Are you keen to travel at Easter? This year, Easter falls in the first week of April, and many people want to take the opportunity to experience spring abroad. Personally, it doesn't look like we'll be going anywhere over Easter, barring any unforeseen events, but here are some tips and inspiration for those looking for an Easter trip.

Travelling at Easter - sun and warmth
Are you looking for sun and warmth this Easter? The most booked destinations for Easter according to Ticket Privatresor are Gran Canaria and Bangkok, and Tenerife is also high on the list. Here are three suggestions from us:
1) Malta
We were in Malta in April last year, and the climate was really nice even though it was a bit too cold to swim. Malta is a fantastic island nation that offers everything from wonderful nature and good food to history and charming cities. Please read our travel tips about Malta.

2) Portugal
We visited the south of Portugal in January and even then you could sunbathe for a few hours in the afternoon. At the beginning of April you can definitely experience spring here, even though it might be too cold to swim. The Algarve coast offers incredibly beautiful beaches and cosy towns and villages. Read our travel tips about Portugal.

3. Canary Islands
Yes, it is, Canary Islands has its advantages during the cold season! It's not too far to fly, prices can be reasonable and the climate is good. We have been to Gran Canaria and I (Helena) have been to Tenerife, but that was before the time of the blog ...

Travelling in Easter - big city
Would you rather visit a big city this Easter? According to Ticket Privatresor, many Swedes have booked journeys to Paris, London and other cities, New York, Amsterdam and Prague. These may be excellent suggestions, but here are three more tips from us:
1st Rome
We visited Italy's capital, Rome, for the first time last September and were surprised by how incredibly charming this city is. Read about things to what to do in Rome, about smart tips for visit the Colosseum and if Vatican City.

2. Barcelona
You can never go wrong with spring in Barcelona! We were here in February once, and even then there was a bit of spring in the air even though it was cool. Barcelona is a lovely city with lively pedestrianised streets, great architecture and good food. Read more about Barcelona: 13 things to do in Barcelona.

3. Nice
The French city of Nice is well worth a visit! We were here in September last year, enjoying seaside walks, markets and delicious French food. Read more about Nice in France.

We usually meet spring in the Moselle Valley during Easter. It is usually quite warm and pleasant. There is usually a lot of hiking. This year it will be Bernkastel-Kues and Koblenz. Good luck with your plans.

As usual, we meet spring here at our beloved Getingstorp. Maybe there will be a first sitting in the greenhouse if the weather is favourable.

We're going to Beijing this week, but whether it's ours is a bit doubtful. But it will be good anyway. And a few weeks into April we'll be in Indonesia with our daughters and one of our grandchildren, and later in April Spain. But at Easter, when everyone else wants to go, we can be in our home region. We can go whenever we want and that is a great freedom in itself. It's good to be retired.

Strangely enough, we rarely travel for Easter. Probably because I usually have the children then. Instead, there is often a trip to the parents in Gävle. This year it will just be "being at home" for us though. Can also be nice.

We are travelling to Nepal around Easter, not because it is Easter because it is not celebrated here, but my husband and I have other things to celebrate.
Nepal may not be a place you go to celebrate, but it will be exciting. Have you been there?

We have a visit from Norway over Easter. It is important to take the opportunity to meet the family before we go on our long trip at the end of April. Has been a long break between our trips now, so it's not so little in the travel foot...

Maybe it's not so strange, but we take Greece for Easter. That is, the Greek Easter, which is a week later. So we celebrate Easter twice this year.
Boat trips in south-west Crete with stops in a couple of fishing villages along the way during our 11 days.

It has been a long time since I was in the Canary Islands, I have been there many times in prehistoric times. The first time was probably 1965 when I was with my family for three months in Tenerife. What is now Playa las Americas (I think it's called?) was then kind of a deserted beach ...
Have a great evening!

Åke Hammarbäck says:
Easter is synonymous with skiing for me since I was a child. My parents parked the caravan at the ski slope in the winters so many weekends and holidays we spent with winter camping and skiing, so it is natural to make a motorhome trip to ski resorts at Easter. This Easter it will be Moen wine camp in Hemsedal.
