Now we're back at home and it's business as usual on Mondays. FREEDOMtravel News. It's really fun to go through the harvest of press releases and see what's been happening in the travel and camping world lately. Today we can report on Kabe's new 2-storey caravan, which airlines are the cheapest, etc. actually and the future of aviation - will it be driverless?

Kabe celebrates 60 years - with 2-storey caravan
Caravan and motorhome manufacturer KABE recently celebrated 60 years at Elmia in Sweden. Jönköpingtogether with about 2000 guests. A unique two-storey caravan was presented for the anniversary celebration.
The spectacular caravan is 26 square metres, has a terrace on the roof - and despite its special design, it's perfectly drivable! Whether or not it will actually go into series production remains to be seen ...
Cheapest flights - really
Low-cost airlines usually seem to have the cheapest prices, but it can be difficult to tell because you often have to add various costs afterwards. Skyscanner conducted a study that looked at average airfares and the cost of baggage, seat reservations and in-flight meals.
Ryanair was the cheapest in terms of airfares and seat reservations, but their baggage fees mean that a ticket with Finnair can be cheaper. Here are the flights with the best value for money:
- Ryanair/Finnair
- Air France
- Norwegian
- KLM/Lufthansa
- Wizz air
- Easy jet
- Vueling
- SAS
Low status - but still popular
According to a Sifo survey by Ticket, all-inclusive is not seen as a high-status holiday. Instead, it is exotic travel to paradise islands, adventure travel and cultural travel that have high status in society.
But despite the low status, more than half of Swedes, 53 per cent, can imagine travelling on All Inclusive. The main reasons for choosing All Inclusive are convenience and simplicity when travelling with children.
What Swedes do on holiday
On a sunshine holiday you want to relax and let go of everyday life, but does that also mean you behave differently? According to a new survey from eBeach.se, we do things on holiday that we might not do at home, some of them better and some of them worse. Here are the Top 10 - what Swedes have done on holiday:
- Paxat sun loungers (46 %)
- Played ball sports on the beach (30 %)
- Smoked in outdoor cafés (24 %)
- Became too drunk (24 %)
- Made the bomb in the pool (20 %)
- Bathed naked (13 %)
- Barbecue on the beach (9 %)
- Kissed in the pool (8 %)
- Playing loud music on the beach (7 %)
- Leaving rubbish at the sunbed (5 %)
Pilotless planes in the future?
Pilotless planes could bring greater safety and "significant economic benefits" to airlines, says the Financial Times. However, travellers do not seem to be on board. In a survey of 8,000 respondents, 54 per cent said that they do not want to fly pilotless, while only 17 per cent were keen to try it, according to di.se. However, younger travellers are more positive about pilotless planes than older ones.

Across the board says:
Imagine ending up on a seasonal campsite next to such a caravan... or even worse, between two! No sun and no view for the whole summer 🙂
We have never tested All Inclusive but a little in that direction had SunVing when we travelled with the children when they were small.
Flying pilotless... well, I don't know if I would dare. But what do I know about who/what is behind the controls. On the other hand - you always come down :p

Helena says:
Haha, if you end up between TWO of those ... then you're a bit unlucky, I must say 😉.

LinizTravel says:
Lots of great news! There is actually a difference between all inclusive and
All inclusive 😉
Cool caravan is next?
Hugs
28 August 2017 - 7:36
Helena says:
Difference ...? Well, I've never even been on an all-inclusive holiday ... so I have no idea 😉 Our next one? Well ... we'll probably stick to motorhomes for a while longer 😉.

åsa in åsele says:
Driverless cars and flying without a pilot, I would rather not, it feels unsafe.
The caravan 🙂 yes, but it is a bit fun 🙂 would like to see it in reality.
28 August 2017 - 7:55
Helena says:
I saw pictures of the caravan inside and it looked really nice, but I think it's a pain in the arse to drive around... 😉.
28 August 2017 - 19:31
JoY says:
The idea that no one is at the controls seems a bit odd, but on the other hand, that person can also have a bad day at work, so ...
That caravan, good thing that tastes are different, otherwise there would only be Carthagos hahaha
Hugs to you both
28 August 2017 - 8:50
Helena says:
I also think it feels tricky without a pilot, but maybe it's just a feeling... maybe it's even better...?
28 August 2017 - 19:32
Role o Carina says:
I would prefer to fly with knowledgeable pilots! 🙂
That caravan is probably good at camping only 🙂 .
Take care......
28 August 2017 - 9:34
Helena says:
So far I also want to fly with experienced pilots. Possibly I will change my mind in the future 😉.

Ditte says:
I'd like a good pilot for my part.
When it comes to airlines and prices, it's also about comfort. For short trips in Europe we have used Ryan is quite a lot and since we often have hand luggage it is convenient. Then we always buy space for more legroom and then it becomes more comfortable. To Asia, we have found Finnair to be good from Helsinki and with reasonable prices.
But it's a jungle to book flights and find decent prices, good comfort and short stops if it's not direct. But I have become really good at it and it works well to compare the airlines' own websites.
The motorhome seems exciting but probably not for small alpine roads...
28 August 2017 - 9:49
Helena says:
Sure it's a jungle to choose an airline. Interesting comparison anyway, I thought! And no, the caravan is probably nothing for alpine roads ... better for long-term camping perhaps 🙂 .

