Do you know what was the most Googled topic in 2017? We present what Swedes googled the most during the year, among other things related to travelling. We also give Santa Claus some tips on where to find Swedes this year when he hands out his Christmas presents. We are also testing a new way of presenting our travel news. We have received feedback that the news feels a bit impersonal. So today we'll be presenting more personal reflections and only our own photos. What do you think - lift or diss?

Most Googled in 2017
Google has released its 2017 search trend statistics. "With over 55 million searches a day across Sweden, the lists give us an insight into some of the major events, people, phenomena and issues that defined the year," says Andrea Lewis Åkerman of Google Sweden.
Travel-related searches include getting married in Las Vegas, how long it takes to get a passport, how many countries there are in the world and what 'farang' means. Here are the top searches in each area.

- Who question: Who is the SR profile?
- Why question: Why do we celebrate Easter?

Where Santa finds Swedes
Many Swedes celebrate Christmas at home, but there are also many who go away for the holidays - either abroad or within the country. According to booking statistics from Booking.com, the following destinations and types of accommodation are most popular over Christmas. We ourselves have celebrated Christmas abroad many times, and once we met Santa in Sälen.
- Abroad: Copenhagen, Bangkok, London, New York, Miami
- Sweden: Stockholm, Arlanda, Gothenburg, Malmö, Västerås
- Accommodation in Sweden: Hotel, hostel, bed & breakfast, guest house, apartment
Increased tax on new mobile homes
The Caravan Club of Sweden writes in its newsletter that the Swedish Parliament will decide before Christmas on the new tax proposal that will apply to cars registered from 1 July next year. The decision means dramatic tax increases for new caravans in the first three years.
The aim is to use carrots and sticks to encourage people to buy more environmentally friendly vehicles. However, the Caravan Club believes that the opposite may be true for motorhomes, as the newest motorhomes are the best in this respect. What is your view on this?
New ship wines at Viking Line
On 1 January 2018, Viking Line will have new ship wines on the shelves in the duty-free shops, restaurants and bars on board the company's seven ships. For the period 2018-2019, an organic French red wine, an Australian white wine, an Italian sparkling wine and a genuine champagne are now presented. According to Viking Line, the interest in wine has increased among customers, and therefore they are investing in quality, but at the same time at reasonable prices.
Finland and Norway better at digitalisation
Sweden falls behind both Finland and Norway The survey is based on responses from more than 3,000 CEOs and CFOs in the private and public sector, in small and medium-sized enterprises. Among other things, Finland is the best when it comes to digitised invoice management. The only thing we are best at in Sweden is automated payments. Digitalisation is coming fast now, so we think it's important to keep up!

Lena - good for the soul says:
Hmm, "...the news feels impersonal...". I wonder how it could be personal to you, or anyone else, since it is news. How could you have managed to personalise the news?! But maybe I'm thinking too narrowly. In any case, I like your news coverage. Good breadth!
Have a great start to the week!
Hug Lena

Helena says:
Haha, no, you're actually right Lena. The news itself probably can't be personalised. But maybe we can use our own photos (instead of press photos or image banks) and possibly comment on the news.

Tax people's freedom too. So in the past, cars have been tax exempt for 5 years.

Åsa says:
Do people have to google why we celebrate Easter nowadays?! I thought everyone knew that!
18 December 2017 - 10:09
Helena says:
Obviously not 😉

I find your news and trend spotting one day a week fun; sometimes really interesting and sometimes less so.
Last week, we were just discussing how spoilt we have become. if a topic of discussion comes up where people have different guesses, just go and ask "Mr Google" and the perhaps interesting discussion has ended before it even started.
Yes, we can wonder about the taxation of motorhomes, as we have heard sums that are definitely on the pain threshold, and taxing new motorhomes that are probably much more environmentally friendly than our older ones also sounds a bit suspicious.

Helena says:
Thank you for your feedback on our news!
One wonders what will happen to the taxation of motorhomes. They probably don't want people to buy diesel cars, but with motorhomes it gets weird. The new ones are definitely better than the old ones!?

Nice to have your own pictures for the news! Must be fun for you too, because it then becomes to dig a little in the archive, and it is always both fun and nostalgic. Yes, I think so anyway 🙂
18 December 2017 - 10:22
Helena says:
We will probably use more of our own photos. Not always, but when it fits.

I also ask myself how news can be personalised... You base your news on press releases that you receive, and these are supposed to be impersonal, as I learned a few decades ago....
Often press photos are also included, but here I think your own, relevant photos are preferable. So suddenly the Monday post has become personal:-)
I recognise myself in the who question.
It was surprising that Sweden is behind Finland and Norway in digitalisation. Interesting.
18 December 2017 - 13:24
Helena says:
Yes, you are right. The news can't be personal, but we can use our own pictures, when appropriate. As for the questions, I was surprised by How to make slime? I don't have children at home, but I had no idea that slime was so popular... 😉 I was also surprised that Sweden is behind its neighbours when it comes to digitisation, so we need to pick up the pace! 😉

Goatfish says:
Sweden is no longer as advanced as one might think. And this applies to several issues and topics.
One might wonder why.
Most Googled? Yes, it's clear that people's curiosity is reflected, especially during tricky events.
But that people do not know why we celebrate Easter, it surprises me greatly. Maybe it will be the same with Christmas, that people think it's because of the Christmas ham and the parcels 😀.
Have fun!
18 December 2017 - 15:38
Helena says:
Maybe we sometimes think we are more ahead of the curve than we are 😉 We can probably be pretty far ahead sometimes, but not always .... And yes, you can think that you should know why you celebrate Easter! 😉 But historically, I can indeed find it interesting, a little how it has changed over time, why the Jews celebrate Easter, etc.

Exciting that Arlanda is one of the most popular destinations 😉 I guess it's because you spend the night there when you're on your way somewhere else...but still a little fun haha.
18 December 2017 - 18:19
Helena says:
I also reacted to Arlanda. Statistics always give only a certain side of the truth, then you have to try to fill in the gaps yourself ... 😉.

Marina says:
Fun with "the most googled", a little puzzled by the "how do you do the slime question", but there is certainly a reason. Then you can think about how many times Martin Timell has been googled in the last few months, because if he is the most googled person during the year and since he really didn't become in the spotlight until quite late in the year, then....
18 December 2017 - 18:30
Helena says:
I was also puzzled by the slime issue, but perhaps parents with children at home will understand better? And yes, Timell was probably googled a lot for a while ...
