Autumn's rising star: Cape Verde
Cape Verde is this autumn's real rising star, according to recent booking statistics from Ticket Privatresor. The archipelago is located a couple of hours south of the Canary Islands and, with 350 days of sunshine per year, is both warmer and sunnier than its more popular northern neighbour.
For the autumn and Christmas holidays, bookings to Cape Verde are increasing by more than 75%. Cape Verde is known for its long sandy beaches, restaurants with locally caught seafood and good opportunities for wind, wave and kite surfers.
Direct flight skellefteå - Malaga
In summer 2018, SAS will launch a direct route from Skellefteå to Malaga. The flights will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays, starting on 16 June. The flights will be operated with a brand new A320neo with 180 seats, and 15-18 % less fuel consumption and therefore less emissions than its predecessor.
Smoking ban on Thai beaches
Thailand introduces a smoking ban on certain beaches from 1 November, according to TT. Heavy fines or, at worst, imprisonment await anyone caught breaking the rules.
To begin with, some 20 beaches, including Bo Phut in Koh Samui, Klong Dao and Phra Ae on Ko Lanta and Patong on the western side of Phuket. The ban is not imposed out of concern for public health, but to curb littering, according to Thai authorities.
Viking Line donates for the environment
Viking Line's environmental campaign with plastic bags continues this year, and it has donated 40,000 euros for environmental work in the Baltic Sea. The donation goes to four different environmental organisations and comes from the sale of plastic bags on the ships.
The plastic bags are made from recycled plastic, with some of the raw material coming from our own recycling on board. The donation is used for information campaigns, environmental work and to maintain waste stations and toilets in the archipelago.
the world's largest cruise ship
In April 2018, Royal Caribbean will launch the Symphony of the Seas, taking over the title of the world's largest cruise ship. The ship offers culinary experiences, a large sports bar, water park, a nine-deck high zipline and the peaceful Central Park area with more than 12,000 live tropical plants.
Also on board is the "world's coolest family cabin" - a suite for eight people that includes a slide from the children's bedroom to the living room, a 5×3 metre LEGO wall and a balcony with a climbing wall and a hot tub.

Across the board says:
I could imagine a few weeks in Cape Verde, with that heat and sun!

Helena says:
I could also imagine that! 🙂 Or at least a week, if I read Dittes comment further down, there doesn't seem to be too much to do 😉.

BP says:
Cape Verde, then I immediately think of Henke Larsson, the football player;-)
Smoking ban on Thai beaches - can't help but laugh there. I mean ALL Thais smoke themselves so ...
The family cabin on Symphony of the Seas - no thanks! Feeling sorry for the parents, no sleeping morning there not;-)
16 October 2017 - 8:41
Helena says:
Haha, no sleeping in for the parents in that cabin ... Smoking ban on the beach sounds good to me 🙂.

Alexandra says:
A smoking ban on the beach sounds good to me! Both because it is unpleasant to lie on old cigarette butts but also because it is unpleasant to lie next to someone who smokes. If I'm walking on a street, I can just walk a little further away, but if I'm on the beach, I don't want to move because my neighbour is smoking!
So that family suite! Looks like a dream haha - I would easily want to live in it 😀.
16 October 2017 - 9:33
Helena says:
I also think it sounds good to ban smoking on the beach. Anyone who wants to smoke can walk a bit further. Has there not been a smoking ban on beaches in some other Asian countries for a long time? And fun that you like the family suite, very different opinions about it I see 🙂.

Mr Nils-Åke Hansson says:
Ideally, plastic bags would disappear completely from shops.

Helena says:
Things are moving forward! 🙂

Ama de casa says:
Wow! A direct line to Skellefteå from Malaga? Maybe time to go "home" to the roots and visit a turn... Have not been up there since 2011.
🙂
16 October 2017 - 9:52
Helena says:
Are you from Skellefteå? Then you can fly back and forth to your family on Tuesdays and Saturdays soon.
16 October 2017 - 18:06
Ama de casa says:
Yes, I come from Skelleftå. Or rather, from a small village outside, although we moved to Schtaaan (as we say about Skellefteå) when I started school 🙂 ).
However, not so much family has left up there, most have moved south. Mine to the Stockholm area and Anders' to Kalmar/Öland 🙂.
However, many children and young people's friends are still up there. So maybe it's time for a trip?
17 October 2017 - 9:25
Ditte says:
I find it surprising that Cape Verde sailed up because in my opinion a week there was too long. Was there many years ago, but apart from the heat then and bathing, I do not know what one does there. Had rather thought Sri Lanka, however, lute longer trip.
Fun and good with line Skellefteå to Malaga. Hope it can be profitable.
As for cruise ships, I prefer them to be smaller and more personalised. But it's good that there is a choice.
16 October 2017 - 10:07
Helena says:
I would actually also prefer slightly smaller cruise ships. We tried the Freedom of the Seas and it was big enough I thought 😉 Happy to test a slightly smaller variant! 🙂
16 October 2017 - 18:07
Mr Steve says:
I have understood that Cape Verde is on the way as there will even be direct flights from Örebro.
16 October 2017 - 10:29
Helena says:
Oops, direct flight from Örebro, that's not bad!

Ruth in Virginia says:
How sad I am when I read about "The world's largest
cruise ships"! 🙁 Why, why should it be necessary to have such a
monsters on the seas? And the family suite sounds exactly like something
you definitely don't want on a cruise. As BP says.
the kids would be up and playing, when the flies want to take it easy.
That kind of luxury makes me feel "not good". 🙂
And then, when it comes to getting all the passengers to the harbour...
thousands queuing on the gangway or waiting for smaller boats.
Sounds like a night march to me.
Interesting to read about Cape Verde - made up of 10 lava islands...
no natural resources except sunshine apparently, so focus on tourism.
OK - that was my Monday night.
Always fun to read your posts,
so you keep up with what's going on in the travel industry.
16 October 2017 - 11:36
Helena says:
It's ok to have some Monday fun, Ruth! 🙂 I also don't really understand why the cruise ships have to be so big. I would rather try a little smaller cruise ship! And Mondays at FREEDOMtravel are for just that - to keep a little up to date on the travel industry 🙂.

Anette says:
Banning smoking on the beaches here is perhaps a good start. Unfortunately, the problems with other rubbish, such as plastic and styrofoam that floats ashore on the beaches here in Asia are much greater, and there are also large mountains of rubbish behind/above the beaches. There is a lot to do here, but certainly the smoking ban is a small, small step on the way.
16 October 2017 - 12:06
Helena says:
Soooo sad with all the littering on beaches, not only in Asia but also in Europe (on the beaches where it is not cleaned). Yes, the smoking ban can be seen as a small step forward!
16 October 2017 - 18:11
Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
As usual, it is lucky that we are different. I think the mega-sized ship sounds absolutely terrible and about Cape Verde I have heard from several people that apart from sun and bathing there is not much to experience, so so far it definitely does not fit on the "to-do list". However, thumbs up for the smoking ban on the beaches.
16 October 2017 - 18:18
Matts Torebring says:
Cape Verde sounds nice, with all its sunny days, although I can't take the campervan there.
16 October 2017 - 19:02
Husis blog says:
The owners are going to Cape Verde this winter. They have also heard that there is not much to do there. There are some excursions to go on and then the owners get sun and swimming in January, yes, they will probably manage that.
Listen to some podcasts and just enjoy the peace and quiet.
Let's see what they say when they get home.

Ann-Louise says:
I have read about that family suite before, it seems great but is quite sure that we would never be able to afford to live in it 🙂 However, I am a little eager to test that particular ship if we ever go on a cruise.
