The first charter trips to North Korea will begin this summer, according to one of the major tour operators in Sweden. It will not be the kind of round trips that have been organised on a small scale before, but now the focus is on sun, bathing and entertainment. The trips are aimed at both families with children and adults without children.

Sun and sea in North Korea
With its long coastline facing the sea, North Korea has long been eyed by tour operators as a potential charter destination. An agreement has now been reached with the country, opening the door to large-scale charters. Due to the country's geographical location, it is primarily in the summer that charter tourists are now welcomed, when the temperature is a lovely 25-30 degrees.
Exciting excursions
In addition to sun and beaches, North Korea offers many exciting excursions, according to the press release. Several bus excursions will be offered where you are driven around to well-chosen places, in the safe company of North Korean guards. These include impressive statues and beautifully choreographed performances.
No internet
Foreign mobile phones do not work in the country and you cannot connect to the internet. In other words, you can't hang out on Facebook or upload photos to Instagram. However, the charter company does not see this as a problem.
"Many Swedes are addicted to their mobile phones and will experience real relaxation when they can finally let go of them for a week," said a representative of the company in a press release.
UD advises against
Since 7 September 2017, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised against non-essential travel to North Korea, but according to the charter company, this is not a problem for the planned charter boom. The charter tourists will be in restricted tourist areas at the beaches and can therefore feel completely safe, they say.
