We wish all our readers and friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We will celebrate in peace and quiet at home, while we cure ourselves of various germs. There will be some good food, some good TV series and, not least, searching for a trip for the New Year.
How will you celebrate Christmas?
I (Helena) was talking about Christmas with my colleagues yesterday, and we realised that people can have very different relationships with Christmas. Two of my colleagues told me about relatives who have to have everything. perfect on Christmas, so that it doesn't feel like a failure. We're a little bit the opposite, and for us the details don't matter so much, as long as we get to be together and have a good time.
Some people celebrate traditionally and others ignore tradition and travel abroad. Some celebrate big with lots of relatives and others celebrate small, or perhaps in solitude. We wish all our friends and readers a great Christmas, no matter how you celebrate! Maybe we can all just be extra nice to each other online in the coming days?
What is important to you at Christmas? How will you celebrate Christmas this year?
Across the board says:

Ama de casa says:
For me, Christmas is all about lights. Preferably with hysterical flashing lights mixed with candles. Then we celebrate in all simplicity with good friends, with Christmas lunch. Preferably outside in the sun on the terrace, but it depends on the sun's favour, of course. We have an indoors to be in as well.
Hope you find a good New Year's trip now then!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🙂

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and hoping you are gathering strength for the New Year's journey.
We're in Spain this year, which is a bit new, because in previous years we've travelled to Thailand. We are no longer bound by tradition and it feels good. Maybe Christmas lunch tomorrow on the terrace and later in the evening seafood and bubbly. Christmas Day we party with a larger "gang" at a local.
Have fun!

Helena says:
We are not so traditional either. We have bought some alternative food 🙂 Wishing you a nice Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you too! I hope for a quiet Christmas this year, I need it... The best thing about Christmas is to have time to spend with your loved ones, I think.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you too!
It sounds great that you are celebrating in peace and quiet at home this year. I hope you find your New Year's trip.
This year we celebrate more quietly than usual. Christmas Eve with porridge lunch for the "big family" and Christmas Eve with the "little family". The rest of the Christmas holidays D, me, Sigge and Osborne will just enjoy and take it easy here at Getingstorp. For the first time ever, we are without a Christmas tree this year.
23 December 2017 - 12:38
Helena says:
It sounds like you have a good plan for a nice Christmas, even without a tree (we don't have one either)! Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Grey New Hair!!!
Hope you will be 100% again soon. And take it easy over New Year!
Food seems to have become very important in Swedish Christmas celebrations.
Was it like that in the past - I mean, not in ancient times when I lived
in Sweden but, say, 20-30 years ago?
The best thing about Christmas these days is,
when it is over. 🙂 The time leading up to Christmas
is too overwhelming and long !!!!
Have lost the appetite for Christmas. Our Thanksgiving in November,
is the best weekend. Will at least have fun with the daughter
and, in honour of the day, I will make a Jansson with Swedish anchovies.
I bought online.

Interesting reflection on food! I do not dare to answer it for sure ... It feels like it was perhaps even more traditional in the past, and now everyone wants to make their own variant, some want to make more vegetarian, etc. Maybe we talk more about it? At the same time, it feels like the demands to cook everything yourself are lower than before, I think 😉 But it feels like it is very different in different families! And haha, you do not sound so insanely excited about Christmas 😉 We think it's nice to be free, but if we are to be honest, we do not do much that has to do with Christmas really ... 😉.

Here it will be a quiet Christmas celebration with Lars' daughter tomorrow and then a couple of relaxing days before a couple of working days between the weekends. Saw in some Instagram comment that it is leaning towards an Israel trip??? Sounds very interesting in that case.
A very Merry Christmas to you!

It is fortunate, then, that we are all different and can celebrate Christmas as we see fit.
I have always said that Christmas is for children. Since we do not have any, it will be an almost normal weekend for us. However, some Christmas delicacies were bought yesterday:-)
Wishing you a great Christmas too, however you celebrate it!
PS. Is there anything worse than visiting a perfect home!!!???? I feel very uncomfortable in such environments, as I always have to be afraid of a crumb falling on the floor. DS.
23 December 2017 - 15:59
Helena says:
We are probably a bit like you. We have bought some delicacies (not so Christmassy though haha) and are happy to be free. But no Christmas decorations can be found in our boat 😉 Wishing you a nice Christmas holiday, just as you want it!

I'm one of the % who has Christmas anxiety, but I'm celebrating Christmas and trying to make everything as good as possible for Elin. So far, presents and sweets are the most important things so it will be a quiet Christmas - on Christmas Eve I'm taking my parents out for a turkey dinner.

Because I have a mentally handicapped brother, I usually take him home for Christmas and New Year so that his assistants can spend Christmas with their families. And Mikael likes being at home with us. Otherwise, we have cut down on the actual Christmas food and this year 2 sons and their families will celebrate with us and we are going to have a "knytis". ? We have once celebrated Christmas abroad, but it did not feel like Christmas in Sweden, so in recent years we have flown home to celebrate here at home... Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Have time for a quick lunch with the children tomorrow. Then it will be directly to work "as usual" which I am completely ok with, have done so for all years. Stupid to break a tradition hahaha
Since we were away for the first three weeks of December, we have no tree this year. Which is a bit empty but really nice to not have to pick with baubles back and forth for just one week.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you
Hugs

Even though there was a lot to do in the kitchen, thanks to Lina's Christmas box, you might think that there would be a big celebration, but no. It will be our sons, a nephew and a brother-in-law who come here and eat Christmas food with us. I don't want to miss "Karl-Bertil Jonsson's Christmas Eve" on TV. Then I go off to work and work Christmas Eve night and also Christmas Day night!
Merry Christmas to you both!!!

I drove the motorhome up to Västerbotten for Christmas celebrations with my family. Snow and cold and tasteful coffee and the Christmas table. The main thing is that we get to socialise.
Ps. Warm and cosy in the motorhome with Christmas decorations and mulled wine.

Lena - good for the soul says:
Happy holidays! I celebrated Christmas Eve with my sister and her family and our parents. Today parents and kids are coming to my house to celebrate Christmas. So cosy! I'm probably a bit traditional, but I'm definitely not tradition-bound. I don't break down if it's not done in a certain way. Life is so much nicer if you can be a little open-minded and relaxed, I think.
Hug Lena
