Have you ever wondered whether you should invest in a caravan or a boat? Then why not get a boatvan? Then you get both in one! Upplands Bil & Fritidscenter showed this unusual amphibious caravan at the Caravan Stockholm fair, and we wanted to take a closer look.
What is Boatvan?
The Boatvan is both a mini caravan and a boat, at the same time. The small amphibious trailer is 4.6 metres long and weighs 740 kilos. You attach it as a trailer behind your car (or camper van) and when you get to the water you have a stable little boat. A pop-up roof provides light, ventilation and more interior space. There's also a solar panel on the roof, so you get electricity to charge technical equipment.
Welcome to take a look!
Inside the boatvan are tables and benches, which you can easily convert into a wide bed when it's time to sleep. There's also a gas hob and sink for cooking, a box to store any fish you might catch and storage space under the benches. There are also water-resistant speakers so you can listen to music at sea.
For whom is the boatvan suitable?
We spoke to the seller, who thinks the caravan boat is particularly suitable for fishermen and other people who enjoy being out in nature. It has also been sold to a number of people who plan to attach it to the back of their motorhome, giving them both a boat and additional sleeping space.
The price for this particular model is SEK 314,000. A bit charming and different, we must say, or what do you think? Check out the film to see the boatvan "in action"!

Not bad for those who need a boat and a place to sleep.
Fun with a little new thinking 🙂

Isn't it fun with a little new thinking 🙂 ?

We also looked at it, it was cool! But it doesn't have its own engine, does it?
21 February 2018 - 8:20
Helena says:
You can add an engine. However, if I understood correctly, the engine is not included in the basic package.

Ditte says:
Great idea! But since the bottom is flat, this variant is probably more suitable for small lakes and calmer waters. In high seas it is probably not really comfortable to travel in.

In high seas, no boat is comfortable to travel in 🙂.

Helena says:
I also see it in front of me in a calm lake ?

Nice idea for those who like the combination! 🙂
We are staying on land with the motorhome 🙂 .
Take care.......

Helena says:
We also make do with a motorhome, but what a great idea?

Nice to see the Japanese family. Father patting his son
on his head and grandpa is flirting with a lady in a...
meeting boatvan. Works well in Japan, where people are used to
in small spaces. 🙂
Practical? Hardly.

Helena says:
I think the seller said it was made in South Korea?

Ruth in Virginia says:
A non=politically-accepted answer
"They all look alike." 🙂
21 February 2018 - 18:48
Helena says:
So, it is not possible to see the difference between all nationalities 😉 But I remembered now afterwards that the seller told me about South Korea. I wonder how common it is to buy a caravan (or caravan boat) there ....!!?

Steve Ericsson says:
Solar panel and water-resistant speakers are included, but not the motor. Hmmm?
Are oars and paddles included instead?
21 February 2018 - 12:20
Helena says:
Yes, haha, you want an engine! However, I will not say for sure that you did not get a motor, but I do not think so.

Love this Boat Van! The Koreans have become really "sharp" with new solutions. The film was soooo cute:-)
Like Ruth, I also thought the Boat Van was Japanese. But then I googled this cute craft and saw that Sungwoo Boat Van in South Korea designed the caravan boat.

Helena says:
Just wondering how common it is to camp in South Korea...?

Almost like a SAABO of the 60's, but certainly much better. However, it does not look very stable.
21 February 2018 - 18:57
Helena says:
Now I had to google Saabo! It was cute, even if it had to stay on land 🙂 .

Haha, there are so many things I don't know about! Cool idea! But it must be a bit tricky to get it up and out of the water?

Delicious . Can serve as a guest room ? Fun information from the fair in general. Of course, liked the post about Plåtisar. Good work Helena and Peter.
