Mierzecin - castle in Poland with magical nature!
Mierzecin Castle is located in Dobiegniew, Poland, and features Poland's third largest vineyard, a horse farm and a spa. The castle functions as a luxury hotel and you can stay for a night or a weekend and enjoy the peaceful surroundings, restaurant visits and wellness treatments.
The castle was built in 1861 by a von Sydow but then sold to another von, haha. The castle is a historical monument with an octagonal tower in the English Gothic style.
Magical nature
Nature in Poland is generally beautiful and we are constantly driving through intensely green deciduous forests that frame, and almost flood, the roads. The Poles also like parks. I do not know how many parks we have already stumbled upon, but the wild park behind the castle is probably the most peaceful and at the same time most imaginative we have seen. Like stepping into a fairy tale or a Japanese garden!
Wedding at a castle in Poland
When we peeked into the castle's park, we also stumbled into a wedding. The bridal party came down the stairs and the wedding took place in the red little Chinese house in the park. It's not hard to understand that it's popular to get married in this environment! (Peter grumbled a bit because he wanted to fly his drone, but didn't dare for fear of disturbing the wedding...)
Polish-style camping
After the visit to the castle, we rolled towards what we hoped would be a campsite. Where the GPS said there was no camping sign, but we parked by the road and walked down the dirt road on foot. And yes, there was a small lake, tables and chairs in the open, toilets and showers, tents, canoes and a bunch of happy Poles. And also: a whole bunch of caravan sites with electricity, water and the possibility of emptying the caravan toilet.
There was even a small, small reception desk with a guy who spoke only Polish. Despite the language confusion, he managed to explain that everything is free, even the electricity! What a great service!

What a nice surprise! And nice, with a camipng in this beautiful nature and with plenty of space. Not so fun to stand next to everyone else on a larger campsite and have a few metres between cars and caravans.
Both the environment and the vegetables here are truly beautiful.

Helena says:
Of course it is nice nature, and not so crowded when you are in the countryside 🙂

Fun to follow your adventures on the trip! Poland is underestimated as a tourist country, has a lot to offer both of nature and culture, at reasonable prices. I realised this when I had a Polish friend who told me.

We can only agree! Poland has a lot to offer!

The fact that the electricity was free was really not bad! What a fairytale park and what a great place to have your wedding. I just enjoy all the nature and the nice Chinese red house that is glimpsed among the bushes. I would love to visit this beautiful castle and park in the future?

26 June 2017 - 22:07
BP says:
Poland is amazing!!! The greenery is so striking and beautiful, I think. To find a campsite where everything is free - absolutely incredible I think.
You do and have done fantastic publicity for Poland. Imagine if you could also make the ferries more attractive. Then I think the country would be invaded by both caravaners and ordinary tourists. Not only is it incredibly beautiful there, but it's also very cheap. At the Polish tourist office only when you get home;-)
26 June 2017 - 21:45
Helena says:
It's so nice that you also like Poland! Yes, the greenery is one of the most striking things. It is so intensely green everywhere 🙂 The ferries should really spit up. I know many people who avoid them because they are so boring. If they got their act together just a little, they could get many more types of travellers than just truckers!
26 June 2017 - 22:09
Elisabeth says:
What a nice surprise that everything was free! There are plenty of castles and parks and churches in Poland! Nice to get tips on new places, as it will certainly be a new trip there.
