What's the easiest way to get rid of a sofa when you're home alone? Last Friday, when I was at a conference in Jönköping, Peter was busy. We had ordered a new sofa to be delivered at ten o'clock and before that the old sofa, which was broken, had to be taken out to make room for the new one. But how would that happen?

Getting rid of a sofa from the houseboat
The first challenge was getting the sofa out of the houseboat. Peter dragged it out onto the deck and then managed to get it over to the jetty alone (!). I wondered if he could ask a neighbour for help, but he is so afraid of "disturbing" that he didn't want to.
"Ok, take care of yourself!", I said on the phone from the train because I knew it wouldn't be easy. How did it go? At one point, he lost his balance and got the sofa on his big toe so that it is now bright blue and large, but the couch ended up on the dock as it should ...
Get stuff picked up with TipTapp
If you want to get rid of bulky items (furniture, appliances, old Christmas trees, etc.) and are willing to pay a small fee to avoid organising transport, you can use the Tiptapp service.
I think I should tell you that this posting not is sponsored (we notice always out sponsored posts by writing "In collaboration with ..." at the top). However, Peter's son Robin works at Tiptapp and we have long thought that the service seems smooth. Now we had a reason to try it out! Peter started by driving the sofa from the boat to the marina.
How TipTapp works
You get the app called Tiptapp and link your credit card to the app. When you want to get rid of an item, you create an advert and tell them how much you are prepared to pay to have the item collected. We wrote 500 SEK and received 25 responses in 30 seconds!
The next step is to choose who will collect (you can check the satisfaction of other customers) and agree on a time. You don't have to be at home when the collection takes place if you can arrange for the item to be left outside or for the collector to be given the door code.
The collector gets most of the money and Tiptapp gets a certain percentage. What is collected must be recycled or reused and Tiptapp has a system to check that this is actually done.
New sofa
The new sofa is a sofa bed. Our idea with having a sofa bed is partly that it will be easier to have overnight guests who sleep over in the living room and partly that we will be able to rent out the houseboat when we are travelling, and that there will then be more sleeping places. We have bought the sofa at Bäddsofflagret and so far we are very happy!

Hahaha - It did not seem in any way to be a ONE-man job.
(el. ENSAMjob), but Peter was determined and succeeded - even if the
the result was a blue toe. 🙂
The new sofa is very nice - seems to suit Peter perfectly.
A well-deserved rest after a tough day.
(couldn't you have TipTapped the sofa in the water???)

Helena says:
Haha, tipping the sofa into the water would probably have been easier ... but perhaps not entirely appropriate 😉 And yes, Peter did fit on the sofa...? 🙂

Handy man saves himself. Nice sofa.

Helena says:
Haha, yes, that's probably what he's trying to do! But sometimes it can be good to ask for help, I try to point out sometimes 😉.

Anything goes if you want it to, isn't that what they say?

Peter is quite stubborn ... 😉

Ama de casa says:
Good idea there, and nice sofa too 🙂 Good (but a bit foolhardy) of Peter to try to drag the sofa out himself. The back ... Not good for the back, and obviously not for the toe either.
Here, the Spanish garbage recycling system applies. Things you want to get rid of are just put out on the street. Usually they get a foothold long before the rubbish truck arrives.
When we replaced almost all the furniture in the living room, our plan was to display the furniture (which was whole) a little at a time. But then we contacted a second-hand shop here that came and picked up the stuff. Then we did not have to drag them out ourselves, and we also got a little money. Very practical 🙂

I try to get him to ask for help sometimes ... but it usually doesn't go well. The Spanish recycling seems pretty smooth, I must say! 😉

Tough job getting that sofa out of the boat yourself!
Seems smooth and good with TipTapp 🙂 .
Enjoy your new lovely sofa......

Strong work by Peter and the result was good even if it cost a blue toe.
There are so many smart services (e.g. Tipptapp) available nowadays.
The new sofa is both stylish and comfortable.

There are more and more services of this type, not bad at all!

The first thing I thought of when I read was - how did Peter's back go! Obviously perfectly fine. Better a blue toe than a back injury;-)
The tipping service is great, and so is the sofa. Nice!

Helena says:
Yes, my back actually survived. Amazingly enough! Right now, Peter can only use his roomiest boots, but at least he's lucky to have a pair of shoes to wear... 😉.

Good tip for unwieldy stuff, e.g. we have a large lift truck and a small car but on our tip, motorhomes are not allowed to enter and a sofa does not fit in our Smart car. Maybe there will be a tip for a similar need ????

Helena says:
Very smoothly we thought! I think the service is so far only available in Stockholm and Gothenburg, but they are expanding and the plan is to be available throughout Sweden!

Where we live, we have two ways of getting rid of old things. Sell it on a local sales site, which often works well, for a few kronor. Or you can call one of the aid organisations here in Höganäs. They pick up free of charge. Cheaper to live in the country. We have recently bought a very nice TV couch that cost five figures for a thousand dollars. Seems unused. Nice sofa you bought !!!!

Helena says:
It sounds like you got a really good deal on your sofa!!! We have also left things to Myrorna sometimes, and we have bought things on Blocket (including our dining table with chairs). In this case, the sofa was so broken that it felt difficult to sell or similar.

Impressive to say the least to get that sofa ashore but with stubbornness you sometimes manage more than you think. Smart way to get rid of the old one and nice was the new one!

Glad you like our new sofa! 🙂

How nice Peter got to rest properly after such hard work. I hope the toe doesn't fall off 😉.

The toe is still there ... but does not want to wear any shoes except the most spacious boots ... 😉 .

A fun favour, but kudos to Peter for not throwing it away anyway.

It would probably have been easier to throw the sofa into the lake, but it didn't feel like a good option... 😉.

Husis blog says:
Seems like a good service, maybe the owners should try it now that they are about to change their sofa as well.
The sofa also seems to be really good as a sofa bed, because you can sleep without unfolding it...?
14 November 2017 - 19:33
Helena says:
It is comfortable to sleep in as it is, if you are alone. But if you're two, it's probably more comfortable to make a bed ... 😉.

Clever and thanks for the tips, but writes as above.... No "one-man job directly!!! Jesus...
Nice new investment?
