It was Saturday and time for a guest blog with Elisabeth Haug again.
The feeling when you see this, after a whole year at home in Sweden and with months of planning. So wonderful to finally be down in the Alps. Today there are two weeks left until we leave with the motorhome and we are full of anticipation, also this year.

Preparing for the long journey
The week has been full of planning and preparation with what to do before we go on a long trip. We have had a blockage in the camper's shower for a long time, in itself no problem as we do not use the shower, but oh so disturbing that something is wrong.
Spent Monday evening trying to get it fixed, it seemed to go like that! Lived on hope all Tuesday and hurried out to the motorhome after work.
NOPE, did not go well, will check with the company that will mount the rear view camera, they often have smart solutions (Jocar in Åkersberga). Hope they can remove the hoses to the grey water tank and clean, do not dare to do it yourself.
It will be nice to have a rear view camera, maybe I will have to sit in the car a little more when we park. Feels safer with a camera, at least when you are out driving alone. Have thought of taking the car myself in the autumn when I will run the bull run.
Cooking while travelling
Have gone through the kitchen, made sure everything is in place and finally got hold of the a silicone mould for my Omnia. Finally found it at Jula, it was not easy to find, in the first Christmas shop it was out of stock and in the second they said they did not have it in the range, guess if the shop assistant was surprised when I showed her where it was 🙂 .
Now it's time to cook! Need to invest in more healthy or at least more varied food than marinated grilled meat and potato salad with bea. It feels like that to train all winter to eat me up in the summer, no better food it will be this year. Then it should suit everyone in the family, can probably be a little different sometimes. Pancakes for Elias and mozzarella salad for us, for example.
TIP: There is a FB group called Omni recipes that will make your mouth water!
Here are some of my food list ideas
Taco gratin (Omnia) | Spaghetti meat sauce | Minestrone soup | Cesar salad |
Fish gratin (Omnia) | Chicken pasta | Fish soup | Greek salad |
Ham omelette | Pancakes | Vegetable soup | Oven baked fish (Omnia) |
Grilled chicken with mozzarella salad | Pork pancake (Omnia) | Herring and new potatoes, chives, red onion, sour cream |
Updated GPS
The GPS is found and updated, now I have been tricked into buying an expensive map but found a map. specially adapted for motorhomes. We have often thought: my God, can we go down here? Or, is this road wide enough? Thinking that a map for motorhomes should take this into account. The map was found on TomTom.
Mini scarves from each country
This thing with the lorry ... The husband likes mini scarves and apparently you MUST have one for every country you have been to. It has been a task that Per has spent a lot of time on and finally he has found a place that has the ones we need, in FRENCH!!! Managed to go through an English site and order these expensive items, now the husband will wait with excitement at the mailbox. Of course, they must be ready for each new country 🙂 .
Lists, lists, lists
On Tuesday I finished the bathroom and the medicine box. Always good to have a medicine box when travelling with children. On the www.1177.se there is advice on what to take with you when travelling. That's great.
It reduces my TO DO list. It is so nice, while it is half the fun of planning, thinking and longing. This weekend we are going camping and enjoying. Saw that the sun would be out so it will be to socialise with good friends and yes yes, plan a little with friends who are also going south. Nice weekend on you all!

Mr Frank Olsen says:
Hi Elisabeth, Per and Elias.
We can't help but feel a little envious (jealous?) of you making this long trip down to these great places.
We travelled last year through almost all of Europe, including Croatia, Albania, Montenegro, FYROM and Greece. And all of Eastern Europe from Russia via Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia.
For us, freedomtravel was a great source of inspiration as they were travelling for a whole year in 2015. Their blog was very diligently used in our preparations.
On our trip, we also had the pleasure of being freedomtravel's Saturday guests:

We want to wish you a wonderful trip and we hope that we can also be a little source of inspiration along the way. We have lots of tips about the fantastic places we visited on our trip. You can read about our trip in our blog, I link you to Latvia and then you can click on the bottom of each post: http://janneogfrank.blogspot.no/2016/08/riga-baltikums-fineste-hovedstad.html
Sincerely, Janne Varne and Frank Olsen

Oh how exciting, I will read. It's great that you can help each other and learn from each other's experiences. Fun that you are from Norway, get a little homesick. 🙂 (Coming from Kragerö itself), thank you very much. 🙂

Mr Nils-Åke Hansson says:
GPS is important to have updated maps. Now I have chosen after a number of purchased GPS to have it in the Samsung Plate. I have used Navigon most on the sales in Europe and the Nordic countries. Starting to use Sygic again. was in Paris in the city and Sygic just stopped working so it was not used for a few years. But now I have tested again, it works well now.

Elisabeth says:
Yes, it's not fun when it doesn't work, we had a GPS that went off in the middle of Frankfurt. Not fun. There was a new one after that and now I always update the maps before each summer 🙂 Have not dared to use the plate as a GPS but it may be something to invest in.

We have no motorhome and are so old-fashioned to use ordinary, old, honest maps. I had a good laugh today when I saw at Akademibokhandeln a well-exposed rack with "Europe map" and "Sweden map". Couldn't resist checking just to know if the maps were not 10 years old. Nope, they were not - 2017;-) It felt safe to not be alone in being "mossy".
We also make lists before we travel, whether it's a long trip or a short one. Always feels so nice to be able to tick off.
I think making a menu is very ambitious. I mean, maybe there are fun ingredients in the country you are visiting or maybe it is cheaper to eat out than to cook yourself. Spain is a perfect example of that.

Elisabeth says:
This is how I feel about the menu. When my energy is low and it's hot. I ask the family: what are we going to eat today? Then I get back, : You choose, darling! Then it's nice to know that there are ingredients for some dishes at home. Otherwise, I agree with you to 100%, is what is available in the country you are in 🙂.

Thanks for the food list! It's always good to have a backup when your imagination and/or energy is low.
