Now we have real winter in Stockholm. Finally, I say! I know not everyone agrees with me, but I like it when there is a lot of snow and real winter. Everything is wrapped in thick white snow, traffic moves slowly, people pulse forward ... and for some reason become a little more chatty than usual. Everyone wants to talk about the weather!

Snowy walks to work
I understand that the winter weather can sometimes cause misery if you are dependent on the bus or train to work. In this kind of weather, I always feel privileged to be able to walk all the way from our houseboat in Pampas marina to my job.
If you've been following our blog for a while, you might know that Peter usually walks with me. We follow the model "there is no bad weather, only bad clothes". The last few days (when we have had around 12 degrees below zero) we have put on our ski trousers on the outside for the walk. When you are not cold, it is nice to walk!
Ducks and swans in congestion
Peter had an errand in the city yesterday, and among other things went past the Strömbron, which runs between Kungsträdgården and the Castle of Old Town. Here the water is flowing and does not freeze, and that is probably why it is so popular to hang out here if you are a duck or swan. It was really crowded in the water!
Winter in Stockholm with ice skates
There are more people than me who like winter and take advantage of the benefits of a real winter in the Stockholm. As usual, you can go ice skating in Kungsträdgården, and several people took the opportunity. And if you get cold, there are hot drinks in the Skating Café!
Virtual car journey through Italy
What about Peter's business in town? Well, he had a meeting with the Italian tourist office, which is currently housed in NK together with a small white Fiat500. Between 28 February and 4 March, you can get in the car and use VR glasses to travel around the Italian coastline. If you want, you can also compete for a stay in Italy by taking a happy photo on the spot and posting it on Instagram.
Do you like winter, or would you prefer to meet spring in Italy?
Across the board says:
Winter is not my thing, but a cup of steaming hot chocolate (preferably with a little splash of rum in it) topped with whipped cream is good on cold winter days 😉.

Helena says:
That cup doesn't sound wrong 😉

Wonderful that it was actually winter. I'm a bit jealous ??
01 March 2018 - 7:52
Helena says:
Yes, I kind of want a real winter before I can look forward to spring in earnest 🙂.

Johanna in Skåne says:
Nice with winter white! We went skiing downhill in Stöten last week and now there is a lot of snow in Skåne too? We meet spring in Italy at the end of April?
01 March 2018 - 7:59
Helena says:
Great with skiing! Italy doesn't sound bad either! Where are you going?
01 March 2018 - 12:30
Johanna in Skåne says:
We are flying to Bologna, but will mostly be based in Modena, where we have a friend?

Lovely description of Stockholm. Proper clothes, good humour and enjoy!
01 March 2018 - 8:03
Helena says:
Good clothes help to make the whole thing a pleasant experience 🙂.

Maya Nordlund says:
Glad you had a real winter in Stockholm! 😀 I myself am spoilt by always having plenty of snow every winter, but then there are also disadvantages such as -40 degrees... :/.
01 March 2018 - 8:25
Helena says:
Lovely with winter, but 40 minus feels a little unnecessarily cold I think ...! ?
01 March 2018 - 12:32
Petra says:
Agree with you Helena! I love the winter with lots of snow and minus degrees 😕.
01 March 2018 - 8:41
Helena says:
Isn't it wonderful? 🙂

Travel Linda says:
Nice with winter, but really think it came a few months too late this year.... Now you just long for the snow to disappear and it will be time to get the motorhome out of winter storage!
01 March 2018 - 8:55
Helena says:
Understand that you are keen to roll out the campervan! I find that winter comes later and later. You think it will come in December, but often it only comes in February ...

