Now the rules on diesel cars are being tightened even more, and within a few years the government will allow Swedish municipalities to introduce environmental zones for passenger cars. Other news on the travel front is that excursions are more important than pool and that Royal Caribbean presents private island destinations. In addition, we can report on the most popular holiday destinations for Easter and this summer.

Green zones in Swedish cities
There are already environmental zones in some Swedish cities, but these only apply to heavy traffic. As of 1 January 2020, the government will allow Swedish municipalities to introduce environmental zones for passenger cars, which means that vehicles of older emission classes can be excluded. This according to the magazine Vi Bilägare.
There will be two types of environmental zones. The first zone will allow diesel cars that fulfil the requirements of Euro 5 and later, which means that cars sold before 2011 are not welcome. The second type of environmental zone allows only zero-emission cars.
Excursions are more important than pool
Swedish travellers think that the possibility to go on excursions is twice as important as access to a swimming pool on holiday. Good nightlife at the holiday destination and child-free accommodation are the least important, and the standard of the hotel and free Wi-Fi at the hotel also decrease in importance. This is according to Ticket's Sifo survey. Most important when Swedes choose a holiday destination/accommodation when travelling abroad in summer 2018:
- Opportunities for excursions (37 per cent)
- Accommodation near the beach (31 per cent)
- High standard accommodation (28 per cent)
- Centrally located accommodation (27%)
- Access to a swimming pool (20 per cent)
Royal Caribbean presents private island destinations
Royal Caribbean International reveals the first details of its new "Perfect Day Island Collection" concept, which will feature several private island destinations around the world. The first destination in the collection is "Perfect Day at CocoCay" in the Bahamas. Guests at CocoCay can have fun at Thrill Waterpark, with its zipline and water slides, or enjoy beautiful sandy beaches and tropical seas on one of the island's beaches.
Where Swedes are travelling this Easter
A few weeks ago we presented the most booked destinations for Easter according to Ticket, and the top list then consisted of Gran Canaria, Bangkok, Paris, London and New York. Now it is Norwegian's turn to present the most booked destinations for Easter and the list looks a little different. Most booked destinations for Easter according to Norwegian:
- London
- Malaga
- Alicante
- Barcelona
- Las Palmas
Split overtakes Mallorca
We have already reported on Croatia as "the winner of the summer". Now statistics from ticket show that the city of Split is the main attraction. "Interest in Croatia has been high for several years, but has now really exploded for the summer of 2018.
Split is both a cosy city and a perfect starting point for exploring Croatia's beautiful island world and the Macaranian Riviera further south," says Katarina Daniels, PR and Communications Manager at Ticket. This summer's most popular destinations:

Completely agree that both nightlife and child-free is something that plays less role even on our trips. But still can not help but admit that it is extremely nice and relaxing to stay in child-free accommodation / adult hotels. 🙂

Admitting my ignorance of the industry, do motorhomes run on petrol or diesel? Will that be a problem?
26 March 2018 - 6:15
Helena says:
Glad you asked Inga, maybe I should have written that. Motorhomes run on diesel, so any new rules on diesel cars could cause problems.

Glad that Split is coming back . It is a new destination. Was there already in the 70's but then Croatia was not fans.
And I understand that Alicante is popular.
Many motorhomes running on diesel may now be in trouble....
26 March 2018 - 14:41
Helena says:
Some destinations come and go 😉 Yes, it's tricky for motorhomes, there's no alternative to diesel. The newer engines are better than the older ones of course, but it's still diesel.
