We haven't had any "FREEDOMtravel News" for a long time, but now it's time! We have received lots of the press release, and I have selected some that I find interesting. Today you can read about the increasing interest in cruises, a new motorhome concept called "Golden Dream" and that many Swedes dream of retiring in Spain.
Table of contents
Interest in cruises is growing
A survey conducted by NBTC Nipo Research, on behalf of Costa Cruises, shows that 64 percent of Swedes between the ages of 30 and 65 want to try a cruise holiday. The survey shows that Scandinavians like the idea of combined sun and city holidays, but want better price transparency.
According to CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association), around 26 million people are expected to take a cruise in 2017, making cruise holidays the fastest growing form of holiday in the world.
New motorhome concept: Golden Dream
Just in time for the 2019 season, the Golden Dream motorhomes are launched. These motorhomes are built on truck chassis and every detail is built according to the customer's wishes. Mats Svensson is the CEO of Golden Dream and he believes that within a few years they will have an annual volume of 15 units. Golden Dream is marketed and sold by Hobby Fritid in Tenhult.
Swedes pack stones home
We pack clothes, alcohol and the occasional rock in our suitcase when we go home from our holiday. This is according to a survey carried out by the holiday home agency NOVASOL in which 1004 Swedes answered what they take home from their holiday. Top 5 things to bring home from your holiday:
- Clothing (40 %)
- Alcohol (32 %)
- Food products (25 %)
- Remember (25 %)
- Stones (21 %)
Swedes like Greek food
A new survey from eBeach.se shows that Swedes' favourite food on sunshine holidays comes from the Mediterranean and especially Greece. 59% of Swedes prefer Greek specialities such as moussaka and souvlaki. At the same time, one in two people cannot resist Italian and Spanish cuisine. Here are the Swedes' favourite foods when travelling:
- Greek food (59 %)
- Italian cuisine (48 %)
- Spanish cuisine (48 %)
- Thai food (32 %)
- Turkish food (29 %)
Swedes want their pension in Spain
Many Swedes dream of retiring to warmer climes, and Spain tops the list of possible destinations by far. This is according to a new survey from the online travel agency eBeach.se. As many as 28 per cent want to move abroad full-time when they retire, and half of them can imagine spending the winter months in another country. The following countries are most appealing:

I'm actually surprised that so many people want to go on a cruise,
yes not only because of my boat phobia ... but more because I have never directly heard anyone I know who has been on a cruise or thought about going away.
But maybe it has to do with where you live?
Perhaps a more metropolitan phenomenon... or?
It would be interesting to know how many % of Swedes who go on a cruise come from the northern part of Sweden.
Have a nice day 🙂

Helena says:
You have heard that we have been on a cruise, haha ... 😉 No but seriously, your comment is a bit interesting! Ten years ago I would have said like you, but in the last five years I have heard a lot about cruises and many in my surroundings - of all ages - who have gone or wanted to go. But maybe it is different in different parts of the country? Would be interesting to know!

åsa in åsele says:
Ha ha 😀 Yes, I have followed Ama & Anders and you & Peter on a cruise 🙂 .
but apart from the blog world's celebrities <3, there are few famous people who tick.
Thanks to you and others' blogs, I get "out in the world" even though I'm sitting at home 🙂 .
18 September 2017 - 8:06
Helena says:
Hehe exactly! You have "been" on a bunch of cruises now ???
18 September 2017 - 9:22
None says:
I have in recent years started to appreciate the convenience of the cruise, I can fully understand how it can grow in popularity, there is always a good view from the restaurant 😉.
18 September 2017 - 8:10
Helena says:
Yes, it is a convenient way to travel! And also a little variety if you do not usually cross 🙂 ðŸ™'
18 September 2017 - 9:23
LinizTravel says:
Interesting! Oh yeah my dream is to move abroad when I retire! Hugs
18 September 2017 - 8:26
Helena says:
Peter is also attracted to the climate so we'll see, although I find it hard to imagine leaving the houseboat 😉 .
18 September 2017 - 9:24
Role o Carina says:
Cruises have not attracted so much, Åland and Finland!
These are the cruises we have done 🙂
Retiring in the warmth sounds tempting 🙂 ...
Take care......
18 September 2017 - 9:01
Helena says:
We have also done Åland and Finland cruises ... but a little different to cruise in the Mediterranean 😉 Have fun!

Ama de casa says:
I had a pretty big wrinkle on my nose when it came to cruises - until I tried it all. Now the wrinkle on my nose is still there, but that's only because of my age 😉.
And I don't think you need to wait until retirement to move to Spain 😀.
18 September 2017 - 9:36
Helena says:
Sometimes you may need to challenge your prejudices a bit ... 😉 And no, you don't HAVE to wait until retirement ... obviously 🙂 ...

