Last Saturday we enjoyed a seafood buffet at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, together with Peter's son Robin, his wife Alexandra and their friends Robin and Elin. It has long been a "tradition" for us to visit the Grand's seafood buffet every other year or so, and some of the family always book a bunch of tickets for the following year.
Let's show you some pictures from the delicious buffet. Amazingly good of course, but not quite as amazing as previous years.
Enjoying a seafood buffet at the Grand
You go to Grand's seafood buffet to feast on shellfish. You'll find most seafood you could wish for: prawns, crayfish, crayfish, crab, king crab, lobster, oysters, mussels, scallops and razor clams. There is also salmon in various forms and plenty of seafood dishes: salads, soups, omelettes, pâtés and stir-fries.
We enjoyed all the good stuff, of course, and yet we were almost slightly disappointed. We have been here before and we had high expectations. Now we felt that the range of dishes had decreased and in some cases the level also felt slightly lower than before. It was of course far from bad (well, not really!), but you pay for perfection and we didn't really think they lived up to that this year. Nevertheless: very good!
Feast on desserts
Neither of us is a big fan of desserts, but I must admit that I couldn't resist the desserts at the Grand Hotel. My absolute favourites were two lemon-flavoured desserts: a small lemon cake and a mousse called calamansi cream. Peter was also fond of the chocolate cake served with fresh berries.
After-party
After the visit to the Grand Hotel, we moved to Robin and Alexandra's home for an after party with bubbles and whiskey. What an afternoon and evening!
Anna in Dubai says:
Looks delicious! A dinner with oysters that doesn't end in crackling always seems like a successful evening.

Helena says:
Haha, then we can conclude that it was a successful evening ðŸ™'

Wow what a night!!! I love seafood! But sad that it was not so good.... it still costs a lot as well.... how similar Peter & Robin are. Have a wonderful day hugs

You can never go wrong with a seafood buffet at the Grand (although it used to be even better). Yes, people say they're the same 😉.

åsa in åsele says:
That's a bit of a double whammy 😀 .
*Fantastically good of course, but still we were not really, really satisfied.
We enjoyed all the good stuff, of course, and yet we were a bit disappointed.
But I think I understand what you mean 🙂 and the end of all good things seems to be the evening in its entirety 🙂.
Have a nice Tuesday.

Helena says:
Haha, yes it was probably a bit double ... 😉 So, it was good and tasty. It's just that it was even better before, and that you have very high expectations because of the price and the place.

Such nice pictures of all the delicious things on offer!
It's a great idea to book yourself in every now and then to have a good meal with your loved ones, to make it a tradition.
I can understand not being really, really satisfied. You always compare with what you've been through before and if it was the top of the top, you feel the difference if the top has dropped even if only a little bit and still it's very good.
Have a good time too!

Helena says:
Yes, you describe it well! It was very good and nice! But in the past, the buffet was bigger and there were, for example, different kinds of oysters and different flavours, and a guy behind the counter who could tell you about them. Now it was kind of reduced to one kind of oyster lying in the middle of a table, a bit like that.

How delicious! You are good at adding moments of luxury to your life. I think it's good to treat yourself to that.

It is important to take advantage when you have the opportunity! 🙂

Alexandra says:
Sad that it did not feel perfect! But at least it looks really tasty in the pictures! 😉

Helena says:
Yes, and it was! But in the past, the buffet was bigger and the quality even better, and you compare (and pay a lot). But it was certainly good!

Anette says:
I have to say that it looks absolutely delicious....
Good idea with an after party, we should have thought of that when we had a seafood buffet for lunch the other day. But we would have had to call it an after (dinner) party.

Helena says:
Afternoon party doesn't sound too bad either 😉 .

Across the board says:
Such a shame that it didn't live up to expectations, but you'll see that it will be better next time. At least it looks insanely good!
10 October 2017 - 10:06
Helena says:
It was very good, so it feels almost silly to say that it did not live up to expectations. But it has been even better before and you pay a lot, so you have high expectations 😉.

Ditte says:
A bit sad that Grand didn't quite live up this time. But it looked very good! We also go here from time to time both for seafood buffet and for New Year and have always been super satisfied. But obviously they did not reach all the way now. And considering the price, everything should be top class, I think.
But you looked like you were having a great night anyway.

Helena says:
Peter was unhappy with some of the seafood he got and the size of the buffet has shrunk considerably since we were last here. But it was still good! 🙂

Marina says:
So deliciously wonderful! (Although I can do without the oysters...)
10 October 2017 - 16:30
Helena says:
I didn't like oysters before either, but have started to learn more and more 😉 .

BP says:
Considering what a seafood buffet costs at the Grand Hotel, I understand exactly what you mean. You want the (right) value for money! But there was absolutely nothing wrong with the presentation. The pictures were simply superb:-)
10 October 2017 - 19:22
Helena says:
Something like that. The buffet was of course very good, but all the seafood was not perfect and the buffet has shrunk considerably. And as I said, you pay a lot ...

Lena - good for the soul says:
Wow, how wonderful to feast on a lot of seafood (even if you were a little disappointed). Fun with the after party too. I see that my favourite whiskey is there! 🙂 I did not like whisky at all before, but since I got a taste of Laphroaig, I now like wirre. Or single malt then... 🙂 May seem a bit strange because it is quite heavy. Good!
Hug Lena

Helena says:
Yes, there was some whiskey tasting 😉 Glad you like Laphroaig. It's a little too smoky for my taste, but otherwise I like whiskey 🙂 .
