Now we have started the exciting journey eastwards in Poland! From having recently been in Krakow, where you can hear Swedish spoken here and there, we have left for "unknown" areas. The goal is the ancient forests with bison and wolves in the far east, and on the way there we try to find various interesting stops. The first stop was at the Baranow Sandomierski castle.

From Krakow and the north-east
We met a couple of nice Swedish camping neighbours at the campsite in Krakow and stayed for a nice chat and exchange of travel tips. Then the journey began in a north-easterly direction, with a first stop at the castle of Baranow Sandomierski.
Baranow Sandomierski Renaissance castle
The beautiful Renaissance castle located on the Vistula River in south-eastern Poland, is an impressive example of Renaissance architecture. The castle was built in the late 16th century and belonged to the noble Baranowski family. It later passed to a gentleman named Rafał Leszczyński, and it is his family that designed and decorated the castle as it is today.
Tour in (a little) English
We went into the castle and bought tickets for the next guided tour. The girl at the reception desk apologised that the guided tour would be in Polish, and since we hadn't booked in advance, we couldn't object to that. When the guide arrived, it turned out that we were the most single the visitors on the tour ... Maybe not so fun to guide just the two of us in Polish?
In the end, the receptionist took pity on us and showed us around. She spoke reasonably good English, but apologised for not being able to give a proper tour... But at least we got to see the castle, so we were happy!
On to new adventures!
After the visit, we continued even further in a north-easterly direction - all the while aiming for the Bialowieza National Park. Here there are the only remaining part of the giant primeval forest that once covered the entire European lowlands. But maybe there will be some stops along the way too. Hope you join us!
But first, don't miss checking out Peter's film from Baranow Sandomierski Castle! The views from above are, as you can imagine, filmed with his drone.

Ruth in Virginia says:
This journey has been very special; taking me to places
I haven't even thought about, let alone travelling to. There will be no travelling
more for me, but being able to follow you is so much fun. Your reports
are so lively and never long-winded, which I think is important.
The photos are great and the drone is the icing on the cake. The short films
superba.
One has to wonder where the money for such buildings came from, and
rich interiors. The furniture in the last photo is incredibly handsome, almost so
Trump would like to have them in Mar-al-Lago, though would certainly like to have the
more gold. 🙂 By the way, he is in Warsaw right now. - It's 2 am;
couldn't sleep; fortunately you live so you can do what you want,
WHEN you want. 🙂 Looking forward to the report on primeval forest and wolves.
Good night!!!
06 July 2017 - 7:56
Helena says:
How nice to read this comment Ruth, and really glad to hear that you appreciate our reports and films! Interesting that Trump is in Warsaw right now, I actually didn't know that ... Hope you got a good sleep later! 🙂

As you guess, Peter is driving the drone... he likes his toy 😉 I'm not so interested in driving, but I like the pictures! 🙂

I can't believe it, of course I'm following you! You are really professional, nice pictures and wonderful short films, like the drone pictures. Beautiful furniture in the last picture.
Exciting with the primeval forest.

It's exciting and fun to travel to places you haven't heard much about. I feel that the "travel nerve" in me starts then, that's probably when I think it's most fun to travel! 🙂 Wishing a nice trip to the North!

Husis blog says:
Not just all the buildings that are gigantically beautiful. What gardens and shrubs, trimmed with care.
06 July 2017 - 17:39
Helena says:
Agreed, and must say that they are incredibly good at fine gardens in this part of Poland. It's not just the castle gardens that are beautiful. Private gardens are done the same way, but on a smaller scale of course. We drive past the villas along the roads and just gawk!

Matts Torebring says:
I like your goal of always seeking new challenges. We always try to avoid returning to the same places, but sometimes we do, but only in exceptional cases. I'm talking about long journeys, not weekend trips. It's enough that you persuade us to go to several of the places you have visited.
06 July 2017 - 19:02
Helena says:
We are probably the same there. Of course it happens that we return to places we liked, but usually we are most curious about new places! 🙂

BP says:
Poland loves its castles and cathedrals, and they are incredibly well preserved and maintained. The header picture is an absolute highlight and the film was very successful. Like Peter's "toy" - the drone:-)
As always, it will be great fun to follow you during the rest of the trip.
06 July 2017 - 21:14
Helena says:
I'm also starting to really like the drone! You can really get views that are completely impossible to get any other way! 🙂
07 July 2017 - 7:17
Ama de casa says:
Soooo nice! 🙂 And I'm incredibly jealous of the drone....
The bison... The bison that come from Poland have names starting with Po. We had a bull at Skansen called Popek. Those from Stockholm start with Sto, and those from Avesta start with - yes, that's right - Av. 🙂 Fantastic animals 🙂
