I (Helena) have a new blog computer. My old laptop, an Acer, has been fantastic, but after nine faithful years it was time to get a new one. Recently I've had problems with smudges on the screen and the computer has started to make a humming noise, so it feels like it's working hard.
Still, it was probably lucky that Peter ordered a new computer for me while I was at work. I have a tendency to be stingy when it comes to things like this and like to think that it is "unnecessary" and that I will probably manage for a while ...
Lightweight and flexible blogging computer
For me, it is important that a blogging computer is light and flexible. I often carry it in my backpack on both long and short trips, and you don't want it to be heavy or take up too much space. The HP Spectre comes in two sizes and we chose the smallest, which is 13.3 inches and weighs just 1.3kg. Despite being so small, the screen is relatively large as the display has an unusually narrow edge.
Case and long battery life
You also got a case, which is very good when you carry the computer with you and want to take care of it. Another good thing is that the battery life is long, up to 15 hours if you believe HP's website. Now it also says that the battery life can vary depending on a variety of factors, but the battery life will probably at least be longer than on my previous laptop.
Battery life is important to me because we travel a lot and I want to be able to use the computer on planes and the like, when it is not certain that there is a possibility of charging. Another special thing about this computer is that you can fold it into different positions (see the header image), so you can use it much like an iPad or to show photos and presentations.
Dual computers for a while
Now it will take a while to set up the new computer so I can use it. I have to download various programmes that I need and upload pictures and documents from my other computer. I will probably have to use them twice for a little while before everything is ready. It feels like I will be satisfied, but of course it remains to be seen. Are you happy with the computer you have?

How wonderful to have a new, fresh and fast computer. And difficult before everything is in place. But then!

After 9 years, you're definitely worth a new computer. ? We had the computer you bought at my previous workplace... and unfortunately none of us were particularly happy with it. It felt very weak and became slow quickly when you had more programmes up. But that was about 1 year ago so maybe this is a more recent upgrade!
I have a MacBook and can't imagine anything else. Once you go Mac you never go back? But it is unfortunately quite expensive.
19 November 2017 - 9:04
Helena says:
Sorry you weren't happy with it, I hope I will be! However, I don't agree with your conclusion regarding the Mac. Before I bought my Acer, I bought a Mac that I used for a month. I was so angry and frustrated all month that I could have thrown the computer out the window, but I came to my senses and sold it on Blocket. I didn't understand anything about Macs. Maybe I'm stupid, but I really couldn't get anything to work. So ... once a Mac, never a Mac again 😉 .
19 November 2017 - 10:32
Alexandra says:
Haha yes, it is clearly different from PC. But mainly it is convenient with Mac if you have both IPhone and IPad because they fit well together (that's the whole Apple idea) ?
19 November 2017 - 21:57
Helena says:
Alexandra, I'm sure the Mac is great (Peter has a Mac by the way), but I really went crazy for it myself. By the way, I also have an iPhone and it is very compatible with PC and syncs very easily etc, no problem at all! 🙂

Felt like you were in need of a new computer with better capacity. And a lot has happened in the field in nine years.
I have a MaxBookAir that I am very fond of. It is also old, nine years old, but is light - just over 1kg and I am very happy with it. I realise that I will soon need a new one and it will also be a Mac. Of course, they are quite expensive, but since I am so happy with it, it will be another one.
Good luck with your new one! Hope you will be happy!

If you like Mac, you should continue with Mac, and vice versa I think. For me Mac was a mystery (I didn't understand anything) but I know that many people love Mac.

I have an ASUS (it says so on it) which is ... (shouts to Anders) ... 3.5 years old and weighs 1.5 kilos. Haha! It is not me who chooses the computer, I have zero control, but I am very happy with the one I have. It has a touch screen too, which is good for me who is extremely mouse dependent. The times you sit tight (airplane, car, etc.), it is very good to be able to poke instead of using that plate that I am worthy of 🙂.
Hope you will be super happy with your new blog! 🙂

Both the husband and one daughter have something similar to your new one and are very happy. Personally, I bought a mac when I last changed computers and it is absolutely wonderful for writing and many other things, but I still don't agree with it when it comes to image storage. It's much messier than it was on my last one, and I'm not entirely convinced that I'll stick with apple when it's time to switch next time...
19 November 2017 - 10:30
Helena says:
It was especially the image management that I found difficult on the Mac. But I know that many people love Macs, so I understand that it has its advantages. I'm glad your husband and daughter are happy with theirs!

Gets a little jealous 😀 I also need a new computer to think here and there ... but hopefully it will be a new computer here in the near future.
(I've managed to crack the screen on my current laptop, so I need a new computer).
Have a nice Sunday 🙂

9 years is probably a very long time for today's technology, maybe it means that you have taken good care of your computer. Hope your new one lasts just as long.
My owner mostly sits with his toad but also has a MacBook Air with him sometimes. He's stuck in the world of Apple, but he says he's happy with their products.

One of my sons has exactly the computer you show. He is so happy and the battery life is long! He uses it both at work and at home. After 10 years with a Mac, I switched to a Microsoft surface book this autumn. I'm very happy so far. I can disconnect the screen and use it as a tablet. I can also use the pen on the screen. I don't miss the Mac. Have also gone from iphone to Android as well and am super happy. You simply get more for your money!
Good luck with your new computer!

Glad to hear that your son has this computer and is happy with the battery life! Glad you are also happy with your products. Can agree that the PC is more affordable, at least they don't cost as much 😉.

Congratulations on your new computer! As usual, I remind you that you should name it. In this case, it's really easy:-) Think of the last Bond film which was called "Spectre". So either you name your computer Bond or Daniel (Daniel Craig plays Bond).
After 10 years it was really time! The best thing about Bond-Craig is the long battery life WOW! I have a regular laptop whose battery life is just under two hours. Oh the computer is 3 1/2 years old.
Hope you will enjoy Bond or Daniel;-)
PS. Totally agree with you about Mac. Can't handle it either. If you are used to PC you are;-) DS.
19 November 2017 - 15:27
Helena says:
Haha, what great name suggestions! 🙂 The battery life of many laptops is short, so I hope that I will get much longer battery life now!

Nine years with your last computer sounds amazing. I'm on my 3rd Mac, since 2007. I have pulled out my first, ten year old Mac, when my 2nd and last Mac failed. The oldest gets hot and I only dare to run it for short periods of time. Good luck with your new computer.

Congratulations on your new computer!
I have to say that the best computers have been the stationary ones, preferably HP. I am not an Apple user. However, I bought an iPad, because I thought, that NOW I have bought the best computer of my life, but was disappointed, it is good at everything except blogging.
I now have an Acer laptop as my main computer and I have connected a keyboard to it. On my Telia fibre it is fast and secure.
Hope you will be happy with yours! 😀

Stick with HP, currently a laptop. Works very well, good size and screen. I don't want something too small as I do a lot of work with photos. The only problem is that it was bought here in Crete so the keyboard is "international", i.e. English. I still get errors sometimes with ö ä å.... Good luck with your new computer!

Now I got a little jealous... I can't wait for a new computer! I have a 4 year old Lenovo 13.3 inch as a mainframe... and 10.1 inch, Asus 2 in 1 when I travel... the later models of 2 in 1 I am not happy with the ergonomics... you should be able to have it half open as a computer without support...
Well... never buy anything with half-eaten apples starting with I...more than enough with the work I-phone....
Will certainly be great.with your new computer! The transitions between different devices will be smoother and smoother with Google, One drive etc.:-).
Like you, I don't spend a lot of money on the computer, but nowadays a phone costs like 2.5-3 computers... (Samsung Note 9).
