As usual, Mondays mean travel news here at FREEDOMtravel. Today we can tell you about the world's largest underwater restaurant, which is being built in Norway. We can also tell you which destinations are most popular for sun and beach holidays and for the new trendy way of travelling, namely 'mini breaks'.

High demand for sun and beach holidays
The late and cold spring has created great demand for sun and bathing holidays this summer. Bookings to sun and bathing destinations are up 5 per cent compared to already record high levels last year, according to booking statistics from Ticket. Here you can see the five most booked charter destinations this summer:
Swedes choose 'mini breaks'
The new trend of "mini breaks" is on the rise, according to Resia. "Mini breaks" refers to trips of 4-5 days, not necessarily in conjunction with a weekend. A survey conducted by SIFO on behalf of Resia showed that Swedes would rather go on several short trips than a few long ones. Here are the most popular destinations for a mini break, according to Resia (click on the links to read more about our destinations):
Direct flights from Växjö to Amsterdam
If you live close to Växjö you can soon fly directly to Amsterdam. KLM is launching a new route from Växjö to the Dutch capital, with daily departures from 14 May.
Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi focuses on training.
Last summer was the first time the Icehotel was able to offer its guests an overnight stay among snow and ice art in the middle of summer. Now you can also spend a weekend of exercise and health, coached by Pilates Complete. The package organised in July includes Pilates and Garuda yoga sessions, rafting in the Torne River, wilderness supper, ice sculpting, sauna and a refreshing swim in the Torne River.
World's largest underwater restaurant to open in Norway
The underwater restaurant 'Under' has started construction and is expected to open in spring 2019 in Sprangereid in southern Norway. Approximately six metres below the surface, the restaurant will feature a large glass wall with a view of life below the surface. The restaurant will have 100 seats and serve local delicacies such as seafood, seabirds and wild lamb. Reservations opened on 1 February, so you can book a table now.

A fitness and health trip to the ice hotel! I can hardly imagine anything better. As you know, I like to move and the ice hotel is so magically beautiful!

The idea of mini breaks is something we discuss a lot. I think it's perfect for cities in Europe. However, I think it's a lot of travelling for a short stay and relaxation to e.g. Mallorca, Malta etc even though I understand that it has become popular.
The ice hotel, with its exhibition rooms, we have only visited in the summer. It's nice that you can now use it as a hotel in the summer as well.
By the way, I can hardly believe it's Monday again....
Have a good week!

Helena says:
I agree that big cities are great for mini breaks. I think that Valletta can also work, but on the other hand there is more to see in Malta that you might miss if you are not there anymore.

The ice hotel is awesome, every Swede should go there to experience the magic, of course it is most powerful in winter... but yes it is an experience.

Isn't it true that we Swedes are travelling more and more? And I am no exception? This summer it will be Rhodes, where we have not been before! We hope for sun and bath and some training.
We also like shorter trips. Got curious about that restaurant in Norway.
In May it's time for the ESC, so I'm going to Lisbon!
But tomorrow we are going to the most amazing city in my heart : New York!

Minibreaks are my favourite and we have recently come back from one in London. Long time since I was there so it was time. And that Indon is popular is clearly noticeable and that despite the fact that the pound for us Swedes is rather "expensive". And London is generally an expensive city but so is Paris.
The ice hotel is awesome and so even without training. Have tried one night here and it is memorable.
I would love to visit the Norwegian restaurant.

BP says:
I definitely believe in mini breaks, which we have done quite often actually. The underwater restaurant is cool, but I would probably get claustrophobic there. Heights are okay for me, but being surrounded by water at that depth - no;-)