Mr Nils-Åke Hansson says:
Did not look at the Golden Dream cars during the day and walked the dog in the evening. Was probably the only novelty at the fair. But a car aimed at a narrower audience. Certainly super luxurious if you want it so the customer chooses how to build it.
18 September 2017 - 9:50
Helena says:
Glad you checked out the Golden Dream! Yes, this is definitely a motorhome for a narrower audience. But there should be that as well 😉

Ditte says:
I can understand that cruises are increasing because it is a convenient way to see a lot and very comfortable. A small disadvantage I think is that there are short stops so one has time many times "just see" but not always experience. But it becomes a matter of balance. Have also read that smaller ships are now also increasing where it is certainly more expensive to cross but also "less factory-like". Depends on what you want. I would love to make a longer cruise in Asia (Have made a shorter one in six days).
As Ama wrote, you don't have to be retired to move to Spain. We have chosen to "commute here" to the summer cottage and think it works very well. It's hard to leave Södermalm and Sweden, which I really like. Now we get a good mixture that we appreciate.
18 September 2017 - 10:31
Helena says:
I understand what you mean about the shorter stops when you cruise. I can cruise again, but I also want to travel in other ways! And no, you do not have to be a pensioner to move ... your alternate accommodation does not seem stupid at all! 😉
18 September 2017 - 19:53
BP says:
That cruises are increasing does not really surprise me. I know several acquaintances (all retirees) who have gone on cruises.
That converted truck is cool, but I wouldn't want to drive it on back roads...
The ranking of favourite foods doesn't surprise me.
But the stones do. One and two are probably what we buy most, but not necessarily in that order;-)
The move to Spain is quite logical given the climate, excellent healthcare and general affordability.
18 September 2017 - 14:27
Helena says:
The stones surprised me too! Then I know a lot of people who go on cruises who aren't retired 😉 As for the motorhome, I feel the same as you. In a way, I love the truck chassis thing. But in the end I want a smooth little motorhome so I can get to all the favourite places 🙂.
18 September 2017 - 19:55
Alexandra says:
Exciting with a motorhome on a lorry chassis! It looks nice - but I still can't help but feel that it feels mostly impractical with such large motorhomes.
I don't want to wait until I'm retired before I move to more southern latitudes, I want to move to Fuerteventura or Tenerife now 😀.
18 September 2017 - 17:58
Helena says:
I also like the truck chassis smell, while I want a smaller motorhome. If we change at some point it will probably be to something smaller. And hehe, wonderful with warmer latitudes! (Can you take your houseboat with you ...? ;))
18 September 2017 - 19:57
Husis blog says:
Yes, cruises have not yet attracted my owners, but who knows what the future holds.
The food also matches my owners, but not the same goods they bring back from their travels abroad.
18 September 2017 - 18:17
Helena says:
What kind of goods do the owners bring with them? We don't always take anything, but if we do, it's probably clothes or alcohol.
18 September 2017 - 19:58
Across the board says:
It's interesting that French cuisine didn't make it onto the food list. A few stones have travelled back home and the winters in Spain are very appealing!
18 September 2017 - 19:34
Helena says:
For us, French food would probably be number one! Or maybe in a shared first place with Lebanese food 😉.
18 September 2017 - 19:59
Matts Torebring says:
The motorhome "truck" would add lustre to the youthful years and life on the road. Perhaps better than a cruise.

To each his own, as my mum used to say 🙂 .

Rosita says:
I believe in cruising, as you know 😉 And also notice a greater curiosity and greater interest in cruises. An information from the survey that I think is essential and that is missing here is: "How many Swedes are asked in the survey?". That is, "What corresponds to 64%?".
Swedish Novus, for example, uses at least 1,000 respondents in a survey to get reasonably "statistically significant" results. In a cruise survey they did in May, the figure was lower. Nice if it has increased so strongly - but it helps to know the number of respondents to be able to make that comparison.
Always fun to read about your NEWS!
18 September 2017 - 21:17
Helena says:
Very true Rosita! I agree that the number of respondents is important to know if the answer is reliable. I checked the press release again, but it's not actually there... Glad you like our News! 🙂
19 September 2017 - 7:01
Rosita says:
I almost suspected it wouldn't be there, but I wanted to double check because I can't find the press release on the web. That's why I wonder if the sample size is really that big if the press release does not describe the number of respondents, which is an extremely relevant question.
