I quite often, work permitting, work from home on Fridays. Yesterday I was working intensively on a document I needed to finish, and in the middle of the day I felt I needed a break to clear my head. It was a walk along Hornsberg beach - with my camera at the ready, of course. So ... follow me through Hornsberg beach park and to Sandö Sugga lighthouse!
Hornsberg beach
I hardly know what it looked like along Hornsberg beach on Kungsholmen before they built the nice "beach park" that is there now. From what I understand, for a long time there was nothing but a large and boring sand and gravel arrangement here. It is quite difficult to understand now when you walk along the nice rounded walking paths along the water, with a view of the sea. Pampas marina, where our houseboat is located.
Hornsberg beach park
According to Wikipedia, the park, which has won several architectural awards, was inaugurated in 2012. In addition to walkways and bathing areas, the detailed plan included natural stone edges, quayside areas, three sunbathing piers (built with the help of the Pampa marina) and tree plantings including handkerchief trees and Caucasian wingnut.
However, I don't dare say if these trees are really there now, and it's a bit difficult to tell at this time of year... Anyone know?
Sandö Sugga lighthouse
As you continue the walk, you will eventually reach the restaurant Piren, which sticks out into the water, and then you will find yourself at Kristineberg's beach. Here is also a small lighthouse, and yesterday I became curious and read the small sign.
It turned out that the lighthouse was built in 1900 on the island of Sandö Sugga, in the major shipping channel between Sandhamn and Stockholm. The lighthouse was powered by gas and was replaced in 1997 with a lighthouse powered by solar panels. In 1998 the lighthouse was donated to Mälarstrand by JM Byggnads AB. Since I am a curious person, I surfed around and found a very charming picture of the lighthouse in its glory days.

Funny story. I have a fondness for lighthouses and love reading about the history behind them. This was a fairly new lighthouse. On the Norwegian coast there are lighthouses you can holiday in and that is one of my dreams.

Lighthouses are charming! Fun with a lighthouse where you can stay on holiday! 🙂 And oh, I wrote the wrong year on the lighthouse first - have corrected now!

What a lovely lunchtime walk you managed to do. There are so many beautiful places in Stockholm. Fun with the lighthouse!
Have a great Saturday! I will go out on a small trip and test my newly purchased outdoor kitchen. Let's see if me and the gas burner get along 🙂 .

Lovely walk, and what a beautiful autumn day! Yes, one must take the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful, colourful autumn days, soon they will be over. Our garden is full of leaves now...(we live right on the edge of a forest) soon all the leaves will have fallen. Have a nice weekend!

Interesting about the lighthouse. Run past there once a week, have thought about why it is so out of place but never stopped. Thanks for the lesson 🙂 .

It's really nice here now and I remember what it looked like before. Funny about the lighthouse. I have seen it but did not know anything about it,
And yes, walking along the waterfront is relaxing, especially when the weather is so nice.

I can understand that you remember what it looked like before. It's not that long ago really, but I didn't used to hang out in these corners back then ...

So nice to see the places you don't really know exist, even though you live "around the corner" or in this case - in the same city. And even better - the weather! What a setting!

Great pictures from our beautiful capital city 😀 Too bad it's so far away. I'm going to Stockholm soon for the flight to Arlanda, that's kind of how it usually is. Actually, I would concentrate on visiting the city for a few days, preferably together with a friend. Let's see.
Sunny hugs ?

What wonderful pictures! Here even I like autumn because of all the beautiful colours. I recognise the walk you did. We chose that particular route last summer. Hornsberg Strand is incredibly nice, both the promenade with all the pitstops and the bathing area itself. And the view is phenomenal!
