weeks in recent years. Including Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Hungary, France, Netherlands, Austria, Liechtenstein, Sweitz, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.
Planning for summer 2017
We have taken a 6 week holiday and will be out all summer. My husband's biggest dream is to take a campervan to Greece!!!
A tip, plan your trip with ViaMichelin, then you can add stopovers and you also get a calculation of the cost. Absolutely brilliant.
This is the plan. We will slowly but surely drive towards Croatia with various sleep stops. We will have a longer stop in Legoland, Ulm, Germany so Elias and the children in the friends' car have something fun to look forward to during the journey down. We imagine that the journey from Åkersberga to Novalja in Croatia will take a week and then we have planned 1 week at camping Strasko and then move on down. A stop in Gradac on the Makarska Riviera with good friends and then we will make our way down as it suits.
There is a lot to keep track of if you intend to go to the countries that are included in the planning, we have ordered a green card from Folksam for the car so check on it in any case.
Sitting with a good cup of coffee and looking forward to the holiday, a list I think I will make, so I don't have to keep everything in my head.
Today's remember list: Getting ready before travelling
- Fixing a troublesome back door hinge
- Remove the foot of the old satellite dish (remove unnecessary weight).
- Fix a new table inside the car (the old one is unnecessarily large and a bit too low for a child's seat).
- Buy an extra hob (so I can stand outside much more and cook).
- Switching on the reversing camera
- Find the GPS, that it can just disappear!!!
- Make play boxes for Elias so that he doesn't just play games during the car journey.
- Remind the husband to get an international driving licence (I think it is needed in Albania).
- Make a smart grocery list (grilled meat and potato salad in all honour, but for 6!! weeks?).
- Sewing curtains for the sleeping alcove (How can you make curtains that don't cover the entire opening? )

I fell in love with Scania, it sounds extra fun. When we first rolled into Löttorps Camping in 1973, Öland, with car and caravan, the neighbours came to greet us and said: "Oh, you drive a lorry at work". Of course it is visible, but not anymore, I stopped in 1976. It will be exciting to read more.

Yes, it's funny, we have a whole box filled with mini scarves, one for each country we have visited. People often stop to ask about them. 🙂 You will probably see more truck-inspired pictures during the summer. 🙂

Yes, it will be fun. It is actually not as far from southern Croatia as you think. There are also exciting countries we have to travel through to get there.

Great! I will join that trip. Of course, as a Greek lover, I look forward to seeing Greece from a motorhome perspective as well.

Preparation is part of the journey. Then it will probably never be as planned, but this is what the owners think is the charm of me. We will join you on your journey!

What fun to follow your journey through Europe! And even better that you are thinking all the way to Greece! This year will be the first time in 13 years that we do not go there by motorhome? Well, we have done Italy twice in those years too.... be fun to see if your planning holds? usually there is a tendency for it to change? roll calmly! /Anette

It will be nice to follow you, but why no own blog? The planning is half the fun I and my husband usually say!
There are a few http://www.husbilsklubben.se who made many motorhome journeys to Greece. "Gunnar" from Malmö. There is a travel forum there in the Motorhome Club (which if I remember correctly) is called My Perspective, where I wrote about our winter trips to and in Spain, still available for members to read.

Yes, I actually thought about it and I have a small blog that I am not so active on yet but I think freedomtravel is such a nice site and since I am new to this, I get some tips and ideas from Helena here. It becomes so much more fun when you can get some advice and help to make it as good as possible. 🙂 Yes will go in and read your blog 🙂 Fun

What fun! We also live in Åkersberga but have slightly younger children and got a motorhome last summer. I think it's a fantastic way to travel with the kids. This year there will be a trip to Norway but no long European trip. But maybe next year. Will be exciting to read about your adventure and get some tips.
10 June 2017 - 22:23
Elisabeth says:
But so nice with another Åkersberg neighbour here. You can find me on FB if you want to stop by 🙂 Now it is actually that I come from Norway but have lived here for many years. If you have any questions, maybe I can help. 🙂
