Beautiful Ibiza has grown up. The party island that all young people travelled to in the 60s and 70s has for several years taken steps to take advantage of all the beauty that the island offers. I (Peter) was at a morning meeting with the tourist office from Ibiza in Stockholm, and I got a new destination that I want to experience in the future. There is so much to see and experience around Europe and here is a bit about the island of Ibiza, along with photos from the tourist office.
Table of contents
Jetset life
Of course, there is still a party on the island and it is one of the best party islands in Europe. Here, hot DJs are lined up and they have developed the discos of the past into pure jet-set party clubs with people from all over the world. Here, LGBTQ people also feel they can be themselves without being trampled on. The most famous venues are Pacha, Space, Amnesia, Privelege and Zenith el Divino, we were told.
Development
When Ibiza has a reputation for being a beautiful island, you have to promote it. They've worked hard to find out more about Ibiza and it couldn't be that hard. The island has crystal clear waters, a unique marine eco-climate, historic buildings, ancient culture and fantastic arable land.
Possidonia is the coast and place that is still an unspoilt dream, and fortunately is now a nature reserve. It feels cinematic when you see the images from the seabed, and I want to dive here!
Beautiful Ibiza
The city of Ibiza was designated a UNESCO Heritage Site in 1999 for having the best preserved coastal fortress in the Mediterranean. The old town, Dalt Vila, includes a castle and a cathedral, and at Sa Caleta there are historic remains of the Phoenicians.
Of the 56 beaches, two of them are for parties in San Antonio, and the rest are for those who want to see the best of Ibiza. On the island you can also experience Agroturismo with local food, far away from the party scene. Rent a bike and enjoy the surroundings or go to a spa and just relax. Beautiful Ibiza that we must visit!
Have you been to Ibiza?
Many people have been there and if you have visited the island, please let us know!

I'm a bit keen on the neighbouring island of Formentera actually. Quiet and beautiful!

Peter says:
Thanks for the tip. It will be to see both islands with a wonderful boat trip as well.

Ama de casa says:
I have almost been there. Haha! Thought to take the "Finnish ferry" over there from Dénia, but it turned out to be so damn expensive (even without a car) so we got completely off us. Would have been cheaper to fly... But then the air had kind of gone out.
(I thought it would be about the same price as going to Åland/Åbo...)
Haven't checked for years, maybe it's cheaper now?
12 April 2018 - 9:31
Peter says:
Wow! I will have to check that out but I think it is very expensive and they also have a tourist tax on the island. When they don't say anything about prices at the meeting, you never know. Weird.

Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
Ibiza? I have never touched the idea of going there. There are many islands to the south that are much more appealing, such as Malta, Sardinia and Sicily (but who knows???).
12 April 2018 - 18:32
Peter says:
Don't forget Corsica if you're going further south. It's interesting because I thought a lot of people had been there.

Ann-Louise says:
Have been keen to go there several times, although the rest of the family has unfortunately not been as keen. But of course it looks very beautiful!
12 April 2018 - 18:58
Peter says:
None of you who write have been there. I thought I would get tips and advice.
13 April 2018 - 7:39
Petra says:
I have never been there but it looks really nice 🙂.
12 April 2018 - 21:19
Peter says:
Thank you Petra for writing and my wondering why nobody goes there?
13 April 2018 - 7:40
BP says:
Never been to Ibiza either, but my sister-in-law went there many times in the 1980s and partied. Has about the same "experience" as Ama. We also wanted to take the "Finland ferry" from Dénia, but it only runs in high season. Never checked the prices.
12 April 2018 - 21:27
Peter says:
Hey, BP! I thought one of you had put your paw in there. I'll have to keep looking.
13 April 2018 - 7:42
None says:
Was there in 1998 - the summer Ibiza reopened, magical. Love the proximity to Africa. Moroccan influences when they sing flamenco in Arabic. The nature of Formentera is crazy, it's paradise.
12 April 2018 - 21:54
Peter says:
Thanks Inga for the information and now I want to go even more.

Ditte says:
Ibiza was, as you say, very popular in the 60s and 70s and I was there several times. An island well worth visiting. Some of the party atmosphere has disappeared and both diving and snorkelling are very good. Today it is a little more exclusive and the price level is higher than on the mainland. This year we plan to take the ferry from Denia on the Spanish mainland, but there are also flights from Alicante.
I'm glad you're promoting Ibiza.
I can also highly recommend the beautiful islands of Menorca and Formentera. At least that's where I was in the 2000s.
12 April 2018 - 22:21
Peter says:
Haha, you can trust Ditte! If you want information about a destination, you listen to Ditte, haha. If I open a radio station, it will be called "Hör med Ditte". Thanks for the input and we'll get there one way or another.

Was in Ibiza in 1973....a while ago.
Travelled there by boat from Mallorca.
Ibiza town I remember as very beautiful.
Remember, I don't have a photo from there!
It was not photographed in the same way in those days.

Ryanair started flying there in 2011. Then I took the opportunity to go there for SEK 500 in April with my daughter who turned 20. We had absolutely fantastic days with wonderful spring weather. Ibiza town where we stayed was absolutely wonderful to walk around with narrow alleys and cosy little squares. A lovely beach was just outside which we walked to. One day we took the bus to an old hippy market and walked around and enjoyed it. Then Ryan stopped flying there wondering why. Would love to go there again
