On Mondays we always present (except when we are travelling) travel news here at FREEDOMtravel. Today we can reveal which city has been named Europe's best destination and how many Swedes have had a romance on their sun holiday and tell you about ... goat yoga. Tomorrow we will continue to report from the Caravan Stockholm 2018 fair. We have lots more to tell you about - from new camping gadgets to a caravan that's also a boat.
Table of contents
Caravan Stockholm has ended for this year
The motorhome, caravan and camping fair Caravan Stockholm took place 15-18 February at Kistamässan in Stockholm. We gave lectures on both Friday and Saturday and stood in our stand all days. We have so far reported on new motorhomes and trends and on so-called ploughshares. We'll be back soon with more stories, including new and interesting camping gadgets.
Wroclaw Europe's best destination
With a total of 41,148 votes, Wroclaw has been selected as Europe's best destination in 2018, according to European Best Destinations. This beautiful city, sometimes referred to as the 'Venice of Poland', is surrounded by canals and 12o bridges between 12 islands. According to the motivation, you will be seduced by the squares, the beautiful buildings, the flower market and the botanical garden.
This is how many Swedes have had a romance on their sun holiday
In connection with Valentine's Day, the online travel agency eBeach.se conducted a survey on how much love flourishes on Swedish sun holidays. The results show that more than half have had romances during their holidays.
In addition, 61% say that their holiday romances lasted even when they returned home. People from Gävle and Stockholm are the most affectionate, with 41% of Gävle residents and 37% of Stockholmers having had romances while travelling.
Turkey is back as a holiday destination
In recent years, the number of travel bookings in Turkey has plummeted due to the country's political instability and unrest. Now the negative trend seems to be breaking and tourists are starting to find their way back, according to booking statistics from travel agency Ticket. The most popular holiday countries in 2018, with last year's ranking in brackets:
Getyoga is popular in Oregon
It is now possible to practice goat yoga at the world's first 'Goatel' in Oregon, USA, reports Travel Oregon c/o Atlantic Link. So, what in the world is "goat yoga"? The concept came about when the owner of the No Regrets farm in the Willamette Valley organised a charity event, and one of the participants wondered if she could hold a yoga class... among the goats.
The playful goats enjoyed playing around with the yoga participants and did not hesitate to jump on their backs. Now this activity has become so popular that a "Goatel" has been opened.
Now we're wondering: Have you perhaps experienced a romance on holiday? Or have you experienced something similar to goat yoga...?

Yes but holiday romance I have been m about a few times 😉 hope Turkey goes up! There are really so many luxury hotels there! Love the Turkish food. Hugs

I haven't actually been to Turkey, but Peter has been there for a few hours (stopover!) and actually managed to visit a luxury hotel 😉.

Johnny Friskilä says:
Holiday novels? Absolutely. Getyoga? Not yet, but it looks like fun. Then I guess the residents of Wroclaw have each received an ice cream from the municipality in exchange for voting in the competition. Sure, the city looks extremely beautiful in the picture, absolutely, but the motivation would fit almost any city in Europe..., and the world for that matter. Oh dear, how critical I am these days... 🙂 ðŸ™'

Helena says:
Haha, yes, you get a little critical and suspicious with time .., 😉 But the city still looks nice! 🙂 Getyoga we also have left ... 😉 😉

Getyoga - hahaha - only your imagination sets the limits. Unfortunately, Turkey as a travel destination for my part. Have no great experiences with Turkey despite several visits there.

Helena says:
Sad that you have bad experiences with Turkey. Haven't been there myself (and Peter's experience is limited to a few hours ;)).

Isn't it nice to have some sun and a pleasant climate sometimes?

Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
Never heard of Wroclaw, but if there is a motorhome trip to Poland next year, the city will probably be visited!
Getyoga, no thanks. Regular is so good!
I'm glad that I've been to Istanbul a couple of times and also on some sun holidays in Turkey, but right now it doesn't feel very appealing to go there.

Helena says:
We must also visit Wroclaw the next time we visit Poland. Have been a lot in Poland but not there.

Renate's travels says:
Haha, goat yoga actually! Maybe you should test that out. It becomes a little extra challenging if you have little goats standing on your back when you do the exercises. :p
19 February 2018 - 12:37
Helena says:
Haha, it's probably a bit harder to do the sun salutation with a goat on your back 😉.

Mr Frank Olsen says:
Wroclaw is definitely recommended. It was one of our destinations in Poland during our 8-month motorhome trip in 2016. We had heard that the city was supposed to be exceptionally beautiful, which it was. Here you can read what we thought of the city: https://janneogfrank.blogspot.no/2016/08/wroclaw-en-litt-ukjent-polsk-perle.html
When it comes to top travel destinations in Europe, it is probably, as among most Norwegians, still Greece (Greece) that applies 🙂 .

Helena says:
Glad you were in Wroclaw and that you also liked the city! Very beautiful houses in your pictures!

Emma, sun like sun? says:
I have heard about Wroclaw for many years, had clients there and colleagues who have been there can only agree: incredibly beautiful city and friendly people.
What do they mean by romance? Bringing love there or finding it on the spot?
Don't even know what to say about the last one .... nah-hääää .... not too me-häää ...
19 February 2018 - 13:41
Helena says:
Interesting that you heard so much about Wroclaw! I'm getting more and more curious to check out that city 🙂.

JoY says:
Getyoga, would have a very hard time keeping from laughing if a goat jumped up on me or other participants hahaha.
I have visited Turkey several times, I like the food, the sea and I have my friends there.
Where did you find the video with Kjell and the motorhome? Too bad we didn't have much time to talk at the fair.
Hugs

We missed Kjell at the fair, but saw him anyway 😉. https://youtu.be/o4sPgXSXdXM

Ditte says:
Glad that Wroclaw got a place on this list. I understand that it depends a lot on who conducts the surveys which cities come out on top. But smaller "upstarts" are favoured.
Turkey is out for me for various reasons. I have been there a few times before, both in Istanbul and in other places, but it does not attract me at all. However, I like the Turkish food.
The fact that Spain is at the top again this year is great, and there are many different destinations here, so the choice is wide.
It's also nice to see Greece in second place.
However, I read that France is generally the country that receives the most foreign tourists, but whether this is the case or not is another matter.
I'll leave the Getyogan out of it.

Helena says:
Well, you never know how these surveys are done ... But it's nice to see some unknown cities that you can be curious about 🙂.

Wroclaw, it was a surprise, but when I look at the colourful houses I start to understand why the city was chosen as number one.
No, no holiday romances for me, not that I can remember anyway;-)
The top 5 countries seem to be "constant". Funny about Turkey, because many places there are completely dependent on tourism. The Turks are so incredibly nice and friendly, they actually deserve to do well. It is not the fault of the "common man" that the government acts as it does.
