Crocopark is a crocodile park in Agadir with over 300 live crocodiles, as well as turtles, lizards and plenty of exotic plants. Truth be told, we were a little hesitant when we headed to the crocodile park in Agadir, Morocco. What were we going to see? But we were pleasantly surprised by a nice park with beautiful nature, and many crocodiles moving freely in a large area.

Over 300 crocodiles
Crocodile park in Agadir: There are 325 crocodiles of the Nile crocodile species. This is the second largest crocodile in the world after the saltwater crocodile. Males usually weigh around 500 kg and are 3.5 to 5 metres long, but can sometimes weigh up to a tonne and be 7 metres long. These are real giants!
The Nile crocodile lives in much of Africa, but has been extinct in Morocco since the 1970s due to hunting and drought. At Crocopark you can see them moving around in a large area, and you can also learn more about crocodiles, such as peering into the 'nursery' where the eggs hatch.
Crocodile feeding time is lively
Looking after 300 crocodiles obviously requires a lot of food, and when it was time to feed them, the staff threw out large pieces of raw chicken. Then the gigantic animals suddenly got busy!
Turtles, lizards and frogs
In addition to crocodiles, the park is home to turtles, lizards and frogs. The turtles emerge from small caves and the lizards can be seen scurrying between the rocks in the park. The frogs live in a large pond with aquatic plants. They are not easy to see, as they are just as green as the surrounding leaves, but after a while you can spot them.
Exotic plants from around the world
The park also has several gardens with exotic plants. Here you can see cacti, bamboo, bougainvillea, rubber trees, papyrus, fig trees, papaya and a lot of other trees and bushes that I can't remember the name of. The guide shared a leaf from the aloe vera plant, so we could feel the jelly-like content.
Crocodile park in Agadir
There are a lot of activities in the park, especially for children. There are playgrounds, for example, and opportunities to make henna tattoos or take part in workshops. At one point in the park, staff demonstrated how to make 'paper' from the papyrus plant. In another, you can guess which animals are associated with different footprints. It was probably an activity for children, but it worked just as well for our group of adults...

We also tend to be a bit sceptical about zoos in general.
I'm glad you were pleasantly surprised.

Well, that park didn't open until 2015, so it wasn't there when we were there in 2012 I think it was. Love land turtles and lizards. Significantly nicer and calmer than crocodiles;-)

Helena says:
Yes, the park is relatively new so that may be true! And I agree that turtles and lizards are nice animals 🙂 .

We were in Agadir many years ago. Remember the nice beach, the souks (?) the food, a trip to Marakech and out to a Berber village where we ate and danced with the inhabitants. Everything was very interesting and successful. The only hard part was that we had to watch out for all the curious guys who wanted to get acquainted with our teenage daughter. Nice to follow you and see how much has changed.

Zoos are not my thing, but it's nice to see an example where the animals seem to be doing well.

Of course, it's hard to judge sometimes, but our gut feeling was good as we walked around this park! Nice and well maintained and with large areas for the crocodiles and other animals.

Really cool animals. Feels like they're straight out of prehistory.
I tried to read your blog from Morrisons on wifi (big supermarket in England) but it was blocked, so strange!

Yes, they do feel a bit like dinosaurs! But oh, how strange that you didn't come to our blog? No, I do not know at all what it is due to ... Thank you for telling us!