Ruth in Virginia says:
Yes, it seems that the seasons have shifted. When I was a child,
there was almost always snow at Christmas - remained until early March,
when the thaw began. With so much snow, which you received so late,
it may not be snow-free until April.
Agree that it is beautiful !!!
There has been a lack of snow here all winter - unusual.
01 March 2018 - 13:37
Ama de casa says:
I like the winter - now that I can go and visit it on my own terms and not have it move around half the year.
I also like the muffled sound that arises when the "world" is embedded in fluffy new snow 🙂.
01 March 2018 - 8:58
Helena says:
I like that muffled sound too! 🙂
01 March 2018 - 12:35
Solan says:
Lovely pictures and the right attitude towards winter in Stockholm. Going there soon for a quick visit. Then back to Spain. New route home with the motorhome via Milan. Can it get any better?
01 March 2018 - 9:02
Helena says:
Sounds like a good plan! 🙂

Elisabeth says:
Yes, dressing for the weather is a good measure. When it's snow that is allowed to remain, then I enjoy the winter, but not slush, which becomes ice and slippery. I am happy to give that up. So in answer to your question, I would love to meet spring in Italy.
01 March 2018 - 10:33
Helena says:
It has to be real winter for it to be nice! Slush is not nice at all ...!
01 March 2018 - 12:36
Annar Aas says:
Prefer spring and summer nowadays, but when the kids were small, snow, ice and winter were OK!
01 March 2018 - 11:31

When you're a kid, snow is extra fun... ⛄️

Wow it looks very cold (12 minus is 36 minus too much?) We are working on the site right now and the move took place yesterday. So it may take 24 hours before the linking is fixed. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
01 March 2018 - 11:54
Helena says:
Haha, that's how you can see it! 😉 Ok, understand! It was a coincidence that I happened to see it just now, I was going through broken links on our page 😉.

Long live real winter! I do not know if I have experienced Östersund as wintery as this year, absolutely fantastic!
01 March 2018 - 12:39
Helena says:
Lovely! You definitely have real winter! ??
01 March 2018 - 14:38
Maggan and Ingemar says:
Agree with you about winter, I prefer the snow to the blahs. When the children lived at home we spent at least a week in the mountains skiing, I can miss that sometimes. I've also enjoyed shovelling snow, but my body has started to go on strike more and more. Therefore, in a week, we go on a trip again, both to avoid the snow shovelling and the spring blast and come home with spring instead. 😀
01 March 2018 - 14:23
Helena says:
Great that you have a journey ahead of you!!!! 🙂

åsa in åsele says:
Have you seen my latest winter pictures, either on Instagram or in the blog? As you know, I'm an inveterate northerner and absolutely love our fifth season, which is happening now 🙂.
I am equally surprised every year that 08a country is virtually paralysed when a few cm of snow arrives.
We have had about (just over) minus 30 last day during the night/morning, but in the morning only minus 15 so it has been fresh and lovely.
01 March 2018 - 16:25
Helena says:
I have understood that the spring winter is lovely and would probably love the winter weather up north! (And realise that our 12 degrees below zero is not much to come by ;)) However, I don't think Stockholm is particularly paralysed 😉 For our part, everything has worked as usual.

Matts Torebring says:
Isn't it wonderful that winter is back to normal? Fantastic that we have a real winter. The kind we've been waiting for after all the green winters. I wouldn't trade it for the warmth of the south.
01 March 2018 - 19:21
Helena says:
Great that you agree! It's supposed to be winter in winter! 🙂

BP says:
You are really privileged to be able to walk to work. There were no buses or the Roslagsbanan yesterday, so I had to cancel a lunch date in town. I strongly dislike the cold, especially since it came so late this year. It was warm and cosy all winter. Feels kind of wrong.
So in answer to your question - I prefer to meet spring in Italy. Although it has been snowing in Rome so...
01 March 2018 - 20:55
åsa in åsele says:
Here's proof that Stockholm gets paralysed during a snowstorm 😉.
When I have visited Stockholm during the winter and there has been snow, there have been poorly ploughed streets, traffic jams and accidents.
I remember when we drove north from Uppsala and ended up in a traffic jam... about 30 cars in a convoy as the E4 was not ploughed.

Lena - good for the soul says:
Totally agree with you! Lovely with real winter! And yes, just get dressed and it works and is even lovely to be outside.