Mr Frank Olsen says:
All inclusive is not a thing! It causes the shop and restaurants in small communities and villages near these big hotels to lose a lot of money and risk bankruptcy and closure. Here in Greece there is talk of banning all-inclusive hotels.
28 August 2017 - 10:13
Helena says:
I understand exactly what you mean, and have actually written about it once before. An important task of tourism is to help local businesses, and you don't do that if you don't even eat in the local restaurants. I can definitely see the problem with that.

Dryden - Traveller's Edition says:
Yes, many people are blinded by the low-cost companies many times, I think, when in fact they can get much better services from other companies. Although it may not be cheaper, it is usually not many hundreds of dollars that differ. And if I have to choose between Ryanair and say AirFrance, SAS or Lufthansa, the choice is simple. It would take a LOT of money for me to consider Ryan in that situation, especially when I then have to get to Skavsta which I fly from Sweden. No, I continue to actively avoid them.
28 August 2017 - 10:53
Helena says:
It can probably be easy to be fooled by the prices when you only see the actual ticket price ... For our part, it will probably be different what we choose. Clearly prefer Arlanda to Skavsta, but sometimes Skavsta has been the best option after all (maybe it was to Malta?).

Ruth in Virginia says:
But what a shame about that caravan. Ugly as hell.
There should definitely be a law on how high a caravan can be.
Looks odd with two wheels in the centre; surely there must be more?
wheels anywhere? - If you need a two-storey building, should you
be rooted to the ground; at least that's what I think. 🙂
Want a pilot in the plane.
I have always behaved in an exemplary way when travelling, of course. 🙂
28 August 2017 - 11:56
Helena says:
Haha, it's reassuring that you've always been on your best behaviour 😉 As for caravans, they usually only have wheels in the middle, as they are towed like a trailer behind a car. (Unlike a motorhome, which of course has more wheels).

Emma, sun like sun? says:
Haha, that caravan made me think of a Youtube film where people go under a viaduct, the 11Foot8 Bridge, and have a hard time realising how low it is despite all the warning signs! It is now called The Car Opener Bridge!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USu8vT_tfdw
There are motorhomes where the wall is pushed out for more space, but there are no caravans/mobiles with a raised roof for an extra (sleeping) floor if necessary? Ouch, now someone is stealing the idea and making a lot of money from it.
28 August 2017 - 14:49
Helena says:
Oh no ... help ... that film! We were a little close to doing that once in Poland, but saw that it said "3 m" and stopped just before (our motorhome is 3.10). The cars behind honked .... but we refused to drive on, so to speak. Got help from some guys to turn around and reverse around ... (And as Alexandra writes further down, there are some small motorhomes, so called plate cars with pop-up roofs).
28 August 2017 - 19:42
Alexandra says:
All vehicles are guaranteed to be driverless in the future and there will be much less accidents! Accidents almost always happen because of the human factor.
Emma, sunshine and sunshine - there are already motorhomes with raised roofs with sleeping space there 😉 There are a couple of different vans with pop-up roofs with sleeping space up there.
28 August 2017 - 16:34
Helena says:
I also believe that driverless cars are coming. I have a bit of trouble with it in my mind yet, but I'm sure I'll get used to it 😉.
28 August 2017 - 19:46
Emma, sun like sun? says:
Ah .... At least I didn't have to lose money!

Lennart says:
The caravan is awesome!
28 August 2017 - 17:35
Helena says:
It was very nice inside when I looked at pictures. Possibly a bit unwieldy on the roads ...!?

Husis blog says:
The owners are probably older people who like having a captain at the controls. Imagine a boring computer voice saying that we are now at an altitude of 10,000 feet, on the left side you see Berlin, etc...?
I don't know if my owners would have driven around with that wagon, at least in the pictures it looks like the biggest and tallest, but certainly very nice.
28 August 2017 - 18:24
Helena says:
I also think it feels good with a pilot, I must say. But I think you might get used to it ... the future will tell 😉 .

BP says:
Hahaha! Had a good laugh at Ruth's comment and as usual I completely agree with her. That caravan is ugly and looks like something from outer space;-)
We almost always fly Norwegian. Ryan Air is located in Nyköping, so if we calculate the cost of petrol and long-term parking, ...
The use of sunbeds is forbidden in Spain, where we go most often. You can even be fined - I think that's good.
All-inclusive - no way, but I understand that it is convenient for families with children if they are served macaroni with ketchup or sausages with bread.
Pilotless planes - well, why not. But I would probably first try travelling in a driverless car;-)
28 August 2017 - 18:42
Helena says:
It's a bit nice that they've banned the paxing of sun loungers, I must say ... feels like a stressful moment haha 😉 And I agree with you, I'll probably have to get used to driverless cars before I go on a driverless aeroplane ...
28 August 2017 - 19:49
Matts Torebring says:
I see the problem with the caravan as mostly financial. A 1.5 million summer house increases in value. The caravan halves its value quite quickly. A private swimming bay, a saw for wood branches in the luggage and a ladder for washing, then it can probably be quite nice. Can be nice to look down on others, in a different and permitted way.
28 August 2017 - 19:35
Helena says:
Love the last comment about "looking down on others in a different and allowed way" ... 😉 And yes, you definitely have a point about the price.
28 August 2017 - 19:50
Ama de casa says:
Cool campervan! 🙂
I am a little anti to all-inclusive, but you should not throw stones - what is a cruise if not just that? And I love to cruise, I have come to realise lately 😀
Joy... That so many people pee in the pool. That's something you don't want to know...
