Hornsberg beach park and Sandö Sugga lighthouse

I quite often, work permitting, work from home on Fridays. Yesterday I was working intensively on a document I needed to finish, and in the middle of the day I felt I needed a break to clear my head. It was a walk along Hornsberg beach - with my camera at the ready, of course. So ... follow me through Hornsberg beach park and to Sandö Sugga lighthouse!

Hornsberg beach

I hardly know what it looked like along Hornsberg beach on Kungsholmen before they built the nice "beach park" that is there now. From what I understand, for a long time there was nothing but a large and boring sand and gravel arrangement here. It is quite difficult to understand now when you walk along the nice rounded walking paths along the water, with a view of the sea. Pampas marina, where our houseboat is located.

Hornsberg beach park

According to Wikipedia, the park, which has won several architectural awards, was inaugurated in 2012. In addition to walkways and bathing areas, the detailed plan included natural stone edges, quayside areas, three sunbathing piers (built with the help of the Pampa marina) and tree plantings including handkerchief trees and Caucasian wingnut.

However, I don't dare say if these trees are really there now, and it's a bit difficult to tell at this time of year... Anyone know?

Sandö Sugga lighthouse

As you continue the walk, you will eventually reach the restaurant Piren, which sticks out into the water, and then you will find yourself at Kristineberg's beach. Here is also a small lighthouse, and yesterday I became curious and read the small sign.

It turned out that the lighthouse was built in 1900 on the island of Sandö Sugga, in the major shipping channel between Sandhamn and Stockholm. The lighthouse was powered by gas and was replaced in 1997 with a lighthouse powered by solar panels. In 1998 the lighthouse was donated to Mälarstrand by JM Byggnads AB. Since I am a curious person, I surfed around and found a very charming picture of the lighthouse in its glory days.
